{For Guadalupe; and anybody else who would like to join.}
\\it's the way that he makes you cry// \\it's the way that he's in your mind//
From what she knew, most wolves cherished that subliminal bliss of being alone. But it had gone on for far too long. The life of Ravine Arnou had become a rolling tape of step, step, smell the flowers, move on. It never stopped, but it did continue. And now, she had come to a halt between the scents of the scrubby wildflowers that she crushed beneath her delicate paws.
She raised her muzzle to the spring skies above her. How beautiful, how incandescently blue they shone! They reminded her so desperately of Daemon’s eyes. They were identical in color. She sighed heavily. Very much had she dwelled upon the loss of her brother, of Blizzard, the dark-eyed white wolf, and Lucas, the tan, amber-eyed male. They were all that she had ever had. Well, they and Rhapsody, of course. Rhapsody had felt like a protective father figure, as her own father, Lucas, had been. A heavy sigh escaped her delicate muzzle, and her amber eyes closed slowly. Her life was so very, very confused.
With a heavy heart, the female rose back to her paws. To walk again, it appeared to be her calling. No matter how much her heart ached for those lost to her, the sun would set again in the evening, and it would rise once more at tomorrow’s dawn. So, life would always go on, even if it seemed not for her.
Against her chest, Render’s pearl sat, stone-cold and dull as a rock. When Ravine had been with her family, and even when she had been with Rhapsody, it had been warm and it had glowed in a wide spectrum of pastel colors. Though its powers had been useless, it had still been something pretty to gaze upon. But now, it was as if she wore a piece of gravel about her neck. There was no pride in such an item, and perhaps this thought is what caused the young female’s next rash action.
Grinding her right front paw into a fist-like formation, she twisted it to her neck and tugged the thing roughly away from her body, snapping the thin black cord and thrusting it away into the scrubby weed. Almost immediately, the pearl glowed a bright, vivid red. It was unhappy being on her neck, certainly, but it was unhappier being abandoned. Any wolf within twenty feet of it could see the bright, shimmery glow of the pearl. Ravine moved several wolf lengths from it, and sat down glumly atop a small rock, just outside the glow of it. A tear slid silently down her cheek. Today, she appeared to be most unlike herself.
She personally did not want to go back, to retrieve the gift from her mother. But she also did not want to abandon it there.
With a sigh, Ravine remained motionless.
\\and that's what you get for falling again// \\you can never get him out of your head//

A dark figure padded through the bushes. Some glowing red light had caught his eye and he moved toward it. Upon reaching it, he found it was a pearl. He held it in his paw, looking at it as he held it with questioning and lust. He always loved having new items to call his own and this glowing pearl seemed to have some sort of power to it. He thought secondly, wondering if Mira would like it. It was, after all, a beautiful gift to give someone. Perhaps he should give it to her.
He thought secondly... what if there was something wrong with it? Or something that could harm his beloved mate? Perhaps he should hold onto it himself and figure out how it works or what it is before making any serious decisions.
That was when the femora caught his eye... again. He had been padding along, just going for a walk, when she had caught his attention. He had seen her throw the pearl to the side, so, being the wolf that he is, he padded right up and decided to look at it and possibly claim it for his own.
He flicked his tails as he looked it over, turning it over in his paws. He sat doing this for several minutes.
His glowing golden eyes, no pupils to be found, seemed to burn brightly in the light as he looked the stone over.

Finally, after so many moments of hopeless moping, Ravine turned about and slid lightly off of the rock, ready to retrieve the pearl.
She froze, staring blankly at the wolf that held it.
"Who are you?" she called, voice trembling slightly. She was not frightened by the wolf itself, but rather, of how it held her beautiful pearl. "That is my mother's pearl that you hold, and if you're thinking of keeping it yourself - " she began to add, seeing the way that his strange eyes beheld it - "it's a useless keepsake. All it does is light up and blink from time to time, and usually, it won't even do that." Her voice was filled with honesty, for Ravine had never seen the pearl do anything other than these maneuvers. She moved closer, against her will, and stretched out a paw to take it back. As she did so, the blinking red light vanished, and the pearl sat in the other wolf's paw, a motionless, gray stone.
"You see? Please sir," she said, softly, amber eyes imploring, "please give me back my pearl. It is the only thing I have to remember my mother by."

The large brute, standing twice the size of your largest average wolf, turned his glowing eyes to face her. No pupils were to be found within them.. just his glowing golden orbs. The large, flame tipped wings were folded at his sides and his large flamed paws rested upon the ground... well, all but the one that held the pearl.
"You threw it, meaning it would be up for grabs, no? Why would you throw something if it meant so much to you? I know of some others who would treat this with much more respect than that which you have shown to it. My Mira would absolutely love it."[/b] He grinned, showing his pearly white canines, which contrasted greatly with his black fur.
"Why should I return it? If it truly meant that much to you, then you wouldn't have thrown it in the first place. How am I to know you won't treat it like this again? I mean, why give it back to such an irresponsible owner when I know someone who would treasure it and keep it save and treat it with respect?"[/b] Lucid looked at her with another grin.

Ravine ruffled her fur indignantly.
"I have been told," she said quietly, "that whomever takes the pearl, who is not the rightful owner, will feel pain against their chest when they don it. This seems to be its only power.. and for your darling Mira, I am quite certain it would burn a hole straight through her heart. See how ugly it is now?" she added, gesturing to the pearl's dull, gray, cold, and rock-like state. She paused, looking down with guilt, considering his questions now.
"I always treat the pearl with respect," she said, guilt flooding her body. "Except for this one time.. I was infuriated, you see, with my mother - my family - their memory, and how the pearl is no longer happy to be with me." She sighed. "It was, once." She looked with her amber eyes into his, and found herself rather alarmed by the sight of simple golden spheres. No pupil scarred their color. "I implore you, sir. Return my heirloom to me."

Lucid looked at her and flicked his tails again. He sat calmly, his wings folded against his sides. He pondered her statements. What a foolish female... spilling out her life story to a complete stranger. Lucid thought as he looked at her, continuing to turn the pearl around in his paw.
"It doesn't seem as if you're very respectful to it. How am I to know that you will continue to treat it with respect, even if this is your first time throwing it? Who's to say that you won't get angry or whatever you called it and throw it again? You can't be so sure of yourself after this time. Who's to say these things won't happen again?"[/b] Lucid looked at her and grinned once more.
"Oh, and don't you DARE mock or take Mira in vain or make any sort of rude or mean comment about her in any way, or I will be forced to introduce you to a most painful and excruciating death, understand?"[/b] He looked directly into her eyes to prove his threat to be true. He stood slowly and flicked his tails.
"I might suggest you join a pack soon... it's dangerous for loners around here."[/b] He laughed a deep, booming laugh and began to slowly walk away.

The sun was steadily in the sky, glowing brightly as to light up the world as it did every day, the ever so happy-go-lucky Guadalupe was boredly pacing around. It was one of those days where boredom took over and he found himself aimlessly wandering around. He didn't do it often, no, he did it quite frequently. His fluffy light wings messily placed at his sides with little care other than to avoid dragging them shook for a moment, and his ears turned to the ready, catching a sound.
And then another. And then talking. Curious as ever, the light sky blue wolf decided that he needed something to do today. So, in a daring fashion, he moved his swift paws toward the sound. He didn't pause to scent the air to figure out what he was facing, no, he would go by what he saw today, he thought.
As if he knew both wolves, he trampled in on their conversation, which seemed to be taking a turn for the worse. A grin placed on his face tightly so his tongue wouldn't roll out like it would try to, and his tail wagging, he inspected both wolves without a word.
The first wolf to catch his eye would be the she-wolf, who although she was indeed smaller than the more frightening male, seemed so much more interesting to him. He took in her details, the fanning of her tail and the sweetness of her amber eyes that seemed to be burning from a strong emotion sparked by the other wolf, even the oddity of red specks across her pelt here and there.
And then, he turned his head to the other one. He was amazingly large, but perhaps it was just Guadalupe that was small, but also a deep coal black. His grin seemed to lose its power, as he realized the wolf was a bit more intimating then he though from his a glance. He had large wings which matched his flame struck paws and tail. His grin grew back once he realized he wasn't smiling as hard anymore.
"Hey there!" He said in a chirpy, happy tone. His eyes which were a bright yellow now, seemed to sparkle and reflect the flames of the other wolf. He certainly didn't look scared- but he did come off as foolish.
His eyes turned to the pearl, and he tilted his head to the side. He didn't often see such treasures, and it seemed as if the two wolves were arguing over it. Apparently, it belonged to the beautiful female, but someone it got into the other's paws. He frowned for only a moment, and then grinned at them both.
"It's a great day, isn't? I love these sort of days, don't you?" He paused, and narrowed his eyes in a playful sort of manner. "What's with all the bickering?"

In mild alarm, the young female glanced at the newcomer. Tears welled up in her eyes as she turned to glare at the departing wolf. With new comfort taken in this seemingly honest and friendly male, she cried, "That wolf stole my mother's pearl!" Her ears flattened to her skull and her head lowered. She began to lope swiftly after the male with the pupilless eyes, glancing back in the hope that the new wolf would follow. Group numbers were always comforting in the midst of a confrontation, especially against a wolf of such incredible size. Although, perhaps the new male would take up for the other.. maybe they were acquaintances, and fond ones! Her heart nearly stopped beating.
"Give back my pearl!" demanded Ravine, voice shaking, as she had nearly caught up to the evil male. Her heart ached with the loss of it already, and the guilt of having thrown it aside seemed to be eating at her inside.
Just as she called these words, the pearl flashed a bright orange, and was suddenly engulfed in flames that twisted and licked at the paw and forearm of the brutish wolf that held it. Amazed at this sudden show of power, Ravine stopped in her steps, staring at the small, typically useless rock with incredulity.
What a time for it to finally display some show of use! Or.. was this simply the curse that took place when one who did not own it held it for too long?

Lucid paused as the female spoke to the newcoming male. He slowly turned to face her and chuckled deeply.
"Oh, my dear... If you're going to tattle on someone, you must tell them the whole story. No little white lies or half truths."[/b] Lucid turned to the brute and grinned. "She threw this pearl and left it for grabs. I just happened to see her throw it to the side... when she didn't run to pick it up right away, I assumed she didn't want it. Now, it will make a fine necklace for my dear Mira."[/b] He laughed.
That was when the pearl caught fire. The flames licked his paws, though didn't burn him.
"Well, isn't that interesting. A pearl that catches fire."[/b] Lucid turned the pearl over in his paw a few more times, watching the flames. The brightness of the flames compared nothing to the brightness that radiated from his eyes. He looked at it for a few moments more before he turned back to Ravine and the newcomer.
"I picked up this pearl fair and square... and she accuses me of stealing it? How moral is that? What I've told you is the truth. If she had cared for this pearl so much, then she wouldn't have thrown it into the grass for someone else to find and pick up, which is what I did. There's no wrong doing here, now is there? I was perfectly within my rights to pick it up. I'm no thief and I am insulted that you would accuse me of such acts."[/b] He paused before he continued. "Are yo usure you want to mix around with a lying female? One that doesn't tell full truths? Doesn't tell you the whole story? Who's to say she won't lie some more... Oh, excuse me, not lie... just be deceitful to get what she wants and to get her way. I have done nothing wrong and she accuses me of stealing."[/b] Lucid's posture and words all seemed true, for he was showing no hints of lying in any way, shape or form.
"I'll warn you the same thing that I warned her... it's dangerous for loners around here. You'd best join a pack... one that is secure... and make strong bonds there. If you want to know the best pack to join, join the pack that resides in the mountains... we're by far the largest pack and the best. I am the Alpha there."[/b] He looked to the brute and waited for both him and the femora to reply.
He flicked his tails as he held no emotion within his face and stood staring down at the two of them.

He had followed the she-wolf excitedly at first, deciding that he could easily make them forget all their bickering... But once that pearl caught flame, his heart skipped a beat and terror filled his veins. Every muscle in his body tensed, and his ears swirled away, and he looked as if he was ready to bolt away... A whimper escaped his muzzle when the large obsidian wolf(who, he noted, seemed like he wasn't affected by the flames) and the pretty female turned back to him.
The flicker of worry became heavily apparent in the newcomer's eyes, his bright shining yellow orbs becoming dulled and clouded with thought and emotion. He nervously allowed a smile to reform across his face, for he would hate to show weakness though he was sure both of them caught the look.
"Well. We could... Just... Uh." He paused, and then wagged his tail happily. "How about we all just... Uh. Its just a silly pearl!" He tried to act like it was of no importance when it clearly was. "Why would your... Mira... Uhm. Want something like that? It obviously has no value!"
... Alright, he was one of the worst liars ever. Still, he tried, right?
"So. Why don't we just, uh, forget the silly pearl?" He paused for a moment, attempting to forget the warning the stranger wolf presented... He had his reasons for avoiding packs. He shuddered softly. "Its too nice a day to be bothered by such a silly thing."

Ravine fell back, the size of the male frightening her, and his words scarring her heart. She hadn't been malicious when she had thrown the pearl, merely frustrated. But the new wolf clearly didn't want to help her, and she was too frightened of the rude, mean male's size to take him on herself. Heart burning in shame and injured pride, she lowered her head sorrowfully.
Due to such an action, she failed to see as the pearl blasted a great safeguard of shining white and marblized pink from its center, flying from the wolf's paw and disappearing in midair. She looked up just in time to see it vanish, and a small gasp escaped her muzzle. The pearl! Where.. where had it gone? Panic overtook her being. What if he attacked her, demanding for it back? She edged backwards, looking fearfully to the blue male.
What would happen, now?

Lucid watched her back away from him. Aww, just like a scared little puppy. He chuckled to himself at the gesture, making it known he was amused at her actions. He looked to the brute who had seemingly wanted to make things right between the two and flicked his tails. His glowing golden eyes bore into him as he was about to speak.
That was when the pearl did something... strange. It flew from his paw and disappeared. Lucid pondered for a moment before turning to the femora.
"So what happened to it? I guess neither one of us can have it."[/b] Lucid laughed a deep, booming laugh and turned to the brute.
"I stand by what I warned before. These lands are unsafe for loners to wander... well... alone. You never know when you will need someone to back you up.. a strong pack with a strong leader is a family, whether or not you want to believe it or not. Around here, a loner could get into dangerous situations that even current pack-wolves face. Beasts and creatures wander these lands.... creatures and beasts with nothing but a thirst for death and blood in their mouths. Heed this warning, for I have seen this beast. Earth dies where it treads."[/b] He flicked his tails before turning away from the loners. He slowly padded away, not leaving just yet, but giving them the opportunity to request to join his pack or even to question him or whatever. He was in no hurry and he quite enjoyed frightening these loners.

It... The pearl! It just disappeared! That was wickedly wierd... Guadalupe had never, ever seen anything that could do that before.. He stared blankly at the space where the pearl had been for so long he seemed to ignore the larger, terrifying wolf.
He frowned darkly at the now slowly walking away wolf, and defiantly trotted after him, and then around him, and then turned and stood clearly in front of him. Was he threatening them, in a sense, telling them that if they didn't join a pack this thing would kill them? He certainly didn't want to die, but he couldn't... His bright eyes glowered darkly into the glowing golden ones of the larger male.
"I'm not a pack wolf," he stated sharply, flicking his ear. There was a hint of regret in his eyes. "I can never be in a pack, you must excuse me if I don't take up on your offer..." The statement was odd, and the tone in his voice had changed dramatically compared to his old, carefree voice. It was darker, more serious... And yet, boldly torn- as if he wanted to be in this large, powerful wolves pack. Like he would have enjoyed being in a a pack... In-fact, it seemed reflective, like he missed being in a pack of his own.
He couldn't explain it clearly enough without sharing what he refused to share with these new wolves. If things had been different, he might have taken up on that offer, but for now he couldn't bear to live with a pack. He could wander with another wolf- he was curious if the other wolf, the female, might like that idea- in a small group of two, but a pack would be too much like his past home, and he wasn't about to repeat the past... Truth be told, the thought of being in a pack scared young Guadalupe...

Ravine took a step after the blue male, not wanting to be left alone, and fearful that he intended to join the enormous brute's pack. She almost cried out "Don't go!", her delicate face arranged in a fearful pout.
But then, upon hearing the male's words, her heart seemed to calm. He.. what did his words mean? Couldn't be in a pack, period? Why not? She loped quickly to stand nearer the blue male, fearful for his safety after speaking like this to the monster that had caused her pearl to disappear. As she stood a few paces back from the smaller rogue, her mind turned to the disappearance of her only possession. It had never worked before, the Love Pearl. Not for Ravine, anyways. It had always just appeared normal and plain, with no real attribute to call its own, but the way it had deserted the brute in such a manner... what in the world had caused that?
She found her amber eyes wandering to the blue male. The pearl had only become active when he had arrived on the scene.. surely, that didn't mean anything, did it?

Lucid drew himself to his full, menacing height. He glared down a the brute, daring him to try to stop him from moving forward again.
"Oh, it's not me that I'm warning you of, though you would be wise to not cross paths with me again if this is your attitude. No, there is a beast much more dangerous out there that shows mercy to no one. No lone wolf stands a chance against it... let alone a small pup like yourself. But, hey, it's your choice. Now if you don't mind, you're wasting my time. Leave me be. Go away. And if you so dare to tread my lands without the theory of joining my pack... I'll kill you on the spot and you won't have to worry about that big bad monster anymore.... if you live to even be able to get to my lands." Lucid flicked his tails and preceded to pad around the brute.
"Good day to you both. If you should so seek council with me, come to the Mountains... though I can't make any guarentees you will be one hundred percent safe." Lucid sneered as he padded onward, almost to the edge of the plains on the trek to his terra.
