It was the dead of night, the stars and the crescent moon offered little light for the weary traveler. She was exhausted. Her paws were weak and sore from her long travels to the Fukai Waterfall. Eden had heard many great tales of the pack from other lone wolves along her many journeys, but not once had she come in contact with it.
Throughout her travels, Eden was alone. She searched for something that was probably long gone and would never be retrieved. The femme could not go on. Eden needed a home, a family. Some where to belong.
She lifted her black muzzle to the sky, scenting the air. The faded scent of wolves reached her nose. She was close to the den. Eden sat upon a patch of fresh spring grass, resting and waiting for a passing Waterfall Pack member to approach. The wolf would not go near the den with out permission.

She had been resting, as she did often, especially since sleeping was out of the question. Baztek had once again gone missing, the main cause of her sleepless nights. She sighed to herself, once more unable to sleep well. She slowly stood, shaking the dirt from her fur and looking into the corner where she shared Bazteks warmth before he had gone. She held back the sadness that threatened to overwhelm her by taking a deep breath and calming herself. She was in no position to break down or show weakness, especially since Baztek was gone and she was the lone wolf who would have to go to the Sacred Circle and face her brother for the first time since her last fateful encounter with him.
She shook the thoughts from her head, not allowing them to overpower her like they had so many times before lately. She flicked her tail and adjusted her wings to a more comfortable position before looking to the entrance of the cave where the waterfall roared loudly. She took a deep breath and prepared herself before running wildly toward the cascading waters and bursting through them in a shimmering display of water droplets and mist. She always loved the feeling of bursting through the water and through the waterfall and never regretted having done so, even in the middle of winter when the waters were frigid and far below the freezing point.
She glided gently toward the waters edge and shook the damp from her fur, her white pelt a ghost like form in the pale moonlight and starlight. Her golden feathers and golden markings were dark against her fur but reflected with light when she moved a certain way. She looked around her surroundings with her blue orbs, which were reflecting the moonlight in a beautiful array of blues. She smiled and sighed to herself, the feeling of exhilaration dying off as she remembered the regretful and sorrowful things that were surrounding her at this moment. Brushing those thoughts away once more, she raised her maw to the air in a yawn, catching the scent of a nearby wolf.
She turned her head to face the direction of the scent and realized the wolf she was smelling was exhausted near to death. Masina, being the kind, passionate wolf she is, quickly made her way over and approached the wolf with caution, as to not startle. Her expression was one of pure caring and kindness and her words were the same way when she spoke.
"Do not fear. My name is Masina. I am the reigning Betess of these lands. I mean you no harm. You look like you could use rest and relaxation and perhaps a nice meal. I can provide that for you if you would like to join me. This is by no means a commitment to the pack, but more or less an offering as a friend. Should you wish to join the pack, you're more than welcome to. Know that we have no Alpha, but we still provide the maximum family and leadership needed to keep the pack alive and healthy." [/color] She smiled kindly as she nudged the wolf gently, pouring some of her own energy into the female in order to give her strength enough to not feel so exhausted and to have the strength to at least speak coherently and get to the waterfall den safely and effectively. She smiled and waited for a reply.[/blockquote]

Eden was utterly surprised when Masina padded out to greet her. Without pause, Eden lowered herself into a submissive posture, showing respect to the heavenly wolf she saw before her. Had she not known better, the wolf would have believed she saw an angel. When the female nudged her slightly, Eden felt rejuvenated. Her paws were no longer sore or raw and her mind seemed to become clear.
From her submissive position, Eden gazed up at Masina with her thankful and appreciative silver eyes. She could not believe how trusting the Betess was, it amazed her. Masina had already offered Eden a spot in the pack, and she didn't even know her, yet. Eden lowered her face once more, closing her eyes. "Thank you, Great Betess, for your kindness. I am Eden, a loner. I came here in search of someone, but I am to weak and weary to continue my search. I wish to join your pack to have a home and a family, once again. "[/b] The wolf lifted her great muzzle to face Masina. "With your permission, I would like to join your mighty pack."

Masina smiled as she looked the wolf up and down. She searched for any scratches or wounds that might require healing and continued to smile the entire time. If she saw any wounds, she would heal them and help the wolf to the den area where she could get a good nights rest.
"You're more than welcome to join this pack. There is some fresh meat in the den, caught earlier today, should you find yourself hungering. There is also plenty of room within the den and some small caves that go deeper into the heart of the mountain that you could use as your own personal room, should you wish it. Do you have strength enough to scale the sides of the cliff, the narrow walkways? Should you need assistance, I'm more than willing to help." She smiled again, kindness coming from her every posture and movement. She flicked her tail gently as she waited for the femora before her to reply and to see what she would have liked to do.
"It's also a beautiful night out here, should you wish to sleep beneath the stars. I can keep you company until morning when you have had some rest, should that prove easier." [/b] She smiled again, trying to make things as easy for the female as possible. She too, knew the weariness that exhaustion brought and how hard it was to do much else when you were feeling so weakened.[/blockquote]

The kindness that Masina offered so freely, confused Eden to no end. The Betess was treating Eden as if she had known her for a lifetime. She was making sure Eden was well fed, that she was not hurt or in pain. The femme was touched by Masina's concern.
Eden stood, still in a submissive posture. As if on cue, Eden's belly began to rumble. Eden looked away sheepishly. A blush rose to her face, although it was unnoticable due to her dark fur. "I apologize. I didn't hunt while journeying to you, Betess," Eden admitted. She shifted self-consciously, before continuing. "If you don't mind, I would enjoy seeing the inside of the den. I've slept under the stars many times, missing it once won't hurt. "
Eden offered Masina a smile, showing her excitment and happiness at finding a new home and family.

Masina smiled again and nodded to the femora before her. She had every intention of making sure this female was well taken care of, as she would for any of her pack members. She gestured toward the waterfall and spoke. "Do you think you can make it behind the waterfall? There's fresh meat and a nice place to sleep." [/b] She smiled as she waited for a response. She slowly turned and began to pad toward the den entrance, making sure the female before her was following and showed no signs of injury or collapsing from exhaustion, and led the way into the den and the sleeping area. "By no means are you obligated to stay in the pack forever. You may stay as long as you please. Know that you will be taken care of and provided for for however long you decide to stay with the Fukai Waterfall Pack."[/b] She smiled again and flicked her tail, her gold and white wings folded gently to her sides.[/blockquote]

The smile on Eden's face widened. She had found a home and she was already accepted by the Betess. It was the most wonderful night of her life. "Yes, Betess. I can make it on my own. Thank you so much, for your kindness. For all you've given me." Eden padded up to Masina, proving that she was in good health. The cool, wet grass cushioned her paws as she walked, a small crunching sound could be heard.
Eden stopped beside the Betess, and said, "You have no idea, my Betess, how much I appreciate what you have done. " Afterwards, Eden licked underneath Masina's muzzle, showing both affection and submission.
The wolfess padded forward, getting close enough to the waterfall for a few drops of water to land on her muzzle. Eden let out a small laugh as she pranced in the waterfall's spray, ignoring her hunger. The happiness that she was feeling overpowered everything else. She couldn't remember the last time she was so happy. Now, she could start over.
Out of breath, Eden stopped playing in the waterfall and looked back at Masina. If it was possible, her smile became wider. Her tail was swaying back and forth and her chest was heaving, slightly. Looking at the entrance of the den, she sat and curled her tail around her paws. Even though she was already accepted into the pack, Eden didn't feel comfortable with entering first. It would just take a little while to get used to it.

Masina smiled at her and at the wolf's happiness. She always loved to see others happy and loved to help to make others happy. She nodded her head kindly and followed the female toward the den area. She smiled and gazed at the wolf with happiness in her eyes as she watched her jump around in the mists of the waterfall.
She paused as the wolf sat down before her. "You're more than welcome to enter first, but if it puts you at ease, I'll go before you." [/b] She smiled and padded past the wolfess. She flicked her tail and turned her head in a gesture for the female to follow her. She barked a greeting to all of the other pack members who may or may not be in the cave at the moment, announcing the presence of a new wolf and a new pack member. She smiled again toward the female and motioned in the direction of the deer that was only roughly half eaten by the pack. "Please feel free to eat your fill."[/b] She smiled kindly and padded to a small corner of the den that looked as if two wolves shared it at one point. The faint scent of a male wolf hung in the air, but it was fairly stale. Masina sat with her head on her paws, watching the female in case there were any other things that she might have needed or wanted.[/blockquote]

Eden watched as Masina took the lead, putting her at ease. She followed the Betess, her claws clicking slightly with each step. As they entered the mouth of the den, Eden was bombarded by the many different wolves' scents. It was nice, comforting. At first sight, Eden couldn't see a single soul other than Masina. Perhaps they were asleep or off enjoying the peacful night.
When offered food, Eden replied,"Thank you, Betess." As Masina went to her resting space, Eden padded over toward the left over carcas. Her mouth began to water as she neared it. She took one last look at Masina as she bit into the deer flesh. Hunger began to naw at her stomach full force. Eden ravaged the carcas, biting and tearing at the meat savagely, compelled by her hunger.
It wasn't long before the carcas was bare, the meat devoured by Eden. The wolfess licked her lips and her paws, cleaning the blood from her black fur. She looked up at Masina and walked over. "Thank you, again, for my dinner. I believe I'll go to sleep now. It's been a long day." As Eden began to turn away, a scent caught her attention. She turned around again and asked curiously, "Do you have a mate, Betess?"

Masina smiled as she watched the female pick the carcass clean. She was glad that she had the ability to help yet another wolf out and have yet another wolf that would join her ranks... as she had slowly begun to call them.
When the female finished and approached her, Masina nodded at her statement about wanting to sleep... however, when she brought up the question of a mate, Masina held a pang of sadness back that tore at her heart a the very idea.
"Sadly, I do not have a mate... I was courting a wonderful brute, but he's long since disappeared, as he so often does. I only hope that someday soon he will return... But he's not one to stick around long..." [/b] She sighed as she flicked her tail behind her and gazed for a moment at the empty spot beside her. She missed the warmth he had provided for her in the cave and longed to have him near her once more.[/blockquote]

Eden visibly flinched. It was quite obvious that she had brought up a sensitive subject for the Betess. She felt a small pain in her heart, sadness. To have feelings for someone who was gone was something Eden new well. That was why the wolfess had left her original home. "I'm terribly sorry, Betess. I didn't mean to cause you pain. Please forgive me," she said.
Eden looked to the vacant spot beside Masina, obviously where the male used to lay. Eden could easily see the sorrow in Masina'a eyes. No creature, like Masina, should feel such pain. The wolfess walked over to Masina and bent her head. She rubbed her muzzle against the Betess' cheek, hopefully to show comfort. Her brothers had done that to her when she was sad.
She sat, curling her tail around her paws. "Would you like me to stay with you, keep you company? No one should have to suffer alone." Eden had done it enough to know. The wolfess laid down and placed her muzzle on her paws, still facing Masina. "If you like, I could sleep here tonight, so you're not alone."

Masina smiled at the kindness that this wolf possessed. She nodded kindly and replied calmly. "We need to talk about things that ale us, otherwise we can't heal from the pain it brings. Don't feel bad about bringing it up." [/b] She smiled again and curled her tail around her body, resting her wings gently to her sides in the most comfortable manner she could. "I would love to have your company. Though there is a pack here, they often spend much time on their own... I let free passage through here, so the members are free to come and go as they please, just as much as you are."[/b] She smiled again and was very grateful for the nuzzle that the wolf gave her in comfort. She gently pressed her nose against the females face in a sign of gratitude.[/blockquote]

Eden smiled. She was happy she could relieve at least a small bit of pain from Masina's heart. "I'm sure he'll return, someday. You're wonderful, an angel to wolves such as I. He won't be able to resist." The wolfess laughed lightly, lightening the mood.
"Tell me of the pack. How many are there? Are they nice?" Thoughts of the pack and of future events excited Eden. She wanted greatly to meet them all. She went off asking thousands of questions about them in hurried tones, wanting to learn as much as possible before their first meeting.
Although she was tired, exhausted even, she continued her excited questioning. "If you'd like to sleep, just say so. I'll be quiet."

Masina smiled and raised her head to look at the wolfess. "Well, last count, there were about three, including me... but that often changes with the free passing that goes on within these lands. THey're all rather nice and open to new wolves.. most of the time. Baztek was the only one that seemed in any way distant, but that was part of his charm." [/b] She smiled, thinking about the brute who had stolen her heart. "Anyway, there's not a whole lot to say about the wolves here, besides the fact that most of them were found injured in some way and that I took them under my wing in order to show compassion. I hate to see any wolves or creatures in any sort of pain."[/b] She smiled and nodded her head kindly toward the female. "You're fine. I don't sleep much more anyway."[/b] She nudged the female gently in an encouraging manner.[/blockquote]

Eden's smile widened. She nudged Masina back in affection. It was amazing, the time she spent with Masina. It was odd. Eden began to feel a sisterly love for the Betess. The love and caring Masina gave so freely, attracted her and probably other wolves and creatures, too. In such a short amount of time, the affection Masina gave her gave Eden the ability to trust her without any doubt or suspicion. That never happened before.
A thought occured to her, why did she stay when so many others left. It must be painful, to make new relationships and then to watch as they left. Eden knew she wouldn't be able to do that. What gave Masina the strength? "Alright! Umm, I have a question which might be too personal. Why do you stay? As you said, the wolves sometimes leave. What keeps you here?" You don't have to answer if you don't want to.

Masina smiled and listened as the wolfess inquired more about Masina. She chuckled slightly in a calm manner as she spoke.
"Someone has to be here should any of the former pack members return. There have already been two alpha's here since I've been here, which is not very long. They just seem to disappear, so I'm keeping track of the lands and taking care of things should either ever return. Not to mention, I really have no place else to go. And I like to help wolves that might come by looking for a place to sleep and a meal to eat." [/b] When she spoke of the previous alphas there as a slight pang in her heart. The first, Glaukos had almost been a love interest and the second, Ayuma, had been a great and strong leader... she missed them both and constantly wondered if they would ever come back. She flicked her tail for a moment and smiled at the female before her. She didn't know any other reason she stayed besides the idea of taking care of the lands and helping any whom needed it as they cam along.[/blockquote]

Eden inched closer to the Betess. She nudged Masina's cheek with the tip of her nose, and said, "Don't worry. I won't leave you and I'm sure the others will return someday." The wolfess was completely honest. She would stay at Fukai Waterfall for as long as Masina wanted. Eden knew how lonely it could get and she didn't want Masina to feel that way anymore. "I'll stay as long as you enjoy my company. It is an amazing thing you do, waiting for wolves in need of assistance."
Respect for the Betess grew in Eden's heart. She carried the weight of the world it seemed. Eden wanted to help her carry the burden. She would help as much as possible. "Why don't you become the Alphess? No one else has taken the position and it leaves the pack less powerful. You're smart and kind, I'm sure you could be a wonderful Alphess." Again, Eden was honest. Masina was brave and trusting, all the characteristics of a good leader.
Eden flicked her tail, placing her muzzle on the tops of her paws. Shifting her gaze to the mouth of the den, Eden could see a dim light. 'The sun's coming up,' she thought. It was interesting how time flied by. Using her silver paw, she gently rubbed at her eyes. Her eyes began to droop slightly, but she remained awake.

Masina smiled at the female before her and listened to her words carefully. She had often thought about being Alphess, but she wasn't quite sure if she would fit the part all that well. She looked at the wolfess and spoke.
"You look tired and the sun is about to rise. You should rest. We can continue talking once you've had a good bout of sleep. Rest, you deserve it." [/b] She smiled. She knew that sleep was vital to good health and she couldn't help having concern for any wolf, especially those who dwelled within the Fukai Waterfall.[/blockquote] (( Minor writers block... :/ ))

Eden's silver eyes began to droop lower as exhaustion took over. She shifted herself once more, becoming more comfortable. The wolfess wrapped her tail around her hind legs and crossed her front paws. A small smile rose to her lips. "Thank you, Betess. For all you've done and given me," she said as she drifted off into a peacful sleep.
((Don't worry, I understand completely. As you can see, I'm having a bit of trouble with it myself. ^^))

Eden woke as the sun rose high in the sky. She had slept for a good few hours and, now that she had rested, she was ready to explore her new home. Her eyes opened slightly as she gazed around the den. Masina was no where to be seen. Eden blinked a few more times, ridding the sleep from her eyes. Stretching, the wolfess stood and shook her black and silver fur free of dirt. With a few more stretches, Eden began walking around the den. Her nose to the ground, Eden inhaled the multiple scents of the other wolves.
A smile graced the wolf's lips as she began to recall the former day's events. Within only a few hours, Eden was able to find a new home, a family, and contentment. Her smile remained as the wolfess padded out of the den. Passing the beautiful waterfall, Eden stopped to glance at it's magnificense. The evening before, it had been to dark to see anything perfectly. Eden walked through the spray of the waterfall, laughing the whole time. She spent a few minutes simply playing in the misty spray.
Out of breath and panting, Eden trotted to the main part of the river. She lapped greedily at the cool, refreshing water. Her heart still pounding, she laid down in a soft, green patch of grass. She closed her eyes momentarily before reopening them. Lifting her head, she glanced around the surrounding area. 'Beautiful,' she thought. After finally catching her breath, she rose into a seated position. Her tail flicked back and forth with excitement and happiness.
