NAME:
Glaukos
NICKNAMES:
The Claw
DESIRED RANK:
Alpha-to-be of Swirling Mist Pack, resident of Fukai Waterfall
AGE:
5 years
LOOKS:
Glaukos is a large, powerfully built wolf. He has knots of muscles on his limbs and maw areas, but still agile and fast enough to evade a surprise attack while strong enough to deliver a stunning blow with one huge paw. The he-wolf has long, thick legs, and with them come a stride that can measure up to twice of a normal wolf¡¯s. His tail is thick and would be bushy had he not been of the water element and thus slicking it down with water. As mentioned, Glaukos¡¯ paws are large and strong, yet surprisingly deft, aiding him in hunts, battles or even scaling slippery rocks.
The he-wolf is taller than most normal wolves, even those of the same gender and species. He is old, but as wise as one could be, and age has not left a mark on him yet. Paws planted firmly on the ground, head raised high, Glaukos still looks like the Alpha he used to be: a figure of power.
Glaukos is badly scarred on his body, though most of the marks are hidden by his lush pelt. The more major ones are three parallel slashes on each of his shoulders, a jagged scar running over his right forepaw in the shape of a cross, and a raw spot on his right flank.
His pelt is thick and soft, as mentioned before, with a base colour of a deep watery blue. Upon this blue base there are rippling silver stripes that seem to be forever moving; indeed, for his stripes never remain still. Only the stripes under his eyes stay unchanging. His fur is like the sea: never still, not even when calm.
ELEMENT:
Water ¨C Able to manipulate water, walk on it, conjure it out of thin air, etc. He can cause water to condense on his fur, slicking it back, to make it smooth. He can also make water part.
PERSONALITY:
The large wolf strikes a stern figure to many. Once an Alpha of a pack, he still has not lost the authority he wore like a cloak. In fact, it is more evident than ever that Glaukos is a force to be reckoned with. His gaze is unnaturally chilling, though not to the point of criticising, always observing every single detail of the ones around him. He believes entirely in what he is about to do, never to be swayed by others¡¯ opinion. He might be opinionated, but he¡¯s often right.
Glaukos is the kind of stern, no-nonsense kind of wolf. He doesn¡¯t take anything from anyone. If he tells you to do something, you¡¯d better get to it fast. The ex-Alpha (or Alpha-to-be) has a set of rules that no one has ever broken. His demands are always reasonable, though. The wolf will never force anyone to go against their wishes unless need be.
Though he is firm and demanding, Glaukos always has the Pack he leads in mind. It is always the safety of the Pack first, the Pack before himself. His willingness to back his Pack up, or maybe even to sacrifice for them, makes him a good leader. He only has one fault, the fault mentioned before: once his mind is set, nobody can change it.
EYES:
Glaukos¡¯ eyes are a stormy blue-grey the colour of the raging sea. They have an omniscient glint to them as they observe every detail of the surroundings. The outer iris is lighter, purer blue while the pupil is a dark slate colour. The black around his eyes enhance the colour in them, making his gaze more vivid, more... burning. A strange adjective, but nonetheless describes the chilling burn one feels when he stares at one.
WINGS:
Yes, Glaukos has wings. Every member of his pack had wings. His wings resemble those of an eagle, broader at the base and thinning out at the ends. His feathers have an oily/metallic appearance, much like that of waterfowl, which enables them to keep dry and in condition for flight. At the tip of his flight feathers, there are streaks of silver and paler blue.
HISTORY:
Glaukos was born into the Crow¡¯s Wing Pack, the only son of the Alpha. The other pup was Llyr, a smallish she-wolf who was as meek and timid as her mother. He inherited the leadership qualities from his father Bloodcall, doubtlessly, yet he was nothing like him. Bloodcall was a tyrant, ruling over his Pack, pups and even his mate Nerissa. The great, blue wolf used his powers to rule his Pack, and his say is the final one.
By the time Glaukos was old enough to survive alone, much of the pack had divided into two parties. One, the smaller but more powerful party, followed Bloodcall¡¯s orders. The other bigger party, made up of the rest of the pack minus some neutral individuals, wanted to break away and for another pack to escape Bloodcall¡¯s tyranny. Glaukos led a rebellion against his father, sick of what the larger, older wolf had done over the years, and the Crow¡¯s Wing split up. Glaukos¡¯ new Pack won the rebellion, wounding some of those that supported Bloodcall and bringing his band of followers far away. The old Crow¡¯s Wing, though broken, is not quite entirely dead. They were strong, though few in number. Bloodcall himself had survived, and his rage turned him to seek revenge on his son.
Nerissa, who heard of this new decision, tried to stop the Alpha from attacking his own kin, but he would not listen. The larger wolf murdered her in a cold rage when she threatened to inform Glaukos. Llyr, seeing it, simply ran off into the night. Three hunters and warriors from the old Crow¡¯s Wing were sent to hunt her down, but she escaped their clutches, running into the unknown beyond and left Bloodcall without mate or pup. He turned his troops against Glaukos and his rebellion. He searched long and hard, but finally had to give up.
The reason was that Glaukos was quite far away by now, searching for a place to settle down. His crew travelled over grey, barren lands, snow-covered peaks and swirling deserts before finding at last a large plain with rolling hills and groves of trees. Here they set up a den, established a border and rechristened themselves the Swirling Mists Pack. The Swirling Mist lived for a year, unknown to the outside world as they were bordered by the desert on two sides and much taller mountains on the other two. The only other way into this sheltered land was through s treacherous pass between the mountains. It was here that Glaukos found a mate, Speedwings, who was bold, loving and sadly not very sensible.
And then the Starfall Pack came. Through the same way the Swirling Mist Pack came, they stole silently onto the plains during one dark, stormy night. The next morning, all hell broke loose. Glaukos led his wolves bravely against these intruders, but the Starfall Pack was battle-hardened and ruthless. Swirling Mist was soon torn apart, separated by a line of Starfall warriors, with Glaukos and his mate Speedwings on one side and what¡¯s left of their pack on the other side. The plan of the Starfall warriors was clear then: to single out the leaders of the Swirling Mist and kill them, then taking in those willing to join them. As the leader of Starfall rushed Glaukos with his elite troops, Speedwings bravely threw herself at the larger, brutish he-wolf and shouted for Glaukos to run. And run he did, tearing a hole in the defences of the Starfall ¨C to the other side, where he led his own Pack into the Starfall wolves. The two Packs fought in a tumbling, whirling mass of claws and fangs.
By noon, bodies littered the grassy plains like stars in the sky. The survivors of Starfall had retreated, leaving the few Swirling Mist members huddling together and nursing their wounds. Glaukos was caressing the broken body of his beloved mate, whispering to her, as if she was still alive. The last of the Pack slowly drifted apart in the following days, those that could move walking away into the mountainous regions and those that can¡¯t surrendering themselves to the icy claws of death. Only Glaukos was left alone on the battlefield, wounded heavily yet still alive and willing to fight.
In the next few months, the he-wolf and ex-Alpha pursued the Starfall Pack, finally tracking down and killing the Alpha and thus gaining the nickname of "the Claw". He left then to wander alone in the free-lands, the wounds in his heart slowly healing over time. The loss of his mate and pack made his heart ache, granted, but he overcame his sorrow and went on in life. And now he has stumbled onto the Fukai Waterfall. And then he knew that the Swirling Mist Pack may be reborn again.
