A gentle breeze whipped at long, cracked stalks, their masses swaying calmly in perfect harmony with the earth in a seemingly endless, timeless landscape. The radiant splendor of day was steadily fading westward with a brilliant show of colour, rays of pink and yellow streaking skyward from the black clutches of distant sierras. From the rotting boughs of fallen giants and the sprawling branches of ancient oaks, birdsong pervaded the peaceful rustling- the sound of life itself, nature in it's basest of states. But evening was beginning to give way to the creep of silent night; already a bone-chilling cold could be felt pulling away the heat from daylight with greedy claws as darkness slowly spread from beneath every rock and bush.
Tamaska's pelt had a certain glow to it, almost golden in the fading twilight. A soft whimper escaped her still form; she gazed solemnly over a bleak horizon with little hope to find another wolf. Night was already upon the landscape- another night spent alone in a makeshift shelter, but she didn't mind. She peered up with a sudden grin parting her jaw- a hawk circled on high, watching her with a nonchalant, yet welcoming disposition. She could feel the heart of the animal, it's own happiness bringing her the warmth she needed to make it through the cold of even the blackest night. With a shrill caw it swooped down, gently brushing across her mane with curled talons, then turned and flew away to it's nest.
A flick of her long banner, she waved goodbye to the creature with a flattered smile and turned to the relative shelter of the long grass. This would make do for tonight... Her legs buckled as she let herself fall to the floor, reveling in the warmth and security of her 'bed'. She kept her eyes and ears just above the level of the grass, almost blending save for the mask upon her muzzle, as she scanned the plains for signs of life. None other than that hawk... Her tail curled across her paws and over her belly- it had it's use as a blanket of sorts, and she lowered her head to a niche just in the bend of it with a soft sigh.
Perhaps tomorrow would bring her better luck, and better prey...
