His breath eased out of his lungs in a fine staccato beat that replicated the thumps of his paws. His nose pushed forward as he ran, long strides eating the ground. He really want to get done and get out. He had left his mate, heavy with pups, in camp and he didn't wish to risk being away when they were birthed. It would kill him to not be near Zephora during that time. He would probably not be allowed in the den, but being outside it would make him feel better, knowing that at any time if she called for him he was there. Now he felt uncomfortable, leaving his lands for the first time in nearly a year, and for something so important. Sure he could have send a packwolf, one that didn't have his position, but this was his news and since no alpha meeting could be scheduled, this was the best way. Alpha to alpha. At least they may believe him for this. There were many strange things in Aelyn, but biologically Lydia was the oddest, and now so were lucid and Mira, the crazed couple able to now wreak more havoc than ever. He sighed, worry over this new occurrence still darkening his mind though that particular encounter had been nearly two weeks ago. Not too long, but long enough. Kerrigan had made his decision and now he was fulfilling it.
He would make a stop at Fukai first, and then to Toko. Fukai was closer, the water areas overlapping on a corner of his territory, but only a small bit. He'd had to transverse to the driest part of his borders, across into the loner lands, and the into the woods that were still loner, but became the sparse trees of the waterfall pack. He carefully stepped over uneven patches, so used to the mushy wetness of his land that his feet sometimes drew up a little to high, the force of his tug up too much. Otherwise he moved rather well through this land, so different from his own. He had grown up somewhere like this, and so it was easy to fall back into darting around dress and through brush. He could only be thankful that it wasn't very thick or else he'd have a bigger job of it. He could already smell scent markers, though he was a good while away. Another 20 minutes at the most. He'd already spent the morning running here and he hated the idea of going all the way back this one day. He sighed, accepting it.
The afternoon sun was at least not hot yet, since Spring was still new and cool from winter. Clouds also provided some respite and it was a particularly nice day. A robins egg blue sky stretched above, filling the places the minuscule trees did not hide. He breathed in the hefty smell of pollen, his lungs unhappy with this turn of events, but not rebelling about it. Birds blared, rodents chatter, and all was well. He moved silently, as to not disturb as he headed toward the land owned by another alpha. Or alphas? He did not know. He had never met the leaders of the other packs, and only knew that there were three others. The two not owned by Lucid had been told as against him, or at least not with him. The best stories came from Fukai. But he did not know the names of the alpha[s?] and so he couldn't know their reactions. He was a little embarrassed at this lack of knowledge, but it couldn't be helped. His pack land had needed all his attention. He didn't have time for visiting others.
He came upon the scent markings, skidding to a stop a few feet from them, surprised the time had passed so fast. He sniffed, knowing this was a pack, recognizing 'Faller scent. He breathed for a moment, collecting himself and ignoring the twist of his hungry stomach. He was not nervous, he just wished this meeting to go well, since it was the first. He blinked his lime green eyes, looking into the pack land. His ears twisted forward, listening for any signs of approach before he lifted his muzzle to call. His mouth formed the song of greeting and of a visitor. Not a loners song at all. It didn't even sound like the notes of a lonely soul. They were loud and bass and strong, fitting to such a wolf as the alpha of Nigori Marshlands. He lowered his head, not saying much else in the wolven shorthand, just standing still waiting for some response. If none came, he'd head away, but he was pretty sure someone would answer.
ooc - for the alphas really. they post first. i'd prefer no pack members join, and as such haven't mentioned them. but masina can since she is a high ranking wolf if she is needed. felt i should get the ball rolling. could have done more with this post but i'm tired.

Though spring was just around the corner and the first beads of grass were beginning to poke through, the water from the falls were still icy as death from the recent melting of the snow. His muscular golden legs flexed as he walked by the banks of the riverside, glowing orbs watching the fast flowing movements of the river. Slowly, he dipped his elegant neck to sup at the freezing water, a supressed shiver standing the fur on the back of his neck on end. It certainly was a refreshing wake-up call.
When he returned to the den behind the great falls, he would warn the younger members of the pack not to go playing around the rivers, as they were fast and deadly. Older wolves should supervise the youngers when messing about, and though he was certainly a lighthearted wolf, when it came to the safety and the future of the pack, he was deadly serious.
Though he and Cinder had taken turns in looking after their offspring, watching them with love and care as they grew day by day, he still worried for their safety. They were never more than a stones throw away, and though they were growing, they still knew and cherished the protective wing of their parents. Bhrin was more adventurous, but never left her Daddy's sight, and Zan was quite happy to just laze around, preferring not to leave the warmth of the den, as though the ice of winter had faded, spring was still crisp and cold. Hopefully his son would be more active in the summer.
His tail flicked as he absentmindedly watched a fish swimming eagerly against the current, chuckling softly at its continuous efforts. It was an odd thought to think that he had once been as futile as that fish, a mere subordinate looking up to the beautiful enchantress that was Cindershock, his alphess.
Guilt stung his mind now as he thought of her, and how long ago it was since he last said he loved her. They were both very busy with the pups, but though Bhrin and Zan -little bundles of energy - and Puru with her new wings, were a new experience altogether, they still had plenty of time to spend together. He rembered with vivid clarity the last time he held her delicious scent upon his tongue, though this morning it seemed a million miles away.
Perhaps their little outcropping was no longer frozen. Perhaps they would visit it again soon, and even bring their little ones to see the spot marked by their love. He would take Cinder up there to watch the sun set and rise once more; some day soon.
An unfamiliar scent taunted his nostrils, breaking him away from his daydream. His brow furrowed with confusion, as the scent he picked up now was the scent of no loner. For a part his fur bristled with hostility, his mind instantly picking up the air of an Alpha and wondering if this was the infamous Lucidity. But then his hackles lowered ever so slightly. This wolf, though of a higher power, was not evil. There was no stench of freshly spilled blood upon his pelt.
Flexing his muscles for a few moments, Zephyr crouched back before taking a great leap forwards, his speed increasing as he ran towards the scent. As if in answer to the thundering of his paws upon the ground, the wolf - a brute now - howled, a howl full of authority yet equality. Alpha it certainly was.
It took him a mere fifteen minutes to get from where he was by the river to the border of his packlands, where the brute had stationed himself. Slowing his pawsteps to a walking pace, he drew himself up as the brute came into view. An intimidating wolf, he was black as night, with extreme lime markings dotted around his eyes and near his flank. The most prominent part of this brute's attributes had to be the great fangs protruding from his mouth, tipped with a neon lime green.
He slowed to a halt, a few metres away from the brute - enough distance to signify his wariness with the brute - and gave him a slow nod of the head.
"Greetings. I am Zephyr, mate of Cindershock and the proud Alpha of these packlands. Forgive my straightforwardness, but I need to know. What brings you here?" Though this brute did not seem to want any malcontent, he was wary of what he said to the newcomer. He had heard of the Lime brute that ruled the Marshlands, unfortunately the name slipped his mind for now, but his reputation certainly preceeded him. A fair if slightly indifferent ruler of the lands bordering Zeph and Cinder's own.
He had been cautious, mentioning Cindershock to the brute, he needed to appear stong and unified in his pack, two Alphas were certainly better in that aspect, but he left their newborns out of it, for fear of their exploitation. He had reason to be wary of intimidating newcomers in these suspicious times.
Words: 848 OOC: Zeph muse is Zephyrous xD. I was slightly stuck on what he would say to Kerrigan, so I hope he doesn't sound rude >.<

His audits flicked, listening intently for a response. Nothing verbal came, not even anything auditory. How odd really, to not even get a polite answer to his howl. While it was not necessary, it said he was worth the time of mind. Maybe these wolves did not want to know what he was doing. Maybe they had decided that he was a risk, maybe a Lucid type animal come to take over the lands. Right, like he wanted to deal with that. And he was alone anyway. If he was mounting an attack he would have brought more voices than just his. But he wasn't too bothered by the silence of wolf. Birds began chirping again, and a crackle of brush indicated a squirrel across the boundary. Good land then, really. Kerrigan's land didn't have too many squirrels, except on the try sides that sort of-almost bordered this pack and the forest one. But it was a healthy land, and even in this late winter weather it would provide well. He swished his tail, keeping himself firm and upright, expectant. No sound yet met his audits, but a sense of readiness had taken on the land and he knew someone was on their way. It was not a physical sense, but just one that most animals had. He couldn't really explain that prickly under his skin.
His nostrils flares, trying to see who was on the move, but the wind was not in his favor and just blew the opposite way. Well, at least they couldn't be surprised by him. Not that his howl hadn't given him away, but this was even better. He checked his position, knowing he was a yard or two from the scent markers, a respectful distance as he waited. Hopefully it was an alpha, and only one or two wolves if not just the leader. And hopefully these wolves were as understanding as the loners sad. Sure he could take on these wolves, no one could top his size, but he didn't want to deal with it. This was a talk, not a fight. He sighed out a breath, shifting his weight. He looked down, reaching with his nose to sniff the earth in front of him in an idle motion when the sound of paws met his lime ears. He lifted slightly, attention focuses a moment to discern what it was. Only one wolf, alpha by the sound. Coming to meet him finally. Kerrigan straightened, lime orbs scanning the woods for a glimpse of the wolf before he or she spotted him.
A flash of gold slightly to his left caught his attention, and he narrowed his field to it. Yes, that was the beast. A male, too, from the looks he could catch. Golden all over, like he was jeweled in it, the male made quite the image of riches and prestige. His wings were arched over, and Kerrigan gave him only a brief once over. His news was more important than a complete review of the male. But the other was of average size, with muscle. No pushover. The neon brute breathed in, catching a scent this time. Fukai smell, and the males on musky scent came to him and he recorded it into his memory, nameless for the moment. Ker straightened hi head, lifting it high, ears elegantly tipped up, snout parallel with the ground. His tail curled higher, the tip tickling his spine. He let his lime markings tone down a bit, not so frantically swirling over his sides. He watched with a neutral expression as the other took the last few steps and stopped, just inside the border. Kerrigan waited, but he didn't have long to do so before the male spoke.
Name: Zephyr. That was about all he didn't know that the male had said. As well as the name of his made. Cindershock. He let those be added to his mind before he thought over the other's question. It wasn't that hard of one, and Kerrigan was okay answering. But he wasn't going to stand out here like some intruder instead of a wolf of equal rank, jabbering everything. While he understood that was a paltry issue related to the news he brought, alphas had their pride in their packs. He cocked an ear back, eyebrow raising at the lack of manners, but also appreciating the straightforwardness. An odd back and forth over everything. Maybe he was over analyzing. "I ken well wha' yew call yerself bru'e. Since yew be no' poli'e enough ta remember yer roll, I will 'ake 'he firs' s'ep shall I? No' ta be rude, bu' I am no' a loner, nor a packwolf yew can command." Kerrigan's voice was kind enough, polite and non confrontational. But the male had taken a step to far in the rankings. Kerrigan was not below him, and the wolf would understand that. Fair treatment, and all that jazz.
Kerrigan snorted, ears rolling forward as he spoke again in his brogue. "I be Kerrigan, alpha o' Nigori. I come bearin' news I think yew would like ta know. Abou' Lucid. An' a way ta s'op 'im. If yew wish no' ta listen, I will leave, an' go ta the fores' pack. Bu' all packs agains' Lucid should be warned o' 'his. An' I hae heard yer pack was on." Kerrigan fell silent, waiting for a reply of some sort. No doubt the male might find him extremely rude, but the other had already bumbled the encounter in Kerrigan's mind. But nothing would go perfectly, and he doubted the wolf had ever been an alpha, or had ever met another one.

OOC - I know I'm not even related to thread, but you did ask for ideas xD Uhm, you could maybe have Cinder leave the pups under Masina's or some other trustworthy pack member's watch or something? o.o

At once taken aback by the brute's blunt comments, Zephyr's eyes widened with surprise before a wave of embarrassment flushed his cheeks, and he immediately dropped his eyes. Though he and Cinder had been Alphas for a decent amount of time now, when in the presence of an equal he was quenched pretty soon. This simple act of scolding made the golden brute realise actually how inexperienced he was as an Alpha. He should have made the effort to meet the Alpha's of the bordering packs beforehand, they could have helped him a lot. Now, standing here before Kerrigan; the majestic Alpha male of Nigori, he felt rather foolish.
However what Kerrigan had to say afterwards came as a shock to Zephyr. A way to stop Lucid? Was that even possible? He had heard the threatening howl that had echoed throughout the lands, heard it as it filled his heart with dread. Had it been just he and Cindershock, he would have been prepared for battle, but now he had more to lose. So much more, as Bhrin and Zanzibar were still only tiny, completely helpless and vulnerable. He wouldn't know what to do if they were put in danger. His mind drifted briefly to his two little pups, safe in the den with their mother. He smiled unknowingly, but that irritating spike of dread formed again in his mind as he thought of the threat posed by Lucid.
Still the Nigori Alpha brought a shred of hope to Zephyr's heart, and he smiled despite his earlier screw-up; if there was a way to defeat Lucid, then spreading the news was surely the best way to go about it. More helping paws would ensure the foul Alpha's defeat quicker. Silently he prayed that the Alpha's alone would be able to handle his undead threat, yet he feared in his heart that a few wolves would not be enough. There would be those more willing to join Lucid's ranks than try to stop him in his sick conquest for power.
He gave a soft cough, clearly unsure what to say. One of his paws scuffed up a tiny patch of dirt before he managed to find his voice, it having a somewhat embarrassingly high pitch to it before he tried to speak a second time. "I apologise. Forgive me for my rashness" He bowed his head, hoping that the other Alpha would see his apology as genuine. Finally, his golden yellow eyes managed to fleetingly meet the lime green's of Kerrigan's for a second, hoping this was the right approach to an equal.
"Any news on how to stop Lucid is appreciated news. I thank you for your consideration of us." He paused, his tail flicking out at a bug for a moment, considering his words before continuing "I imagine you have travelled far to bring us this news. If you need to rest at all you are welcome to a warm den with fresh food. I'm afraid we haven't had much time for hunting recently so our supply of prey is low, but you are welcome to whatever food we have to offer"
It was true that his recent obsession with his pups and becoming the perfect father, along with the turning of the seasons had dwindled their hunting sessions, but as the pups were growing slightly older now he would have more time to hunt. The prey seemed to be more plentiful, although already he wasn't as fast as he would have been, having been a babysitter for the past couple of weeks. It was a little sad really, and though he loved his two little ones dearly he hoped he could get back in the game soon, it was essential.
"Would you prefer to talk somewhere more private and away from suspicious ears? Many of the waterfalls would provide the safety and cover if need be" He offered, keeping his tone careful. Though Kerrigan had made it clear that he was against Lucid, Zephyr still wasn't entirely sure of his stance with the Nigori Alpha, so he was cautious. Just because they were both against Lucid did not mean they were allies. Each had their own reasons for defeating Lucid, and Zephyr knew no more of Kerrigan's reasons than he knew why the moon changed shape. It simply did.
Words: 737 OOC: I kept putting this off. I am ashamed at how long it took me to reply to this. So, here it is. >.< And Puru would be awesome to look after the pups I think, she seems pretty responsible, as long as she doesn't leave them alone xD.

((I might bring Masina in, since its been a while since I've posted with her, but I will most definitely wait for Cinder to post. Oh, and if its ok with everyone to bring her in. She would probably linger nearby, knowing the call of a visitor when she heard it, and would be waiting for summons to her Alphas. If no summons come, however she will probably just remain nearby. ))
