Has anyone looked into the recently released Sony Online Entertainment MMO: Free Realms?
The game was put out for the PC in late April 2009, and I joined in May. While Free Realms is geared for a slightly younger audience than most pay-to-play MMOs (World of Warcraft, Tabula Rasa, City of Heroes/Villains, etc.), it has the benefit of being free and easily obtainable via download (you don't need to purchase any initial software, unlike Guild Wars).
Free Realms has a class system, much like WoW; however, rather than commit to one class at character creation, each character is able to experience all available classes by scrolling through them during play. Hence, you might fight your way through one quest as a warrior and then conquer another quest as a blacksmith or a pet trainer. Characters level up these various classes individually by completing quests relevant to that class type.
Currently players have the option of creating either a human or a pixie character. The characters are fairly customizable, with a multitude of potential options for hair color, eye color, complexion, and facial markings. Pixies also have customizable wings; however pixie wings are non-functional (while pixies do "float" above the ground, they aren't capable of unhindered flight), and are primarily designed to add a little whimsy and color to the game.
In any case, if anyone is looking for a free MMO to give a shot, they might want to give Free Realms a look.
My main character is Chirplet, a pixie female. I tend to lurk on server 1. Let me know if you'd like someone to help you along, as I'd be glad to pop by and lend my assistance.
