He paced: back and forth, back and forth. Black claws griped the ground in anger, frustration; twin-tails lashed behind, their white tips seeming like light streaks against the midnight black fur. Scouting was enough. It didn’t take Crow long to realize that his father just wanted him out of his way. And who could blame him? As a pup he was constantly at his father’s heels, no wonder he gave his son a task to be done at a distance as soon as he could take to the skies. He snorted in anger; his super-heated breathe hissing in the cold air as it rose high above as steam. Light wisps of steam gently rolled of his figure as his anger let loose his control over his power. The cool fall air couldn’t stand the heat of the brute, and the water within it hissed lightly as steam as it touched his fur. He had come to a realization this night, one that he should have grasped long ago. All the times, times he was scouting, spying, just as father commanded…all the times he was far away doing father’s work because he was the one, the only one of his kin who could fly at the time…because he was the one to fly away, and Tola was the one to stay, she had been the one to gain father’s favor. At least, that was how Crow interpreted it. She after all, was the one who greeted newcomers, who answered howling calls at the borders, who knew each and every member inside and out; like he should. It should not be her running the pack’s members, as rightful heir, it should be him.
Crow’s glowing pupils flashed every time his blinked, every time he changed direction in his furious pacing. He stopped his tall frame, a deep growl escaping from his large snout, and with it gasps of steam from his inner heat. With the tightening of all the muscles within his body, the son of Lucid’s maw shot into the air and let loose a ghastly howl. And from his open maw, steam erupted into the cold night sky, as if shot from a geyser. As the end of his call echoed in the distance, Crow smirked, looking to the sky at his fading cloud of breathe. He had always loved his howl. It was louder and longer than any he had ever heard, including Father’s. And he loved even more letting loose his heat along with it. The sensation of all that power erupting from his body, all at once…he supposed that it was what a dragon might feel like. But the smile quickly faded as the reason he called in the first place came back to mind. The Forest Pack, who before had been only ruled by a weak betess, timid and shyly, had now been claimed by a male. Crow frowned in his thoughts, wondering why father had hesitated in taking the land for his own while no other claimed it. And now it was too late. Well, perhaps not too late, but it would have been much easier before. Crow supposed he could have simply dropped in and done the deed himself. But Father had given no such orders, so he simply waited and watched.
He growled, ears flicking for any sound of who was coming to greet him. Crow wondered if it would be Tola. She was, after all, the one who always greeted him. Ever since he began these scouting missions, Father had never come in person to receive the information he presented. Sure, he saw Father at the pack gatherings, and scouting their own packlands, but…Crow heaved a tired sigh at the thought…because Father never came in person, it seemed as if he considered his son’s duty not worth his time. Crow’s tails flicked idly behind him. And perhaps…his thoughts of Father as a pup…were held too high… [/blockquote]

Like a shadow, a rather large brute made his way silently through his own claimed lands. His pawsteps made no sound as he walked... something that was an added perk on top of his newfound abilities. He smirked to himself, his glowing eyes watching his lands, prowling and taking in what damage his whelps of children might have done. Did they ruin the pack? What if they hindered his plans? He would have some fur if that were the case... but he shoved those thoughts aside as his newly keen senses caught a familiar smell.
Pausing only for a moment to leap into the sky, Lucid silently moved forward, his wings catching an updraft with ease as he hovered in the night sky above his kin. He circled a few times, silent as the grave, before landing a few feet behind Crow. He chuckled slightly to himself as his pawsteps made no noise upon landing. Lucid had changed... he was more powerful... and everything about him screamed power. He drew wolves in without even trying, though the entire time, there was the innate fear that he instilled upon his adversaries that screamed run away, you fool!
He spoke quietly, his voice calm and silky. "Greetings, Crow. You might want to think a little better of me if you want to gain my trust and my lands once I am gone." [/b] The last word came out in a slightly sarcastic sense, though only he and Mira would really know the sarcasm behind those matters. He held his head high, tails erect. His form was nothing but a shadow against the darkness, though the flames upon his paws seemed to crackle and dance, they caused not a sound... the creme collar that was around his neck stood out against his dark fur, the mid-tone of the blood stone that rested upon it, dangling slightly upon his chest, glinting ever so slightly with the frail moonlight. "So, you wish me to come find reports in person? And you wonder why I didn't take over the forest? You see, it was a test, of which you failed. My intentions were to see what sort of ambition you had... whether or not you truly knew what I would have wanted you to do. You were to find weaknesses, learn all you could... and interfere where you thought you needed to. And to think, you could have been an Alpha yourself... and we could have ruled alongside each other... had you just had the simple ambitions to claim the lands as your own."[/b] Lucid shook his head slightly, in a rather disapproving manner, before turning his glowing eyes to face Crow once more. "What do you have to say for yourself, Crow? I'm here now, so report to me..."[/b] The last sentence was a play on Crow's own thoughts, and was intended to seem as if it was. Lucid just chuckled slightly after saying this, waiting for his firstborn son to speak.[/blockquote]

The thick mane that rolled down the length of Crow’s neck stood entirely on end. Damn! He didn’t even hear Father’s footsteps, or even feathers in the wind if he had been flying! Was he really that into his thoughts? Crow hadn’t jumped, not even a twitch of a muscle as his alpha’s deep voice came from behind. The only movement his tall body made was the sudden rise of the thick fur on the length of his spine, and the widening of his glowing eyes in shock. He turned slowly around to face Father, and paid his dutily-respect by giving a low bow and closing his eyes. He did his best to think of absolutely nothing as Father spoke. He focused on a quick trick he had picked up while in flight – Crow’s eyes opened and he stared intently on a brown leaf at Father’s feet, concentrating on the image of it, on every single aspect of it. This way, Crow could still take in every word said to him, and still have a small sense of security. Not that he didn’t trust his father (did he?), it was only that the constant invasion of his mind made him feel as if he didn’t have one. Crow was quite impressed by himself to how easy it was to listen to Father while still focusing on the leaf; at least until Father mentioned ”weakness”.
Crow’s blue eyes shot from the leaf to his Father in less than a heartbeat. He stood abruptly, standing his full height taller than Father, not out of disrespect, but only because it was one’s nature to stand at their natural pose. He had to struggle to keep his frustration in check, and his heat beneath his control. ”…ambition?” His voice was cautiously dry and questioning. ”Father, if I may reflect, I recall you claiming once that going further than you command would belie your authority. I would have taken the forest-land in a heart beat had you indicated. I had indicated to Tola on one occasion she met me for my report, and I proclaimed to her that I highly suggest we take the unsupervised land while it would be easiest. Your orders were to wait, and follow them I did.” Steam began slowly creeping from his maw as he spoke. ”And in order for us to rule side-by-side, as you claim you wish to, communication and cooperation would be key. Anything that might contradict that would be a challenge to the other, Father. Claiming a land upon my own would do nothing, I could conquer it yes, but the claiming of it would have had to be done together.” Crow’s tails flicked as he stared directly into his Father’s empty eyes with empty eyes of his own. The ebony fae traveled swiftly through the air, her black nose, with a slightly brown tint, twitching from the cold air that surrounded her up in the mountain skies. She used her fluffy tail as a rudder to guide her to her destination. She had heard the alpha was back, and she wanted to meet the infamous brute, she had heard he was an evil character, but Carabella was a good judge of character herself. She was nervous, to say the least. The things she had heard were not good, and she hoped that he wasn't as bad as they said. She reached her mind out trying to find any sign of life.
Her mind reached one, a male, but not the alpha of these lands, he seemed to know the brute she was searching for, very well, to admire him, but was very jealous of him. A vat of emotions this male was, conflicted about his alpha. His son, if she had that right, his sister Tola had excepted her into the pack, as Lucid was away. She had met the alphess, Mira, and she could not see into the fae's mind, as she expected she couldn't do with the alpha. She heard his howl, a long lovely sound.
She hovered over the trees, silent as she watched her alpha, a black beast with three tails circle over his sons head, and land behind him, so silently he did not hear. She tilted her head to the side, wishing that she could hear them speaking, she flew a little closer, and changed forms, to that of a small bird, she perched high in a tree, but her little bird ears and small form, that was inconspicuous, could hear and see everything that was going on.
She watched, and listened, appalled, but somewhat enthralled. She flew away, and felt her body change once more, this one a little more painful as her form changed from small and hallow, to big and wolf-like. She flew back to the clearing where the two brutes stood. The femme let her wings snap closed and she fell through the air, and she flopped them open at the last second, but a second to late, her dramatic entrance ruined as she landed on her rump in a very unladylike fashion. She stood and shook, brushing off the red hot embarrassment. Her elegant head, with it's odd C marking on it twisted to the side, and her multi-colored eyes took in the sites as her mouth spread into a hesitant smile.
"Hello, umm, I'm Carabella" the words fell from her maw, and her lower lip found its way into her mouth, being chewed upon by her pearly white teeth.

As the steady wind ruffled Crow's thick black mane, it carried with it a scent of a third. His solid blue eyes narrowed, his bottled-up frustration slowly leaking out now that it wouldn't be directed upon his father. Twin, white-tipped tails flicked simultaneously as he took a step back, searching the skies. His keen ears flicked toward the sound of flight in the air, as faint as it was, and he growled as his glowing eyes searched for a target. The sound seemed that of a bird, but his gut told him otherwise. He took a quick glance at Father, know that he knew exactally what was out there because of that intruding mind of his. Snapping his attention back to the sky, Crow found it-her. Carabella, he didn't know her, but knew her to be one of the pack. Not having met her before, because of her terrible timing, she was about to present Crow with a terrible first impression.
Her 'adorable entrance had absolutely no phase upon him. She was small, both to him and Father. And if Father could look down to her, Crow certainly did. He might not have inherited his sire's ungodly bulk of muscle, but height was something he surpassed him in. The Carabella barely would come to the second joint of Crow's forelegs. She could probably stand underneath him without touching his underbelly. But as tiny as she was to him, she was, at this moment, the largest nuisance he had ever known. His eyes glowed a fierce blue as his ears fell back.
He didn't smile back, though in any normal circumstance he would have; it was truly unfortunate she had to meet him like this. Crow growled lowly in his throat, planting his feet firm on the ground to force himself from threatening her physically. "Have some respect!" He snapped, jaws clicking like a bear-trap. "You're interrupting!" Perhaps...he was more like his Father than he'd like to think.

Lucid listened to Crow, but was also picking up on the other listener. He smirked to himself, reading her every thought and knowing exactly what she was going to do and when. She was scared of him, of his reputation and what was said about him.. as well she should be. Lucid was one to be feared, especially in his new aura. He turned his glowing eyes to Crow, ignoring the female until she made her entrance, as Lucid knew she was going to do.
"Then perhaps you should have conquered it for yourself. A land for yourself, ruling under me. As you know, it would be quite difficult for one alpha to rule all of these lands, so only those who were to be trusted would be allowed to run a separate pack underneath me. Besides, you and Tola seem to fight so much for my approval, why not try to see how that would have taken you ahead of her? Put you in my favor? Yes, you were following orders, but that doesn't mean go outside the boundaries... sometimes, you will have decisions like that you'll have to make... which is another asset the obvious test that this was for you. Now, the lands have been reclaimed, but we can still claim them for our own. I can let you in on a little secret that not even Tola knows yet, should you so decide you think you can handle it and will obey what is asked of you, take into judgement what might be needed of you, and take what risks seem fitting to you." [/b] He raised an eyebrow at his son, a sly smile playing upon his large maw. This was when the female decided to make her entrance. Turning to her, his glowing eyes seemed to bore into her soul. Crow spoke up first, and Lucid chuckled to himself at how like him he sounded. A crooked smile fell upon his maw as he lowered his head so he was eye level with the female before him. "Dear Carabella... I'm sure you know it is impolite to eavesdrop, especially on an Alpha and his kin."[/b] A malicious grin sat upon his maw as his pupil-less glowing eyes looked at her, taking in her every emotion and her every thought. His voice was smooth as silk and had a seductive tone to it, his aura was both enticing and frightening... though most wolves would have no idea why. Everything about him made wolves want to both come to him and flee for their very lives. Smirking to himself, he turned his eyes to Crow. "She may be interrupting, Crow, but she obviously has some thoughts on her mind and an agenda of her own that she would like to meet. She was introducing herself to her Alpha. I assume you would want your pack members to introduce themselves to you when they could, right?"[/b] His voice oozed sarcasm and malice, but still held its silky and seductive tone. "As you already know, I am Lucid, Alpha of these lands. And might I say, if I catch you eavesdropping on one of my conversations again, I will punish you."[/b] His voice held no anger to it, but held a tone that showed he was not joking in any way. "Manners are of high standards, and you should know better than to eavesdrop on a higher ranking member."[/b] Smoke began to emit from his maw as his eyes darkened in color some, moving from a golden color to a burnt orange, his teeth shone pearly white in the pale moonlight and a faint glow could be seen between his teeth as fire forked its way between them. He had no intentions of hurting her... yet... but he was very much trying to intimidate her, to test her boundaries and her weaknesses, as he would do with any pack member. Any sign of weakness was not welcome. Power was the number one thing that Lucid held in high standards within a pack.[/blockquote]

As Carabella's skin flushed with her embarrassment she tried so hard to hide. Her head stayed tilted, but this time only slightly, it was an expression she wore often, she was careful to guard her thoughts, though she was sure the brutes had noticed her presence earlier, that she had been eaves dropping and such. Her ears tilted back a little and her eyes widened. She listened to the young male, whose name she did not know yet, thoughts, and realized eh was not happy with her interruption.
She heard his growl, and then his teeth snap together, and hers snapped in return before she could catch herself, her gorgeous eyes widened wider in shock at herself. 'Shit'
She instead of apologizing for something she was not sorry for turned to Lucid, who was making himself known as alpha quickly, his voice dripped like honey, sweet and seductive, yet malicious at the same time. Her overly expressive eyes narrowed this time, as even though she knew she couldn't, tried to break into his hidden mind. Crow was his name, Lucid had said it, and she was grateful for the incentive.
"Well dang" she muttered to herself so quiet that the brutes couldn't hear her. "Yes Lucid, I am sorry," she said putting her sweetest voice on, seeming small and innocent, small, yes she was, innocent, hell no. She knew that the alpha could here her every potty mouthed thought, but she did nothing to block it, if he wanted to invade her mind, he was getting full brunt of it.
"I apologize for interrupting, but I felt the need to introduce myself to my alpha for the first time" she said again, with her sweet voice, knowing that Lucid knew it was a load of bull poo, but smiled genuinely. She smirked at her own thoughts, she said nothing to Crow, he was mean to her. It was childish, btu she was going to do it anyway.

Crow had planted his feet consciously so that he would not move to tower over her as a threat, but as she snapped back at him, he nearly lunged in his anger. But just as his corded muscles tensed beneath his still body, it was Father’s voice that held him at bay. As Lucid spoke, Crow made a conscious effort to calm his small fury, concentrating on the mental image of the brown leaf, this time without physically looking at it. As Father spoke his name to her, he saw her eyes flick to him for a heartbeat. He snorted a plume of hot steam from his nose to further show his displeasure with her presence. Crow consciously had to still his tails from lashing like a cat behind him. His glowing blue eyes stared into nothing as he just listened and thought.
What Father had claimed certainly did sound enticing. A secret, a powerful one; to share with him. Crow was positive he could handle absolutely anything that came from his Father’s lips; especially since he was beginning to sense everything thing his Father spoke…to be a lie of sorts. Why, even now as he discussed with Carabella the ‘manners’ of the pack, and even the tone he spoke it in smelled to crow like the back-end waste of some large mammal. His ear flicked at a sudden thought. Father would have heard that, with his damned intrusive mind of his. But…Crow felt nothing about it, he…didn’t care? Didn’t care if Father heard his thoughts? That didn’t seem very intelligent, but nonetheless Crow couldn’t lie to himself, or to Lucid. Well now there’d be no hearing the secret. But…did he care? Nothing was different about Father anyways, though he seemed to act like there was something different about himself. Even Carabella seemed…”drawn” to him in an odd way. Whether Father would accept his thoughts or not, Crow doubted that he’d speak his secret before a mere pack member such as her. [/blockquote]

Lucid watched as the female before him spoke. He figured Tola had let several wolves that he would have to meet into his pack, but as long as they were strong, it was fine. Lucid loved power and strength and thought that a good pack should run on that. Power came in many forms, numbers... abilities... strength... and Lucid loved each one of them.
When the female had finished speaking, he gave her a small smirk and spoke. "Very good of you to introduce yourself. Is there anything else you need?" [/b] He looked straight into her eyes with his glowing gold ones and waited for her response. The entire time, as usual, he was reading each of their thoughts and listening to their surroundings and keeping his guard up... it was a common and natural thing for him to do. He heard Crow's thoughts, about how he didn't care if Lucid read his thoughts or not, which made the smirk on Lucid's maw grow slightly larger. Lucid flicked his tails behind him and waited for either of the two to speak... be it Crow or Carabella.... Lucid was still in contemplation about what he should and shouldn't say, or even if Crow deserved to know his plans... Maybe he would just tell Tola instead... she might be a little more appreciative. Lucid continued to smirk as he thought this. Or, perhaps Crow would show his interest and join him in his endeavors? He was, after all, his son and also was powerful, much like his father.[/blockquote] ((Crappy, yes, but I didn't know what to put exactly)) Reason for Editing: Making Post
