Sneaking out of the cave with Weylyn wasn't the easiest thing to come by. That wolf was stealthy. It wasn't like Karin wanted to just sneak out though. She wanted to go roam and explore and just have fun. Weylyn of course was a fun brute, but he had other resonsibilities to come by. And Karin was close enough to be out on her own (she just doesn't want to be).
Being as stealthy as possible, Karin tip toed her way toward the open mouth of the den. The sun shone threw brightly, and yet, with her bright blue eyes, she could see Weylyn still seemingly asleep. She held her breath and as quietly as ever, snuck forward. When hunting, yes, she was sneaky and pretty good at it.... but when she just wanted to go out because she could... she was the biggest clutz out there. With as much grace as a giraffe trying to walk on a bunch of marbles, Karin tripped over a few rocks and smacked right into the side of the cave. A high pitched, quick yelp escaped her maw as her head collided with the stone. So much for being sneaky.
She quickly ran back over toward where she should have been laying and hastily laid down. Her heart was pumping fast with anxiety. Maybe Weylyn didn't hear her after all.... Right?

Weylyn pretended to be asleep. He thought it was cute that Karin thought she could sneak by him, and more often than not, he would play along and allow her to think she was doing so well. He knew that she tended to be a little on the clumsy side when it came to sneaking, but he pretended to ignore it. When she kicked the stones and rocks, and finally smacked into the cave wall, letting out her yelp... it was all Weylyn could do not to laugh. He remained completely still and silent as she rushed back to her sleeping spot. He could hear her heart thudding against her chest and he smiled to himself.
Deciding to 'wake up' and stretch, he let loose a yawn and shook the dirt from his pelt. He looked toward the form of Karin and smiled.
"You awake?" He whispered as he took a few pawsteps toward her. He sat on his haunches and waited for her to reply, and to see if she would continue her little charade or if she would give it up and let him know she had been trying to sneak out.

Karin's little heart pumped rapidly as she heard Weylyn proceed to wake up. Snap, I've been caught... she thought quickly. She slyly slitted one of her eye lids and watched as he took a few paces toward her. You awake?
Of course I am... With a quick push off the floor with her back legs, she shot toward him in an attempt of a quick attack. It was definitely in a playful manner though. She thought of Weylyn like a leader. Whatever he was to do, she would surely follow. He was wise, sincere, and tough. Much like her father was. So in otherwords, Weylyn was like her bonus father. Karin licked his face in a happy and playful manner as she climbed on him and played around. "Good Morning Wey!" She giggled adorably. Hopefully, a little distraction would make him forget about her sneaking out if he did know about her attempt.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

He laughed as she glomped him, rolling over onto his back as she proceeded to lick his face clean off. His belly shook with his laughter and his eyes had almost begun to water from it.
"Hello to you too, Karin! Staying out of mischief, I presume? After all, you must have been, considering you were sleeping so soundly." He smiled at her kindly and with almost a fatherly expression. That's how he viewed her, as his adopted daughter, and he was more than okay with it. Snowdrift would grow to love her as he had grown to love her. Not that Snowdrift didn't like her now, it was just a matter of little interaction between the two. This bothered Weylyn slightly, but he hardly, if ever, showed it. He had two wonderful faes in his life and he wouldn't give it up for anything in the world.
"So, what do you have planned for today?" He looked at Karin, knowing full well that she thought he might be a little overprotective, but it was in his nature and he couldn't bear the thought of anything ever happening to her. It was all in good thoughts and good interests, even if it did seem a tad controlling.

His eyes were bright orange, and they watched the entrance to a cave. Just a brute and a pup, nothing extraordinary but he had come oh so far to find this, the parklands. He knew he had to be close as soon as he reached the edge of this forest, knew by the smell. Like power surged through the earth itself at the footsteps of the wolves of the land. His fur bristled with excitement, and from his fur a thousand pleased chitters and clicks erupted.
He hushed his children to be quiet, to stay hidden. After all, he was new to these lands, and he didn't want to go scaring off any new friends now did he? But there was no sense in hiding. His fur was amber, and in this environment he stuck out no matter how he could try to hide. He took just a moment, smelling these wolves from a distance. He wondered as he took the first steps towards the cave, just how they would taste.
-----------------------------------
The paddings of paws outside the cave was the only indication of the travelers arrival. A coyote stood outside the cave, looking in. He looked weary, exhausted, as if the stray breeze could knock him over. But his eyes were kind, his smile broad and unthreatening. He was good at what he did, this game of cat and mouse, spider and fly.
"I do hope I am not interrupting anything. I have been traveling for some time and wished to know what land I have discovered," His voice was gentle, and from the first word the Coyotes game was afoot.
Coyote had come to the pack lands, and with him destruction followed.

Weylyn had only just asked Karin a question when another brute... a coyote of all things, happened to pad to his den entrance. Something about the brute was odd to Weylyn, but he couldn't put his paw on it. Instantly, as an instinct to his newly tapped fatherly features after adopting Karin, he stood between the brute and Karin, shielding her mainly from any potential threat this brute might have.
What struck Weylyn as odd, was his instincts were mixed about the brute. Part of him was wary, but the brute seemed to be completely calm and collected, as if he truly meant his words. Weylyn knew a little better and knew not to instantly trust any being he came into contact with. He raised his head a little higher than the coyote's and replied in an equally calm and cool voice.
"These lands are the lands of the Toko Forest of Aelyn. Were you looking for any place in particular?" He wasn't going to say anything about the fact they were currently alpha-less. It wasn't something you went and spread around, especially with creatures like Lucid so near. He calmly stood across from the brute, his muscles relaxed, but ready to spring at any instant should anything be instigated.
He watched the coyote, unsure if he possessed any powers. He wasn't about to let himself be caught off guard, but he also wasn't about to sound like an ass in his kind manner. He waited for a response.

Coyote seemed to grin, his smile a little too wide to fit is face right. "No. I come from lands far beyond these and I left to see what else the world had to offer," The best lies were always the true ones after all. Coyote's eyes looked innocently at the occupants of the cave, seeming to just mark their presence.
They were wolves, any one of them was going to be larger and stronger than Coyote in a blunt fight of tooth and nail. So, he would need to play a little game, for a little while at least. Words of the darkness echoed in his head. He was to go forth and spread the seeds of chaos. If the great ones fell, the alphas, then it would come, then he would walk the packlands and claim them for his own. But before that could happen, Coyote had work to do.
"Tell me, are you the only creatures in these woods? If at all possible I would love to meet your alpha. Thats how wolves live right? In packs with an alpha?" Coyotes were solitary creatures by nature. He couldn't understand it, how these creatures could put so much faith in the decisions of another. It made such an orderly existence. By the creation of a community an entity is made, and at the head of the entity the leader always dwells. Destroy the head, and chaos will ensue.
Coyotes eyes glanced to the young wolf next to the larger adult. A small clicking whispered in his ear. His children were hungry, and they wanted fresh meat. He gave a kind look to the child, then returned his gaze to the wolf, taking a small experimental step forward, "I'm afraid I have only limited interactions with your kind,"

Karin tired to answer Weylyn, but was caught off gaurd when he jumped up and blocked her from the entrance of the cave. She peered around his body toward the cave front and spotted another wolf. No.. it wasn't a wolf... A coyote? Maybe.. she wasn't all to sure. She sniffed a bit, trying to get some sort or scent for the male, but couldn't quite catch one. She sighed and sat back behind Weylyn.
The two were interacting after all. What kind of wolf would she be if she tried to interupt them? A very rude and disrespectful wolf, indeed. Kar peered one more time around Weylyn at the mention of an alpha. They didn't have an alpha at the moment, sadly. Poor Corrinth... just dissapeared. She let out a soft sigh in memory of him. He was so kind to her, even if when she first showed up she hunted on his land. Why can't we all just be friends?
It didn't take long for her to peer around Weylyn again. She was such a curious little thing. When the other male looked at her and gave her a 'kind' look... she didn't feel at all comforted. Something wasn't right about him, and even though she was young, she could sence somethings... like that scent.... Pups? There were others out there. Playmates!
Karin took a few steps around Weylyn, her nose twitching madly at the scent of other pups.

Snowdrift was out getting a rabbit for the pup karin. She hadn't really talked to any of Weylyn's adopted pups. She was very much afraid that they would not like her.
She sniffed the ground and caught sent of the rabbit. She slowly lifted her head. To her suprise, the rabbit was only abot 10 yards in front of her....knawing on some grass.
Quietly but swiftly she crawled a few steps closer...the rabbit must have heard her cause it stood up quickly and looked in her direction. "Darn it" she thought. She started running full force towards the rabbit....it was an easy kill. It took her less than 20 seconds to catch it.
Happy with her kill, Snow trotted toward the den. She got overly excited and started to run. She felt the wind rushing through her fur. She was almost in sight of the den when she bolted even faster. Running at full strength toward the den when all of the sudden bam. She ran into something. Not something but someone. A cyote.
When Snow first left home as an adolecent, she had ran into a huge pack of cyotes. She knew from experience that they were very un-higenic and somewhat sly. She had been prancing around looking for food when a couple of cyotes found her. They teased her about her size and that she was alone, then they chased her. She thought that she was going to die. Since then she has been deathly afraid of cyotes.
Scared as Snow was, she grabbed up the rabbit and stood to the rear of her mate. She made sure that she was standing in front of Karin, cause she knew she had to protect her mates adopted pup, cause if you thought about it, it was also her adopted pup too.
"Hey Karin, hey sweetie, who is your friend?" Snow tried to act as calm as possible, but the truth was, she wanted to run to the back of the den and hide. She patiently waited for whatever was going to happen next.

Weylyn looked at Karin for a brief second before turning his gaze back toward the brute before him. This brute was a coyote and Weylyn would do whatever it took to protect his family.
That's when he heard Snow. He could catch her scent from a mile away. She and Karin hadn't had much bonding time, but Weylyn knew they would get along great... they were both great females and had a little more in common than what would be seen at first glance.
Weylyn could tell Snow was scared and he wanted to comfort her as best he could. He side-stepped closer to her to touch his pelt to hers in order to provide her a sense of comfort and hope. He wanted to reassure her that he was there and that he wasn't going to let anything happen to either of them.

"You do have an alpha don't you? I would hate to keep traveling through these lands without permission of the leader." He sounded as empathetic and wise as any other traveller who might pass through. But Coyote knew the nature of wolves, they see what isn't seen, and they often know what they cannot justify. it was written on their faces, they were scared of him.
Coyote glanced out into the forest, his friend was waiting out there, perched on eye black legs on a tree, its fangs ready to devour these wolfs, it seemed his friend had a liking of the cub, maybe it wouldn't eat that one, just lay eggs in it, after all, its babies always came out hungry, how cute. He looked back, mentally shrugging off the thought, the time for carnage and chaos was not now, and no matter how much it pained him, he had to be absolutly civil for a bit longer. He had to find their alpha, and then, and then the fun would really start.
"Please strangers. i wish not to bother you. As I said I have been traveling for a long time, and more than once I have been attacked for moving through lands in which I had not the permission," Every word was enunciated with a formal percision. "If you would just point me in the right direction, I will leave you to your day,". And if they didn't... well, there are more than one way to get information from someone, much bloodier ways.

Alaenia sniffed the air. Ahead was brambles, leading to a forest of some sort. All the lands were trapped in winter, sent forth from the NorthLands, Alaenia's ancestral lands. She grinned from ear to ear as the others, Tegari, Celadon, Svara, and Kioshi, caught up with her. She turned, looking for Diamon, the Black-Coat. The brute had been following her little group for a while. She expected him to pop his little head out sooner or later. When a minute of scanning the grounds passed she turned back to her group.
"Well, what do you think?" she said. The others sniffed and Svara, a big brute with ideas of alphaship, spoke first.
"Seems to be without alphas. Few markers here," he said. Tegari, a yearling from last fall, always moved with caution.
"Let's just wait and see. Their territory may have shrunk," said the yearling. Alaenia looked over the forest.
"No, there are no alphas, or so it would seem. Perhaps we should seek 'refuge' from these cold nights with them to assess their exact numbers," Alaenia said. Celadon and Kioshi stood beside her in the circle. They looked to her for guidance, barely being out of den. They were only two season's old. Kioshi's deep grey coat marked her on the open tundra that they passed, but Celadon's glowed under the moonless sky with a strange green hue. She glowed like the trees in the summer when she had first appeared in the den. Alaenia simply bent and licked the puplettes to reassure them. "Let's move. We'll rest once we're out from the open. The brambles will give us some shelter for the night. Then, we'll move further into the forest and take note of the pack here. If they are conquerable, then we will conquer. If they are not, then we will join them, do their bidding and then destroy them from the inside out. Much like the arachnids of the west." A murmur of assent ran through the circle. Then they broke and formed a half circle and continued at a leisurely pace to the brambles.
OOC: Hope I can join up here and that this is a satisfactory intro post!

Weylyn needed to think quickly. How was he going to get out of this... it was true that they had no Alpha, but he wasn't about to tell this brute that. Perhaps he could change the subject? Weylyn figured this brute was a little too clever for that to work. He took a deep breath as if he were about to answer. Luckily, a scent caught his nose. More wolves!
"Well, I'm sorry to say, but there are other matters to attend to at the moment. Do you not smell it? Other wolves tread these lands as well. I can't be rude and ignore them. You're more than welcome to accompany me, if you so wish. I do not wish any rudeness upon you either. Better to have a group together and to take care of things all at once, especially in the idea of talking to the Alpha, rather than go through the whole process many times, am I right?" He smiled kindly, still having a feeling about him that didn't want to trust this brute.
Weylyn whispered to Karin to stay close and to not stray too close to this Coyote character. He then brushed next to Snowdrift in a comforting fashion before making his first steps toward the cave exit. He paused for a moment, waiting for what his two companions and what the brute Coyote would do.
Raising his maw to the air, he howled a song, signifying to the newcomers that he knew they were there and that someone would be coming to greet them shortly. Patiently, he waited for those around him.

In his fashion Coyote reacted, his positive demeanor not dented a bit by the sudden shift in topics. For this wolfs reluctance to answer spoke volumes to his situation. This was not a pack at all, there was no alpha. But, the poor wolf did have a point, there were others entering the lands, their scent familiar to Coyote. He had heard of them, heard of their exploits. A small shiver of excitement ran up his spine. He had hoped to encounter them here, for if the tales were true, they would be a most useful tool to him and his masters. "Shall we?" He asked, a smile too broad for his muzzle on his face.
Clicking legs, eyes too numerous to count. it watched, just as told, it watched but not act. She was a good girl after all, as were her children, three thousand of them that rode her back. She watched master speak to the food, and she listened to her children whispering to her of more food entering the land, dangerous food. She lowered her black glistening body, hard as stone and large as master, she was hungry, and as soon as master told her to, she would eat, and so would her babies.

Alaenia halted on a bluff. The scents of the other wolves of the area grew strong and she grinned brightly. She looked to her left and spotted the spectral shadow... Shadowwolf himself: Diamon.
"My prey...." she growled. Alaenia jumped, leading the others with them and still she watched as Shadow followed on foot. She knew not his abilities. But she grinned as he veered off towards a hill of thick oaks. As she approached she watched the Shadowwolf disappear into the only space between the oaks. She stepped forward, teeth barred and mind on the ice around her. She glanced about and found the space within the oak circle empty, but soft like moss. The snow had not gotten into the hallow. The others entered.
"Alaenia? What did you see?" Tegari asked, entering into the hallow slowly. Kioshi and Celadon entered after him. Svara grinned as he entered.
"Shadow... He stalks us. We should lay an ambush for him... Then," he grinned evilly and Alaenia turned, snapping on the brute. Svara backed and Alaenia continued her assault. She ripped into his flesh, venting her frustations and anger at his recent bought of boldness.
"You I will never chose to rule with me... You seek only power through those who are in power. You are unfit in my eyes and it's my choice" Alaenia spat. Her muzzle was blood stained, and she licked her chops. "You remember the brute who thought, thought I was tamable... What I did to him?" An ice cage formed from the ground around Svara. "For you, I will make it quick for your loyalty. I will honor you that far and only that far. For I am done with you," Alaenia said. Celadon cried out.
"Alaenia! Please... He's a stupid idiot! But don't kill him, please?!"
"Cel, he doesn't deserve the kindness you give him."
"Alaenia, please?! Celadon broke into a whine and laid her head on her paws, crawling on her belly towards the alpha. Alaenia turned. She didn't snap at the pupette. She remembered being in the same posture towards the betas when they stood in her position with her father pinned to the wall, roots binding him tightly.
What have I become? Alaenia thought. She looked over Svara, terror in his eyes and she snorted, letting the icicles recede into the ground. "You are lucky that Celadon can bring me back to my senses, Svar. Stay out of my sight. Or you'll end up with the imbeciles back int he Northlands. A Svara-flavored icicle. Delicious..." Alaenia licked her chops and formed a wall of ice at the entrance to the Oak Circle and forms an ice cave to keep their heat in in the chilly night.
Hopefully, her shadow would return... to take his place beside her.

Weylyn almost could tell the brute knew of their situation. Something about his posture changed slightly that alerted Weylyn to such a change. He mentally growled to himself and looked to his mate, Snowdrift.
"Well, love... are you ready to greet the other newcomers? How about you, Karin? Unless you think it a better idea, Snowdrift to remain with Karin in case something happens? I almost think that might be a better idea... would be a good bonding opportunity." He smiled kindly to his adopted daughter and his mate and then turned toward the brute. "I guess we shall." He padded forward and stood next to the brute, waiting for any resistance or response from his mate and daughter.
He paused only a moment longer before he gestured toward the brute to follow him. Leading the way, he padded forward, constantly alert, to find the newcomers and welcome them to the lands of the Toko Forest. Weylyn almost felt like an Alpha in these lands, but he would never proclaim it as so. He was set as Gamma... pup-sitter to the pack... and he quite liked his position.
His ears strained for any response from his mate and daughter, in case they had objections. He had been leading the way slow enough in an effort to let them know he wasn't abandoning them and if they had any ideas or objections, that he would listen and consider them.

Coyote followed by his side, ever step he took seemed... planned. Like with every movement Weylyn made, it would be exactly what Coyote was planning. So was the conflict of tricksters. They passed a tree, a scuttling noise came from its branches. Coyote looked up, "Just a bird," He said lazily. A bird, one with eight legs and an empty stomach. He looked to the wolf, then to the smell ahead. It would be an interesting day. He would get Weylyn's support, as he would get the support of these new wolves in the land. He would, or his spiders would get to eat, either way, Coyote would take the day.
The master was clear, not to eat, not to eat, but to trap, to ensnare and hold. Later she would eat, later she would trap food in her web, and suck them right up. Later she would tear into the pups meat. But for now, Master had a game he wanted to play, and she was good at helping him play his gamed. To the cave of food she raced, on eight legs and flash of black movement. On her back her children rode, prepared as she was for the task at hand.
"So tell me my friend," Coyote mused to the wolf, "Have you ever travelled outside the pack lands? Its a dreadful place really, why just a few months ago I saw six wolves get devoured by spiders," He shook his head, feigning disgust when really all he felt was laughter, "You truly are blessed here in the packs,"

Alaenia lay with her back to the oaks. She watched through the ice, like a oneway mirror. She closed her eyes and dozed. The pack around her slept, the pupettes together in a huddle the other two, Kioshi and Svara sat on opposite sides of the oaks. Svara was closer to the entrance, while Kioshi lay near the pups. She snorted and lay her head upon the ground. Alaenia growled and Kioshi's head rose, turning to her alpha. Alaenia snorted. Kioshi was a guard, to lay one's head was a sign of weariness, not alertness. Alaenia stood and stretched. She walked to Kioshi and looked over the shewolf as she lay.
"Sleep, but at the back. I'll take your watch," Alaenia murmured. Kioshi shook her head standing.
"I'm fine, Lady..."
"Kioshi. It wasn't a request. Go." The guardwolf stood and went tot he place that Alaenia had vacated. The alphess laid in Kioshi's spot on her side, facing the ice wall. Svara shifted and Alaenia remained still. He lay on his belly, watching her with a raised head. After a time Alaenia growled low in her throat. "You'd do well to watch the wall, and not me, Svara."
"Forgive me... I cannot help that you are so beautiful...."
Alaenia raged and stood in an instant, jumping and ripping into Svara's shoulder, neck and muzzle. The brute whines and whimpered as she ripped and maimed him, finally managing to flip him onto his back where she seized his throat and ripped it wide. The pups scurried back against the wall at the sounds of the fight and watched around Kioshi's paws as Svara bled. Alaenia's lip was ripped when Svara finally decided to fight back. Her shoulder without the moon mark bled and a bite on her chest bled as well. She growled and circled watching Svara bleed.
" We move in an hour. Rest your paws and feet... The blood will draw others... Unwanted attention..." Alaenia fell to her side and cleaned the chest and shoulder wounds to the best of her ability. The pups remained far away from her. Her rage had ebbed, for now... Kioshi remained between Alaenia and the pups, whispering for the pups to rest their heads and sleep for a bit more, before they would move.
The pups refused to sleep and Alaenia took pity on them, knowing they would rather be able to turn and run away if they felt the need. She stood and lowered the ice barrier and began to walk out. The pups rose before Kioshi and ran out, skirting the wall and away from Svara. Now it was all faes, except for the small pup Tegari. They began their journey towards the packland's assumed center.

Snowdrift watched as her mate calmly took charge of the curcumstances that was happening. She knew how cyotes were. She remebered her months as a loner pup. They cyotes were cleaver creatures. Of course not as cleaver as a wolf, but a pup would easily fall into thier traps, as she had as a pup. She was lucky though, she got out alive.
"Love, whenever we will have time to talk I have to talk to you, but while you're busy all I have to say is good luckand be careful. I love you!"
She knew she had to warn her mate before he left, so as he was slowly walking away she ran up to him in a playful manner and snuggled up to him. As she was snuggled up to him, she whispered into his ear "I was little, but I remember, cyotes are very good tricksters. They almost got me." She nuzzled more and whispered again, "please do be cautious, I am almost 100% sure that that cyote is up to no good. BE CAREFUL!"
She backed away a little and licked and nibbled her mates lips. "I'll watch over 'our' daughter while you're gone!" She kissed him again before bounding over to their pups side.
"Karin sweetie I would like to talk to you okay?" She lightly tugged at Karins tail, in a happy, playful manner. As soon as everyone was out of sight she whispered to her. "First off I hope that I'm not coming to sudden as a mother figure. I just want to protect you. I love Weylyn and I love you and I know he has taken you in and I was hoping we could also be very close. I have to warn you about our visiting cyote. I don't like it. When I was little I was tricked by them and they almost got me. If I wouldn't have gotten away, they probably would have killed me. They are very cleaver and I just want to protect you. So please don't stray far away from me or your father...I mean Weylyn until we know for sure or not If everything is safe."
She smiled at her pup, hoping someday Weylyn would like to have their own. She would always love Karin, always, but she still wanted to have her own pups. She's always wanted to be a mother. She shook her head to think clearer. "I've gotta think differently right now." She thought, "I've gotta be alert for any signs that the cyote is indeed an enemy."
Snowdrift decided that she would look for clues, so she turned to her pup and said "Would you like to go for a quick hunt? You know to get a snack? I'm a little hungry and i'm guessing you are as well. Lets Go!" And with that gesture, they bounded off playfully to look for small game to catch.

The sun had reached over the edge of the world and shown brightly when they exitted the copse of Oak Trees. Alaenia turned, looking over her shoulder at the pups as they stayed behind Kioshi. Under her paws, Alaenia felt the earth warming to the Sun. Snow melted into puddles, quickly here or slower over here. Spring had broken the back of winter and the animals would be returning.
Alaenia continued to pace evenly, but slowly. She knew that it had been a long time since meat had touched the tongues of the pups and that she herself was growing hungry. It was normally the brutes ob to catch the meat but having killed their last one, and unsure as to whether or not Shadow would stay within the pack. His type she had seen come and go before: come in, mate, do a few hunts to feed the fae, then leave. She hoped within her heart that it wasn't like that. Then her stomach pained. Huuuuunnnnngreeeeeeeuh.... It seemed to say. She turned as they walked and spoke over her shoulder.
"Step quietly little ones. If a deer or a rabbit is ahead I want to be able to--" She faded off as the scent of venison entered her nose. She turned into the gully and, not more then 200 feet from the Oak Cave, there was a great deer laying with it's throat ripped out. Alaenia turned and called out to Celadon and Tegari. "[color-blue]Or not." The two pups ran to her side and looked down into the gully and around at the deer.
"Can we have some?" asked Tegari.
"Yeah! Can we!?" Asked Celadon. Alaenia grinned.
"Wait..." The fae stepped forward and down into the gully as Kioshi took up guarding her rear. Alaenia stepped up to the deer and sniffed it. It had been down for less then a day and it's blood still flowed from the wounds in it's neck. She nodded to the pups to come forward to eat and Alaenia returned to Kioshi's side.
"You let them eat first?" Kioshi asked. Alaenia grinned.
"For them my heart is not ice. They are my brother and sister, the last of my mother and father besides me. I told my mother I would protect them, and protect them I shall. She spoke of coyote and shadows as she died. 'Keep them away from Shadows and Coyote.... They are wild and viscious in their cunning.' And so I have become cold, heartless... almost. It is a defense. Nothing more... Eat, Kioshi. When the pups have had their fill gorge."
"I cannot eat before the Alphaess. It is forbidden."
"I order you," Alaenia's eyes glinted the ice blue that they became when angered. The betaess bowed her head and descended into the gully. Alaenia watched the gully's edges for trouble. She should have been in the ditch with them, feast. but she only had herself to blame. She was the one to kill the idiotic brute Svara. She now she was stuck with his job: Watch over the pack. Not hard when you're doing it already...
Kioshi and the pups ascended the otherside and Alaenia descended, gorging on the carcass. Once she had had her fill, she dug into the now thawing ground, scraping it up over the carcass to semi-hide it. The scent would alert the owners of these lands first. Then the scent of the rotting Svara would garner more attention. Alaenia ascended the other side of the gully and licked the faces of the pups. Thank the gods, known and unknown, for giving her guardianship when they could eat meat. That way, none of her meal would be lost. She needed the strength of the meat to heal her wounds the fool heart had left on her.
They stepped off again and continued through the forest south and west, skirting the plain's edge. Something was drawing her that way. She was unsure what it was, other then a long walk in unfamiliar territory.
