Masina remained in silence as she listened to their conversation. She did not trust nor like this brute one bit and would keep a very close eye on him, should he remain in the waterfalls. Something about him threw her off, specifically the stories she had heard of him from her parents before their untimely demise. Thinking to herself, she thought about prodding deeper into the purpose she had heard so much about.
"So, hunting, you say? What do you hunt exactly? It must be something very unique for it to be a family tradition, wouldn't you say, Eden?" [/b] Her voice was innocent and didn't even give any hint at all to what she was trying to get him to discuss. She had heard stories from her parents, having lived in Aelyn all her life. She waited patiently and was about to prod a little further when Celestia came forward. Celestia. I'm right here. What exactly do you need? This brute is wooing Eden, but I don't trust him... for reasons that I had learned about in my puphood. Anyway, I don't want to leave him alone with any of the pack members, okay? She adjusted her wings slightly. Her telepathic speech with Celestia should go unnoticed because of how she held herself. It wasn't obvious that she was communicating as such and her attention was focused mostly on Harbinger to divulge his hunting stories.[/blockquote]

Harbinger's mind drifted toward the dim memory of his past at the sound of Eden's voice, pondering the words she was saying about his parents being proud of him as well as him being lonely on his journey throughout Aelyn. Harbinger knew that Eden was absolutely right---sometimes loneliness was the worst enemy of all, and to him it destroyed his rather cold heart on a daily basis. Beneath that strong, confident facade was an innocent brute who wanted nothing more than to love and be loved---granted he knew that it was impossible to dedicate his entire existent to something that menial. Honor and obligation played too large of a role.
"Yes...it does get very lonely sometimes...and I'm not really entirely sure if my parents would be proud of me or not...they were always hard on me...wanting the best out of every situation." Obsidian whispered as the disregarded Celestia's presence completely, somehow feeling her completely pure aura.
Celestia stretched her wings and moaned in pain at a wound that she sustained on her leg from the rather violent landing. She admired her beautiful large wings, and she knew that at this rate she'd be fully grown in a matter of days. As Celestia's memory continued to return, she realized that there was more and more she had forgotten during her rebirth. She was well aware of the evil that plagued the once known Mystified Realm and unfortunately it still invaded the same place now known as Aelyn.
I do not remember this wolf at all...this Harbinger...and I too do not trust him. I think this was the foreboding feeling I was sensing earlier....[/b] Celestia whispered telepathically as she glanced at Masina, wondering what the betess was going to do about this feeling both fae shared.

Eden looked to Harbinger, a sad expression etched into her features. His tone had been, somewhat, sad. It tugged at her heart. The fae didn't know of his past, but to be alone was a punishment, no one was meant to have. No matter what crime was commited.
The fae pushed her nose into his neck fur, giving him a smile. This smile was tender, more so then the others he had recieved that day. This one held a hidden promise. If at all possible, Eden would help alleviate his loneliness and inner turmoil.
"I'm sure," she began, "if they saw you now, they'd be proud of the brute you've become." Her statement was sympathetic and gentle. If one paid close enough attention, one could here a fondness growing.

Masina listened to the brute and waited for him to reply to her question. Noticing he had been so elusive to the question, Masina's questions about him grew even more numerous. She flicked her tail for a moment before she spoke up once more, almost interrupting the two wolves conversation.
"I see you've avoided my question." [/b] She stopped in her tracks, standing in front of the two wolves and attempting to make them stop as well. "You will answer my questions, otherwise you will go no further, Harbinger. Now, what sorts of things do you hunt? Traditionally, wolves hunt in packs for food, but something tells me that you are not doing any such thing and that the thing you hunt is something even bigger and more close to home."[/b] She flicked her tail, her voice was commanding, something very out of place for Masina. Most wolves, if not all of them, knew her to be what some would call a pushover, but when it came to something she cares about, also known as her packlands, she would do whatever it took to defend them and to keep the wolves in the lands safe, no matter what it took. Something about this Harbinger character didn't sit right with her, and she was going to get to the bottom of it, one way or another... even if she had to read his mind to do so.[/blockquote]

Harbinger turned and faced Masina with a slightly regretful expression on his face. While he really did not feel like answering her question completely he knew that he had to provide some sort of information to satisfy her.
"I hunt what most wolves will not hunt. And I generally hunt alone." he replied almost coldly as he turned from her and stared at Celestia for a brief moment, knowing that she was trying to scan his mind. For some odd reason he had a peculiar fear of this young pup, she saw a lot more than she was supposed to---and part of him feared that same thing from Masina as well.
"Forgive me for my silence, Masina. Most pack leaders are aware of what I do...and I prefer it to stay confined to them. I hunt for a living, that is what I do." Harbinger whispered calmly yet politely.

She almost growled at him. He was showing disrespect. Masina didn't usually hold herself in high regards and above others in her position, she genuinely liked to treat herself as equal to the other wolves around her... but not this time. This time, this wolf was going to feel the wrath that she had been holding in after all the events that have traversed across the times she'd been alone, starting with Glaukos.
She held her head higher and looked directly at Harbinger, her eyes almost cold... a definite change in their appearance and even her posture. She wasn't going to let him say so little. Eden needed to know who this wolf was, and if Masina had to flat out say it herself, she would.
"You're giving me the bare minimum of what I've asked for. What do most wolves not hunt? Or is it something so... evil... that you dare not speak it in front of the wolf you are trying to woo?" [/b] She really didn't want to do this to Eden, but she had every right to know what wolf she was dealing with, especially since Masina was now very sure she knew of this wolf and of the terrible things he did. Her eyes held fire in them that showed she was serious about what she was saying and that he wasn't going to get very far if he continued to disrespect her and basically lie to the wolves present.[/blockquote]

Eden was surprised by Masina's actions. The fae came to a halt and sat back on her haunches, watching the scene between Harbinger and Masina. Why was Masina acting so...cold? It wasn't like her. Harbinger was sweet and nice, so why would she treat him in such a way?
She couldn't understand it. Masina was her Betess, however. She would not, could not, defy her. Her silver eyes gazed at Masina's angelic form with a deep curiousity etched on her features. Did the Betess know something that she did not? More than likely. Eden was fond of Harbinger, possibly even close to loving him. The brute brought out so many different emotions in her and made her feel loved and cherished, even if they had just met.
"Masina, what's wrong? Why do you act this way? It's not like you at all, " Eden asked. The fae didn't want to see disobediant, but she wanted to know what she was missing. She needed to know. Her silver gaze switched between Masina to Harbinger. Was he keeping something from her. They had just met, but was it something important? Something that could disrupt the peacful balance they had created? "Harbinger?" She gave him a questioning stare.

Harbinger tensed his muscles in the light of Masina's skepticism. At first he did not want to come off as being disrespectful but at this rate the Betsses' demeaning attitude really began to annoy him. Harbinger guessed that if she wanted the cold hard truth, then she might as well get it.
"Most wolves don't hunt themselves." he whispered coldly, turning away from Masina and facing Eden, "I didn't want you to fear me, because it isn't wolves like you three that I hunt."
Harbinger took a deep breath as he felt Masina's gaze piercing his pelt, she was quite the persistent one---an attitude another darker wolf he knew possessed. No matter where he turned the brute could not elude a constant stare. Celestia too kept her eyes fixed upon him as if she'd miss something important if she didn't.
Celestia throughout the entire process kept close mental contact with Masina. The situation seemed a lot more foreboding the more information Harbinger concealed about his intentions. It was something Celestia remembered occurring often in her past life, but from another wolf instead. It seemed as though secrets always caused complications---no matter what they were about.
Whatever he's hiding....I think he feels that it is the right thing in his point of view...[/i] Celestia commented telepathically.

"Why?" Eden asked, confusion evident in her voice. Why would he hunt other wolves? What was the point? Did he do it for kicks? She didn't know, but she would not pass judgment upon him. Like before, she still felt for him, but, now, confusion was added to the mixture.
Until she knew the whole truth, she would not forsaken him. He deserved a chance to expain. The fact that she was becoming taken with him helped. Her silver eyes, stared at Harbinger, still seeing the wolf she had met not that long ago. Charming and sweet.

Masina, her eyes cold as ice as she looked at the brute, felt the need to prod further into his mission. Eden deserved to know the whole truth, not to mention, Masina knew of a single wolf she had met that would be in danger to this brute. Obsidian, she knew, was in fact the very wolf that this monster would hunt. In Masina's eyes, he was not welcome on these lands should he decide to continue in this fashion. Obsidian had free refuge here and she wouldn't allow this brute to harm him in any way.
"So what sorts of wolves do you hunt? Surely hunting any wolf or any of your own kind is an immoral thing to do, yes? What makes you think that you have the right to hunt these wolves? And you hold yourself in such high regard, thinking every alpha knows that you do these things, when in fact, those alphas you seek have long since passed. Times have changed and you need to realize that your habits are not welcome here. Tell Eden, what it is that you truly hunt... the immoral reasonings to your existence." [/b] She glared at him. Masina was very protective of the ones she loved and would be generally kind, unless it came to a subject she felt strongly about, in which she would let her voice be known and her entire demeanor would change to a more commanding and powerful, for lack of a better word, posture. I know what he's hiding. Remember Obsidian? Wolves like him he hunts. I've heard stories from my parents and I have dug into his mind... not that I feel its the right thing to do, but in some cases, when it comes to my family, I think its the right thing to do.[/color] She didn't take her eyes from Harbinger as she said this. When Eden spoke, she turned her gaze momentarily to her to acknowledge her words. "He's not telling you the whole truth. Let him tell you what he truly does. If he doesn't, I will."[/b] Her voice grew to its former kindness when speaking to Eden and didn't hold the icy tone that she had with Harbinger. She cared about her pack and even about the loners that traversed through them... at least, those who held only pure intentions in their hearts. Harbinger wanted to bring harm to wolves she cared about and even fought for a cause that she felt strongly against, and she wouldn't let him traverse another inch without coming completely clean.[/blockquote]

Harbinger took a deep breath and stared up toward the sky, attempting to think of a decent way to explain himself. He knew that no matter how he described what he did for a living it would always sound like something evil. The sullen dark wolf could not help how he was raised not to mention the legacy he had to carry on. Last Harbinger knew, most of the leading wolves of Aelyn were aware of the role his family played.
"I hunt wolves who live their lives in alternative lifestyles. Mainly wolves who choose to lustfully engage in activities with wolves of the same gender. Anything that inhibits Aelyn's ability to reproduce in the normal logical manner, I deal with. My family has done it for generations and it used to be widely accepted by all pack leaders. And I am sorry that you probably will not understand, Masina." Harbinger nobly said as he turned his attention back toward Eden, "I am still the same Harbinger, Eden...the same Harbinger that cares a great deal for you and finds you wildly beautiful beyond anything found in Aelyn. This has just been my destiny since I was a child....It is how I was raised...and I cannot help who I am...."
Celestia lowered her head and understood the situation from Harbinger's perspective. It was true that he was raided that way and that it was somewhat impossible for him to just randomly change. As her memory returned she could remember how most of the leading wolves in the pack lands agreed to allow Harbinger's family to slay alternative lifestyle leading wolves. Back then, there was rampant fear of not producing enough strong puppies.
As much as we find his point of view immoral...we have to remember that Harbinger is used to living in a world where this type of thing was permitted. Ask him what pack he originated from, Masina dear.[/i] Celestia asked politely, whishing that she could speak vocally.

Eden listened as the conversation went on. It was turning darker, more so than she had thought possible. Her silver eyes continued to gaze into Harbinger's, trying to search his very soul. It was wrong, what he did. She could admit that. Eden was torn. The fae wanted to be angry, wanted to strike out, and scream. But she couldn't. Something was holding her back. Whether it was her feeling for him, she didn't know but Eden couldn't make herself angry.
Harbinger wanted to harm others for their individual ways of life, and Eden knew it was wrong. Oh, so wrong. She couldn't get angry, though. Did that make her evil? Did she choose the possiblity of a mate over the lives of innocent wolves? A single, small tear ran down the side of her face.
What was she to do? Eden felt so strongly for the brute and at the same time wanted to help those he hunted. Her heart ached. Was it possible for him to change? Could he stop hunting and merely have prejudices? Was it even a possiblity? "Can you change?" Eden asked, her voice barely a whisper. The wolves around her could easily hear the sorrow and confusion mixed into her voice. From the bottom of her heart, she hoped he could.

Harbinger felt overwhelmed by guilt and sadness at the very words that came from Eden's maw. He cared so deeply for her, he wanted to be hers.....but Harbinger realized that after the promise he had made to his parents so many years ago, he could not simply refuse his destiny. It would be almost like refusing who he was as a wolf.
"Eden, love...I can't change who I am...or my destiny. And I can't change how much I care for you. We've known each other for a short amount of time and I already feel that you understand me better than any of these other wolves..." Harbinger glanced back and forth between Celestia and Masina as he mentioned "others". "I know that some people find what I do to be horrific and terrible...but I was taught as a child that something that inhibits children from being born is just as terrible and horrific...."
Harbinger tried to explain his point of view politely and tactfully with deep care and concern in his voice. If there was anything he didn't want to lose, it was the beautiful fae before him.

"Why can't you just stop? Stop the killing? I'm not asking you the change your feelings or your beliefs, simply your actions," she asked, her voice still a mere whisper. Her silver eyes seemed to plead with him. Like the brute before her, Eden didn't wish to lose him. His words had hit home. They expressed what she had been feeling.
She felt at peace when she was with him, even if they were silent. His presence alone made her feel safe, even loved. Another tear rolled down her cheek, silently.
"I could never ask you to be anything but what you are, Harbinger. But, must you continue to kill? To kill people that are only guilty of being themselves? What if I was like that? You've seen me, you know who I am. Would you still kill me?" she asked, a quiver in her voice.
"Like you, Harbinger, I do not wish to lose you. You make me feel safe, loved," she explained, more tears streaming silently down her cheeks.

Harbinger felt a wave of painful sadness surging over his heart at the sight of Eden crying. He did not want her to feel like this, and it almost made him regret himself. Deep down he did not want to change because it was his legacy---his destiny...he couldn't simply ignore it. Deep within his mind, Harbinger howled out in angst and frustration at the decision that was knocking on his inward door. To change, or not to change? That was the question.
"It isn't that simple, Eden my love....I kill in order to protect the greater good of Aelyn---to prevent our pack lands from going extinct." Harbinger replied with desperation in his voice, hoping and wishing that Eden could understand. It wasn't' that he enjoyed killing per say, it was his family giving right and it was his duty to kill those who didn't want the same prosperous fertile life that Aelyn could enjoy. Wolves like that homosexual pup he had encountered so many years before were the object of his anger...if they grew and multiplied....they would destroy any hopes of having a prosperous new generation in Aelyn. Despite those terrifying thoughts in his mind, Harbinger knew that he did not want to hurt Eden anymore than he already did.
"I will suppress that side of me....for you." Harbinger said effortlessly as he smiled.
This untimely statement caused Celestia to give Masina a second glance of suspicion---finding it very awkward that Harbinger would jump to such a rash conclusion.
I find that to be extremely...rash...and I find it hard to believe he could simply change himself in the whim of a moment.[/i] Celestia commented telepathically.

Masina had wanted to let the two blossoming lovers take their time to work things out and for Eden to see the true side that this brute was. She didn't want her packmate to be hurt, but she had ever right to know what this brute did and what he was capable of. Masina held back many words and retorts that she had in mind while the two spoke. When he finally came to the point where he said he would repress that side of him, Masina grew very suspicious and finally spoke up.
Masina had been following his thoughts closely. "If gay wolves or wolves that chose a different lifestyle stuck with wolves that had similar preferences, how would they multiply? Chances are, they won't reproduce, so what's the point of killing them off then? In all honesty, I think that your so called destiny is futile and pointless." [/b] Her voice as harsh and it definitely showed that she felt strongly on this subject. She caught Celestia's telepathic message and flicked her tail slightly before replying. It is a rash decision, but if he sticks to it, it'll be better in the long run for keeping the peace. I don't want him here if he's going to kill off wolves that I am friends with... specifically Obsidian.[/i] She didn't take her eyes from the vile brute before her. "Do you really think you can change? I mean, honestly? After doing this your whole life? Say a wolf came by that had an alternative lifestyle... or even two wolves... mated wolves... what would you do? Would you kill them on the spot or repress yourself in an unhealthy manner for the rest of your lives... what if you were forced to live with wolves who were like that?"[/b] She was growing slightly anxious and knew she was being very harsh, but she felt strongly for this subject and for the wolves she called friends and family and she would stop at nothing to keep them protected and loved, especially from a killer and a murderer like the brute Harbinger before her.[/blockquote]

Eden's sad eyes brightened at his choice. He would change his ways for her. That alone, proved to Eden that he cared enough for her. The fae knew it would be difficult for Harbinger to change, but, hopefully, with her help they might be able to make it happen. Her tears continued to fall down her dark cheeks, but instead of just sorrow there was a mixture of happiness within those tears. She let out a deep sigh of relief. The knots in her belly slowly and easily unwound.
The fae padded forward, almost in a rush, and nuzzled her maw beneath his larger one. The relief that she felt was overwhelming. As was the happiness. He chose her over his heritage. That was something unthinkable. Eden pressed her face against his dark neck fur, her tears soaking his fur. "Thank you," she whispered to the brute. Her body shook as her sobs worsened. The fae looked up, her silver eyes staring into the very depths of Masina's soul. "Masina, he can change. You'll see, he'll change. Give him a chance," she said, her voice pleading with the Betess.
Eden wanted Masina to see. She wanted her to see the good in Harbinger, not the evil acts he had commited. The fae's tearfilled gaze looked from Masina to Celestia to Harbinger. She knew him. She felt for him. What he did, Harbinger did for the good of Aelyn. He lived his life for Aelyn, no matter how corrupt it had been. Everyone was allowed their prejudices.

Harbinger shot Masina a crude demeaning glance as he felt Eden leaning into his chest. Even though he did mention that he'd change, Harbinger did not like Masina's consistently paranoid attitude toward him---it was almost overbearingly annoying. He admired at the fact that Celestia didn't have to open her mouth and say anything against him too. As much as Harbinger wanted to open his maw and release some vile retort at Masina, he knew that he had to give her some form of respect as Fukai's Betess.
"I don't expect you to understand my experiences and the meaning of things in my life, Masina." Harbinger whispered as he stared down deeply into Eden's eyes, assuring her that he wasn't as evil as the golden winged fae thought he was.
Harbinger let his mind fall upon the growing pup that had crash landed before the journeying trio. In her eyes he could feel that Celestia knew something more than what met the surface of her personality. In the blink of an eye, Harbinger changed his expression from demeaning to peaceful in the light of Celestia's potent gaze, not wanting to rally suspicion.
"And yes, Masina...I do know that I can change. Especially when one is confronted with a better future. Like a future with this beautiful wolf." Harbinger finished his sentence with a heart felt nuzzle against Eden's ear.
With reluctance, Harbinger wore a gentle smile as he glanced over at Masina---knowing that she still would be suspicious of his rapid change of attitude.

Eden turned her silver gaze from Masina to Harbinger. Her tears had finally begun to stop, leaving behind only low whimpers. Relief had flooded her system, but they weren't out of the clear yet. Masina had yet to even hint at giving the brute a chance, much less even allow him entry to the den area.
Eden knew, the Betess wouldn't just accept Harbinger's sudden change, even if it was for a chance at love. She also knew, Celestia had the same feelings. Call it a hunch. As Harbinger nuzzled at her ear, she lifted her maw and nuzzled right back. By now, her tears had become non existent. As of right now, all the fae wanted to do was curl up and rest. The day had been exhausting and nerve wracking for her.
It started with a simple stroll. A nice stroll through the forest, an exploration. The stroll then led to an immensly handsome brute which caught the fae's attention immediately. Unfortunately, it also caught the attention of Masina, who became quite suspicious right way. One thing led to another and here they were: Eden nearly drowning in her own tears, an infuriated Masina, an annoyed Harbinger, and a still suspicious Celestia. How had things gotten so...messy?
Eden let out a sigh, a deep, sorrowful sigh. The fae leaned more fully into the brute at her side. Subconsciously, Eden was seeking Harbinger's warmth and protection from the cruelties the world handed out. What a day...

Masina listened to Edens sobbing and had to fight desperately against the hurt she felt at causing her packmate pain. Tears were in her eyes at the very sight, though none were shed. She needed to remain a strong barrier between Harbinger and the rest of the pack. Masina thought long and hard before answering.
"We'll see what Cindershock has to say about all of this, okay?" [/b] She flicked her tail once more, fire catching in her eyes each time she looked at the brute and murderer before her. She raised her slender maw to the air, her song echoing easily across the lands. It sounded like a melody worthy of the angels themselves as her voice rose and fell like the rising and the setting of the moon. After she finished, she lowered her eyes to face the two wolves before her once more. The call rang out as this: Cindershock, please come to me. I have a very important thing to discuss with you... She flicked her tail and smiled to Eden. "I will be conversing with Cindershock about this before any decisions are made. My personal judgement will be given to her. Since Cindershock is the Alphess, she has the last say, and you know this, but this doesn't mean that I'm not going to tell her exactly how I feel about the situation. Is this okay with you?"[/b] She didn't want to upset Eden further, but Masina felt it very important to make sure Eden was well aware of the monster before her. Masina had a feeling all hell was going to break loose sooner or later, specifically when Obsidian returned with his destined encounter Celestia had told him about.[/blockquote]
