and she sang
Her voice reached peaks of emotions, stretching out across the land, telling all who would listen, of her story of woe. Her own flesh and blood taken from the earth, her strong pack now in ashes. It was a grueling tale, the death of so many right before her eyes, the knowledge, or lack there of, that one might have survived the attack. Her bones from her back stretched far to the heavens, the skeleton creating thin lines of shadows in the dwindling sunset. She did not howl to the moon, for the moon, she howled for her pain.
It had all happened so fast, and she had yet to discover any happiness other than what she had felt in those few days with her newborns, the way they each resembled a piece of her. Death; his looks against the darker side. Acid; feisty and his saliva dripping with acid. And Decay; his bones showing as her skinless wings did. The pieces brought into this world by and ignorant brute who abandoned them, yet she still loved them with her very being.
but it died
So here she was, her black fur glinting with red, her eyes shifting color. The spikes upon her hips and shoulder quivering with the vibrations of her voice. Her maw, marked with her name, DILIVI, raised towards the endless sky, calling for her life to be put back in order. She dipped her muzzle to the ground, a few tears sliding forth from her eyes. But she raised it high again, just like before.
and she sang a year ago but it died

He stood in the shadows, watching the strange wolf, listening to her soft, yet harsh mourning howl. It ached his heart a little to hear her howl so. She must be grieving for something very precious to her to make her howl in that way- he assumed it was a she due to the slightly higher tone in her vocal chords. Still he watched from the shadows, not wanting to be seen.
She seemed so meloncholy, yet so strangely serene and beautiful in the lonely moonlight. He wondered what must have happened to her to make her so sad. A part of him wanted to be there for her, a shoulder to cry on. But he was too cowardly. He didn't even know this wolf and he was spying on her like a sneak, a thief. A thief of dreams, his mother used to call him. Because he was born he stole his mothers dreams. Perhaps she was right. She seemed to be right about too many things lately.
His tail swished from side to side as he pondered about leaving. Yet as he began to turn, his clumsy paws decided what he was to do for him. He lost his footing, and crashed forward with a great thump, sprawling out into the moonlight in a heap, his tail trapsed over his tangled legs and he sighed with embarrassment.
"Oh...I'm sorry miss.." He managed to stutter, humiliation dying his plain grey cheeks a rosy pink. He struggled to untangle his legs from his tail to make a quick getaway before she thought he was spying on her.

that night
Her song quieted, if only for a moment to catch her breath. Her heart quivered for the song to continue but she felt drained, her body exhausted from the howl. The bones protruding from her back flexed out and she lifted her maw, letting the slight wind cool her face. The spines along her back flattened down and her audits flicked backwards, her eyes closed. She could still feel the burning on her maw and shook her head to clear her thoughts- even if a little.
he came
The other wolf appearing was so sudden that her eyes snapped open, her golden pupils and black iris' locking onto her wolven breatheren and her wings flattened against her back. He spoke, the words reaching her ears and swirling around with vigor inside her head. Each letter was analyzed with such presicion that it was like a disection of the utmost horrible kind. But her face was calm as she looked upon the strange brute, her demon-colored eyes softening in their gaze upon him.
and she wondered
She shuddered, her thoughts daring to excape through her mouth, but she held her tongue and sat her rump lightly on the ground, her wings and spines folding against her body as tightly as they could as if they would protect her from all harm. "It's fine. Company is good. Do you sing for anything?" She asked, ignoring the voice inside her head that screamed at her for being childish, for even thinking someone would accept her for anything more than dirt. Would this varg hurt her as many had before?
that night he came and she wondered

He kept his head low, breathing slowly. He was worried he had scared her, it had happened many a time before in his family, he would trip and surprise a member of his family, they would shout. Then a blow. He flinched a little, nothing came. He had to open his eyes and breathe out a heavy sigh of relief to remind himself that he wasn't there anymore. He was here. Where was here? He didn't know just yet.
"Fine? fine? Oh..ok then" He repeated her words just to make sure they were true. He sounded like a complete idiot but he had to make sure before he made a stupid mistake. His gaze wandered to the boney wing structure jutting out of her back before it returned to the grass upon the plains. He still marvelled the gift of flight, no matter what type of wing there was, he wondered for a moment what it would be like to feel the exhileration, the wind through your fur, the feeling of being limitless...
He had drifted off. He realised that when he saw her looking at him. What had she said? Singing? He had never tried.
"I've...never tried" He repeated out loud feeling very stupid for saying it. But another idea dawned upon him after he finished talking.
"Perhaps you could...teach me?" He asked, lifting his eyes but keeping his head low, watching for her reaction.

her eyes
Her optics searched the new brute for any signs of hostility. After all, it had been a brute who had turned them over. An alpha of a pack they had been in alliance with. He had turned over their pack to the ravenous brutes who had killed her cubs. Her wings spasmed quickly with the thought of her offspring, scattered and tossed like nothing more than playthings.
said she wouldn't
She always told herself not to let the memories get to her. That she could always have more pups. But she knew it wasn't true... that she would always remember those three. Her first pups would never be replaced. She always told herself that she would find another mate. That she could then have beautiful pups and she would be happy again... but she knew, somewhere, that it had been rare that anyone had wanted to be near her before. That one time, may have been her slim window to gain love, and it was long gone- dead.
that she couldn't
The brute spoke to her once more and she smiled, the scar of her letters moving with her skin. Her black pelt twitched as the muscles moved and she stood, taking a stance and facing the new wolf. "I can't teach you. Singing for something is to look deep inside yourself. You first have to figure out what it is for, and then how you feel about it. Then you have to let these feelings transform into the song and show the world." She explained, her tail gracefully sliding back and forth. Her odd eyes looked over the brute once more, deciding that he was safe. [/blockquote][/ul]

He stepped back a little, surprised by her answer. Perhaps how to sing was something he'd never learn. He pondered for a moment over her words, thinking them through. Closing his eyes, Mahli thought of his past and the repressed sadness of all those years caught up with him. His eyes started to water beneath the lids, threatening to spill over.
He saw his brothers and sisters, laughing as they pushed him against the rock, whacking him about. Then, in a flash of red, he saw his mother, her snarling, scowling face looking down upon him. Like so many times before, her paw swoops towards him- not for comfort or for love- her claws extended as the pictures fade away.
Opening his eyes, Mahli took one look at the fae- whom was regarding him with a rather forlorn look upon her features- took a deeo breath, and howled. It was a pathetic thing really, not loud enough to be a proper howl, more like a loud whine tha anything else, but it was the pure note of regret that made it special.
He lifted his head back and howled again, forever regretting that he never had the courage, never had the nerve to stand up to his own family. His own flesgh and blood that so scorned him because of the azure mark that sliced through his underbelly like a large blue knife.
He dropped his head as soon as he was finished, looking questioningly at the fae.
"How was that?" He asked quietly, nervously, his tail swishing quickly.
