As her padded paws crossed the differently scented borders into the new territory, unknown to her normally keen mind, she sensed the strains of a forbidden love, one strenuous link within the area. A pang of a memory hit her, of a loved one lost, and the pain of childbirth racked her soul. She shuddered, black fur ruffling as she moved. The feelings were so real she almost felt them herself, but they were of others near here.
Though some of the memories were old, she still felt the pain, and felt she needed to aid the suffering, though it made her feel sick to resist, she preferred to think she had the choice in the matter. Forcing back her previous meal, she swallowed hard, and opened her startling violet eyes, gazing around her.
She knew were it winter, snow would cover this rocky mountainous area. A bird chirped in a nearby tree, and her ear flicked towards it as if dismissing an irritating fly. Her nose twitched, picking up the scent of water, and her mouth twisted upwards in a smile. Her tongue flicked out, whetting her lips as her tiny paws stepped cautiously foreward. It seemed a little too quiet for her likings, but then again something was always not to her liking.
Her tiny body bounced foreward as she suddenly started to run, her tail flicking out behind her in a fluffy blur. The tuft of fur covering her marking jumped a little as she bounded over a rock, towards the river that ran through the mountains. She licked her lips again as she smiled, leaning forewards to lap up the cool waters with her parched tongue.
She cocked her head a little to gaze at her own reflection through the rippling waters. Her mauve eyes seemed wider than normal in the river, and she frowned in confusion, watching the childish face frown back at her. Leaning back, she sighed, her breath making her fringe raise up a little, uncovering the silver star imprinted on her forehead.
She closed her eyes, screwing them tight shut, whimpering a little. The voices that cried out in pain never relented, and whilst she had managed to ignore them for a few minutes, even whilst she drank they haunted her. Always and forever. This was the reason she had to forget that she was just a puppy. Just a child, because she didn't feel it inside. All these fully grown emotions spilling over inside of her, they tore her up. Letting a snarl rip itself through her vocal chords and out her mouth, cursing this power.
"Why.." She whispered, not the first time in her life. Stop it. She shook her head. No more of these thoughts. She may be bitter, but never self-sympathizing. That was simply pathetic. Forcing a smile upon her face, though it did not touch her eyes, she dipped her head in the water, washing her face. Suddenly she threw her head back, yelping at the cold.
She shivered, shaking off the droplets of water on her fur. At least now she was slightly more awake.
