It was time.
Time to step up and bury the self-consciousness that consistently battered her through the entirety of her existence. It was time to destroy that very fibre of doubt and distorted feelings that seeped into her everyday life. Ever since she was a small pup, Aquiel secluded herself from wolven society excluding rare occasions when she hunted for food or just needed to get away from everything. At times the very thought of social contact made her nauseous; however, Aquiel knew that there would be a day where she'd have to face that harsh reality and force herself to make something of her life.
As rain pattered on the surface of a dead still pond deep within the Nigori Marshlands, Aquiel raised her blue hued head out of the water and faced the overcast sky with her glowing sapphire eyes. She couldn't help but to linger on the painful memory of her childhood abandonment. Aquiel's parents' fear of being ridiculed by other wolves due to her physical difference drained from their genetics into hers at birth---cursing her with the fear of her outward appearance.
Uneasily, Aquiel turned and watched her dolphin like tail raising out of the water slowly. This was the infamous defect that struck fear into her parents---this difference ignited so much misery in her life despite the fact that it gave her so much unique exotic beauty. Contrary to her parent's beliefs, Aquiel's sleek blue colored body was coveted by every female wolf and lusted over by every male. Even though she found a great deal of flattery out of the wolves that adored her beauty, Aquiel found absolutely no appeal in her physical self.
Quickly, Aquiel disregarded that negative outlook regarding her life when her mind pondered about a dream she had several nights before. She could recall the images vividly....the white light, the warm breath of life brushing against her water-repellent fur. It was almost as if an ancestor reached down from the heavens and pulled her into the spirit realm. The figure of a fully grown wolf with butterfly-like wings appeared before her and uttered the words:
"You were meant to do great things, Aquiel. Be the wolf you were always meant to be..."
The words that echoed in her mind gave the aquatic wolf goosebumps as she recalled the exact feeling of building confidence.
"Meant to do great things....be who I was meant to be..." Aquiel re-stated to herself as she raised more of her body out of the water---allowing the liquid to pour off from her fine silky fur.
There was nothing Aquiel ever knew than loneliness, and it was very conflicting whether or not she should take to heart this wolf's advice. Granted, part of her knew that she had to, or else she could lose the perfect opportunity to make something of the meaningless life she hosted.
With a bit more fearlessness, Aquiel raised herself out of the water completely and stood on the bank of the pond staring at the area surrounding her. The rain had caused the Nigori swamps to be very foggy, which concealed everything except for the wolf's mystic sapphire eyes.
Who could she go to for guidance? Who could help her become something more than she already was? It was Aquiel's dream to become part of a family that she never had the luxury of having. And there was only one wolf she could think of that could give her the help she needed.
"Kerrigan...I must find Kerrigan..." Aquiel pranced forward, releasing a peculiarly unique howl aimed at the leader of the pack, hoping that she'd attract his attention.

A silent stalker lay hidden beneath the marshy undergrowth that littered the lands of the marsh... piercing amber eyes peered from the darkness at the blue hued wolf before her. She flicked her tail and padded forward, her pawsteps barely gracing the lands and causing no sound at all. She moved with unnatural grace and poise as she stalked the female wolf.
Silently, she wondered if this would be yet another wolf to join the ranks of the Nigori Marshlands pack. So much for scouting.. it seemed pointless now as Lydia had discovered yet another loner treading the lands that belonged to the great alpha Kerrigan. She padded forward, completely downwind of the female to mask her scent entirely and to be able to sneak up on her much like she did the previous two loners who had made their way onto the lands.
Silently, she came up behind the female, not making a sound, though her scarf did billow around her dark black and crimson form, even when there was no wind to be found. She smirked to herself and spoke from behind the female.
"Greetings, Loner..." She said, her voice smooth as silk and holding a certain mystery to it... It was both entrancing and foreboding at the same time. Her form remained unnaturally still, often when she sat this way, it would instil a sense of unease to the wolves she was around, only because it was so unnatural the way she remained statue-like... though, that wasn't the only thing that seemed unnatural about her... everything about her made her seem unnatural.. her size.. the way the non-existent wind seemed to caress her fur and her scarf... even her very presence seemed unnatural and enough to chill the faintest hearts to the bone.
Amber eyes pierced through the female before her.

Being startled by this mysterious wolf speaking from behind, Aquiel released a sharp yelp as she flailed her tail around swiftly hitting Lydia directly in the face.
There was nothing more the aquatic wolf hated more than being startled by another creature. It had been so long since Aquiel had made contact with a wolf that being in the simple presence of another seemed overwhelming to her senses. After spending a life alone in the wild Aquiel knew that there could be danger lying in the midst of any shadow that prowled---and to her Lydia seemed to suit that label quite well.
"Greetings, Miss Shadow..." Aquiel sarcastically retorted as she regained her senses and made an attempt at calming herself down. "That'll teach you not to sneak up on someone with a fin tail..."
After a moment of composure, part of Aquiel felt sorry for what she had done, it was often that she reacted violently toward others. In fact violence was something she tried her hardest to steer away from unless anger took her. Which with her fiery attitude, snapping occurred in the midst of fiery fury.
"Forgive me."

Well, that wasn't the first time that had happened. She had often been swatted at, batted at, attacked and many other things when she prowled toward her unsuspecting targets. However, the blow to the face barely phased her as she continued to sit stone still. If anything, the females tail would be slightly bruised against the hard stature and body that Lydia possessed.
Lydia chuckled to herself as the female's temper grew. My my, she was a feisty one... more fun to play with! She snickered at the female... and even her snicker seemed almost entrancing and foreboding at the same time. She was surprised that this female wasn't even the slightest bit curious about the large female that sat before her. Lydia continued to sit unnaturally still, her very posture unnatural from the tips of her ears, down to the scarf that was round her neck, to the piercing amber eyes that graced her face, down to her paws and their long, dagger-like white nails.
"My my, you have quite the temper, don't you? Temper won't serve you well with me... You'll have to do better than flipper back there in order to intimidate me." She said smoothly, her voice calm and cool as ice. It was a beautiful silky tone that could entrance even the most absent-minded wolves.

Aquiel's eyes widened at this wolf's obvious over-abundance of arrogance. Part of her could tell that she was older than most wolves by a type of vibe she gave off. Granted there was something she found particularly appealing by this wolf. By looking at her, Aquiel realized that the same kind of unearthed loneliness tainted her heart much like it did to her own. However that did not negate the fact that that deep sense of being was hidden under tons of overconfidence.
"The tail slap wasn't meant to do much damage. It was only out of self-defence. And instead of proceeding with some witty banter with which I'm sure you'll end up conjuring since you seem to be the type that enjoys a clever retort or two...I'm just going to ask your name. What is it?" Aquiel questioned as she wrapped her fin around her body and sat down.
Aquiel only feared her physical defect in the eyes of other wolves; however, in this situation that seemed to be the last thing on her mind. She mostly felt a hint of intrigue wafting over her emotions as she scanned this peculiarly mysterious wolf. There was something that Aquiel adored about her....but she could not figure out what that was until she became more acquainted with her.

Lydia snickered even more at the words the female spoke. She remained unnaturally still, not even seeming to breath as she watched the female before her with amber eyes that could strike chills into the spines of many. She grinned, her fangs showing even more underneath her lips, more so than they normally would when her mouth was entirely shut.
"Names are such powerful tools. Perhaps you should give me yours first in order to show a non hostile nature toward these packlands that you trespass upon." Her words seemed almost very persuasive in speech as she stared deeply into the eyes of the femora before her, her gaze never leaving the females. Her only movement was the graceful motion of her mouth as she spoke... her words silky with mystery and enticement.
Her tail remained wrapped around her paws, her wings sitting gently at her sides... if the female before her hadn't just been talking to her, one might think this was a shadow in the trees or an inanimate object with how still she was... she didn't seem to breath... she didn't seem to blink.. she was just still, as if she were attempting to dig deep within the mind of the female before her... almost.

Aquiel rolled her eyes when she figured that this wolf would ask her a reverse question. No matter though, if that's what she wanted Aquiel felt as though she might as well humor the poor wretch.
"My name is Aquiel." the blue hued wolf whispered as her eyes sapphire glow pierced this wolf's shadowy figure, "And...for your information I'm not trespassing here....and even if I was I find it really funny that I've lived here my entire life without anybody noticing."
Aquiel felt partially offended that this wolf had not seen her throughout her 3 1/2 years of existence in the Nigori Marshlands. Apparently she had been truly forgotten by everyone and everything which did not settle well with the flipper wielding canine.
Aquiel noticed just how still this wolf seemed to be---not a muscle moved in her entire body. Oddly enough, Aquiel knew that there was something a lot different than most wolves. One of her favorite things to do was finding out the secrets of other wolves, and she enjoyed a challenge.
"Grace me with your name, please."

Lydia listened as the wolf became slightly flustered. Oh, Lydia had often scented this wolf around.. after all, Lydia had been within the lands much longer than any of the other wolves here, save one or two of them. She sneered to herself as she leaned forward ever so slightly. "My dear.. I never said I didn't notice you here... I merely said you were trespassing... you don't own these lands... there is already an alpha here..." Lydia smirked at her and returned to her sitting posture.
The large, shadowy wolf didn't seem to need to breath as she spoke, though she had to be, right? No wolf couldn't go without breathing... could they? She remained silent for a moment, allowing the full force of her oddities catch up with the blue toned female... and she spoke once more.
"Lydia is and always will be my calling. Call me by anything else and I might have to kill you." Her voice was calm and smooth, silky as ever, but there was a slight feeling to it that gave the impression she wasn't kidding. She smirked again as she thought for another moment to what the female before her had said. Lydia continued to hold her searching amber gaze on the females blue orbs and waited for a brief moment.
"My dear child... do not humor me with how long you've been here, for I can assure you, I've been here far longer than you have." She chuckled slightly as she sat stone still. Something about her seemed want to draw the other wolf in, yet scare her away at the same time... and of course, why would it be any other way? She was a vampire after all.. the most fearsome predator on the earth... who knows what Lydia could be fully capable of...
Her white scarf billowed around her, though no wind was to be found. Her fur moved with an invisible current, though said current was in and of itself non-existent... Her form sat, inquisitively, and waited for the female to come up with yet another retort.

Aquiel wore a half smile on her face as she listened to the quaint words of the female before her. Throughout the entirety of the conversational exchange, Aquiel though of nothing beyond possible snide comments she could retort with. The main thing that jumped out at her was the implication of Lydia's age---and she completely disregarded the remark of her trespassing.
"Oh please don't humor me with your agedness my dear...I can tell that you haven't been a spring chicken in many....years." Aquiel smiled incandescently as she joked, even though she did wear an expression that made it look as though she meant it in a more playful manner than an insulting one.
Aquiel then laughed slightly as she flailed her tail fin about playfully, enjoying the personality of this Lydia. If there was anything the aquatic social dissonant wolf didn't understand, it was why many of the wolves she encountered tried their hardest to make themselves seem strong and intimidating---a trait she could obviously see in Lydia.
"It must be common around here to make yourself look big, bad and tough. Are you compensating for a lack of something in your life?" smiled Aquiel as she cagily eyed her new acquaintance.

Lydia sneered at the female as she spoke. She seemed so sure of herself and so stuck in her ways that she almost seemed stuck up. Lydia wouldn't put up with a pretty little princess and she would make it known... one way or another.
"My my, don't we think we're so high and mighty all of a sudden, making jokes about my age and whether or not I am as tough as I seem... someone must think she's a quaint little princess now, doesn't she?" Lydia sneered back at her as she flicked her tail slightly. She didn't need to make movements, but she just did them out of habit to make others seem a little more comfortable in her presence. She felt that this female wasn't going to go anywhere any time soon, so why not act more... normal... than what she had been acting lately.
"What makes you think I'm compensating for something? I'm not the one with a deformity that makes me stick out like a sore thumb. At least I can fit in with normal wolves a little better than you can." Lydia always found sore spots in wolves and poked them... in a way, she believed it made a wolf stronger to be slapped by the things they thought were the bruises in other wolves lives, and this is what she was trying to do with Aquiel. She knew very well what bothered Aquiel the most, even without having to read her mind... she had been around long enough to see things that many wolves wouldn't know she'd seen. She has seen many things happen more than once as wolves died and became reincarnated and reborn... she could see many things happening again. Previously, she'd met with Masina and Lucid and many of the other wolves here in their past lives... for she's been around for several generations of wolves, though her outward appearance wasn't more than 6 or 7 years.
If this Aquiel was going to join Kerrigan's pack, she was going to have to face her deformity one way or another. Not that she wouldn't fit in with them... what with Kerrigan's tusks, Lydia's vampiric traits and some of the others unique qualities... no, she would fit in quite well... she just needed to finally get over her fear and suck it up.

Aquiel let out an elongated laugh once she realized just how similarly both her and Lydia behaved. The utter hilarity in the shadowy wolf's hypocrisy nearly made Aquiel bust her gut. If there was one thing she enjoyed finding in other wolves, it was their fatal flaws. Aquiel knew that she had plenty of her own, and some of them were sore spots; however, at the current moment she didn't let them get to her. After suffering a life of being belittled because of her defect, she had grown used to such treatment. In fact, she could see that Lydia was simply trying to get the upper hand in the little banter because she didn't enjoy being put in her place. Especially by a wolf who's life didn't begin so easily.
"High and mighty? Oh I know I'm not high and mighty, besides if there's anybody who thinks that here it must be you...Floating in here thinking that your age justifies just how amazing you are." Aquiel took a deep breath and let out a sigh in the sight of Lydia's feign wisdom. It was obvious that Aquiel had hit a sore spot.
At the same time the aquatic wolf revelled in the fact that her confidence seemed a lot more mature than it did when she was younger. Now she was not afraid to stand up to other wolves; even though sometimes she still felt a little bit intimidated in their presence. Aquiel; however, did not feel intimidated by Lydia---she was just as peculiar, mysterious, and alone as she was.
"Awww...I see we're getting agitated enough to start slinging mud. And you're right...maybe it hasn't been easy for me fitting in with other wolves---granted I can't imagine why it has been easy for you especially since you look as lifeless as a swamp rock." Aquiel flicked her ears slyly, and her smile seemed to grow as much as her confidence was.
"Do you have anything else better to do with your time than argue with passing wolves? Come now Lydia! Lets talk about something more interesting!" Aquiel rapidly changed the subject, lingering on a certain topic made her grow weary, a very prominent trait of her fiery and water personality that seemed to contradict itself.

Lydia seemed unfazed by the by the aquatic wolfs pathetic attempts to make her lose her cool. She remained calm and curled her rather large tail around her paws.
"I never said my age was a justification as to how amazing I am. I never even said that I thought I was amazing. These are all things that you've said yourself... I never once hinted that I thought that. I was merely pointing out the fact that you had said you had been around for so long.. I was pointing out the fact that I know how long you've been around. It's not like this is the first time I've seen you." She shrugged the idea off and glanced around the area around her. She turned her scalding amber gaze back to the wolf in front of her and pondered. Lydia had always wondered what the blood of another wolf tasted like... she had long since forgotten the taste after so many years of hunting animals. Perhaps she would just drink this aquatic wolf dry to shut her sorry mouth.
Thinking all of this very quickly, she decided she would hold off a bit longer.. prolong the females chances. She thought more about what else the female had said and decided to comment on that. "Funny you should mention lifeless. You think that bothers me in some way? Honestly, you must be running out of insults if you think that's going to bother me." She chuckled to herself, her voice holding and maintaining with unnatural ease its silky smooth tone. Her voice would almost seem as if it were one that would draw in her prey and convince them to do whatever she wanted. It was whatever she wanted them to think it was... it could be easily mysterious, seductive, enticing, entrancing, hypnotizing.. the possibilities were endless!
"I hadn't started arguing here. I had merely come out to greet a loner on lands that were not her own as a pack member representing the Nigori Marshlands. You, my dear, have decided to make this into some pointless argument. I am merely speaking in response to both your outward self and the inner self that you're so easily revealing." She smirked at the female and curled her tail around her paws again. She wasn't easily upset and she could hold her composure with magnificent ease.

Aquiel rolled her eyes and took a frustrated breath as she slammed her fin on the soggy ground impatiently, growing tired of the topic at hand.
"Well since I am....apparently trespassing...why do you think I was calling out for Kerrigan? Maybe I was wanting to join this pack." Aquiel stated, jumping directly to the point and not wanting to lag any further.
Aquiel always knew that the first wolf she'd encounter when she finally mustered the courage to enter wolfdom would be a unique one. She just wished she knew how to persuade Lydia of her trustability. After being alone for so long, Aquiel craved some sort of friendship. Since Lydia seemed similar to her in at least a few different ways, she was the first on the potential friend list.
"I never said I was worthy enough of knowing who you are...." Aquiel's tone completely changed from snide and conniving to calm and caring, "I'm sure part of you, like every other wolf wishes that you could be open with somebody....bearing secrets often causes burdens. It's almost as if you have some sort of detrimental secret that you don't want anybody to find out about..."
Aquiel clearly did not mean any harm toward Lydia. All she wanted was to find some sort of friend to comfort her in her time of loneliness. The aquatic fae noticed that loneliness was a common variable in Lydia's life, she didn't have to say anything for her to know that much.

Flicking her tail, she listened to Aquiel. Sure, all wolves had their secrets, but that didn't mean they were meant to be shared. Lydia's wasn't really a burden... but more of a safe-lock because of the things that could ensue should the secret be leaked out.
"Some secrets are meant to be kept just that... secrets." Lydia wasn't quite sure how far she could trust this female... though she had an inner feeling that Aquiel would take such a secret to the grave. She just wasn't sure how well other wolves would take to it or even how this female would listen to it. Lydia's way of life was far different than any other wolf that would be out there... though, granted, there were other wolves, obviously that were similar to her, but she had only met one once... and that was when she was turned.
"If you're looking to join the pack, then that's all the better. Mind you, it's starting to get really crowded, with so many new wolves making their way in here. We've had 4 or so new members in the past week." Quick subject change and she was sure that this femora would catch it easily, but Lydia wasn't really caring any more.
She began to wonder where Kerrigan was. Usually, he was very good at finding new wolves quickly, especially after Lydia had been around them for a while. She wasn't sure how, but he just seemed to know when new wolves were on his lands... so why wasn't he approaching this one?
Lydia sat calmly, looking at Aquiel with her penetrating amber eyes.

Aquiel admired Lydia's nobility; however, that still did not negate her curiosity in the slightest. Although she knew that it may have went too far. If there was anything Aquiel was aware of, it was that trust was paramount in a friendship with absolutely no secrets. The fae knew all too well how Lydia must have felt, wanting to keep her deepest secrets away from the surface of her mind. After all, nobody really knew of how Aquiel ended up in the Nigori Marshlands anyway, so she too had a secret.
"Well someday I hope you do trust me enough in order to tell me. Even if some secrets don't seem like a burden on the outside, they can be a burden on the inside." explained Aquiel, as if she had matured from a child to an adult in a matter of a few short seconds.
"What is this Kerrigan fellow like? I have always wanted to be apart of a pack....in fact....now that I mentioned this...have you ever seen a white wolf with butterfly wings? Or have you ever heard of one existing?" Aquiel asked, completely changing the subject.

Lydia watched the female. She was sure she could trust her now... she just wasn't sure of a few factors. How would she react? Were there any listening ears nearby? How did she know they were truly alone? Lydia wasn't about to betray her secret for the general curiosity of a wolf she had just met.
"It's not an entirety of a matter of trust. There are other factors involved." She said simply as she stood for a moment to stretch her legs. She readjusted her large, crimson red bat-like wings and sat once more. She felt the need to stretch a bit, having been sitting for so long while talking to this female. She was indeed a curious one. Lydia could read her like a book, though she wasn't about to tell her this... and it did help that she could read minds.
"A white wolf with butterfly wings? Yeah, I've both heard of her and seen her. He name is Celestia. Some sort of messenger of the Ancestors." She flicked her tail as if it were nothing. She stretched her back, making her spine crack in several different places, before she relaxed again and let loose a contented sigh.

“Celestia.....that name sounds so familiar..." whispered Aquiel as she remembered her dream vividly, feeling every sensation and hearing every word.
Aquiel had some sort of peculiar familiarity with this Ancestral Messenger that she could not decipher. For some odd reason whenever she thought of Celestia, she felt comforted as if by a mother's presence. Aquiel could not figure out why she had the dream...and why it was so realistic.
"She appeared to me in a dream....do you have any idea why she could have come to me?" Aquiel seemed so curious about Celestia, she just hoped that the random change of topic did not anger Lydia at all.
Deep down Aquiel knew that being persistent with Lydia's secret was not the right way to make a friend---hence why she decided to make a subject change.

Lydia looked at the aquatic wolf before her and flicked her tail. How was she supposed to know why the wolf came to her? All she said was that she knew of the female, not that she knew why she would have come to her. Lydia sighed and adjusted her wings.
"I honestly have no idea as to why she would have come to you. Perhaps you can find out at the Sacred Circle? It's the place you can go to get a spiritual connection with the Ancestors. Perhaps you'll get lucky and meet up with one of them or something." She had heard of how the wolven ancestors would often travel to the Earth to meet up with the wolves of the lands that they graced. Mayonaka had appeared on several occasions, mother of all wolves and of all life... Aures Un had appeared to the Alphas most recently to inform them of the Alphen meeting... so it was possible that they would approach a wolf searching for answers, specifically for a wolf who had had contact with one of the messengers of the Ancestors.
"I've heard that you can meet them there if you're in true need of guidance. I know that the messengers, Angel and Celestia, actually walk among the mortals of the lands. I've seen Angel around once or twice... and Celestia, though that was many years ago." Lydia had purposely let this part of her slip out... the many years... if Aquiel could guess about Lydia, then she wouldn't have to tell. Hopefully, though, she would be just smart enough to think it and not say it out loud... though the chances of her guessing were slim to none... Vampires were very uncommon and not commonly known to mortals. The messengers, would, of course, know of them... as would the ancestors... but mortals, not so much. Not unless one had spoken up about themselves... yet another reason Lydia kept her secret to herself.

Aquiel lowered her eyes toward the soaked earth beneath her feet as she contemplated Lydia's words. If the fae was old enough to be aware of wolves who thrived upon the Earth for years and years...then her wisdom must have ran deeper than Aquiel had originally anticipated.
"I'd go to the Sacred Circle...but I want nothing more than to be a Betess in this packland....I want to prove to the world and to other wolves that I'm not a pointless nobody...and that I am capable..." Aquiel said passionately as she stared at Lydia with emotional eyes. Aquiel wanted nothing more than to be accepted....and she figured that establishing a role as a leader would help her more than she could possibly imagine.
"KERRIGAN!"[b/] Aquiel cried out once more, hoping that the Alpha would hear her mighty howl.

"KERRIGAN!"
Holy fu-! His thoughts flipped off as he sat up with enough force to give himself whiplash. He grimaced at his choice of words, deciding that giving himself that yellow lizard was probably worse than a hurt neck. And ancestors, who in the marsh of calling him? Now that the shock of waking had passed he let himself slide to the floor again, pressing his massive face into the floor and let his shoulder follow. The cold stone felt nice against his over heated skin and he scooted back a bit, his jowl peeling off his teeth to give him a lopsided snarl. His eyes felt like they were weighed down with lead and he hauled himself to his paws, decided that he may be tired, but the hell if he was going to slack on his duty as alpha. He'd gotten his stupid self stuck in quicksand near the edge of the territory. A batch he hadn't yet remembered nor been expecting. And he'd just lay down to sleep of his weariness.
He lifted his heavy paws and have himself a long, forceful shake before leaping up the slope and out of his den. He stumbled a second before his body realized that it was correct: it had to work correctly. He snorted, wondering if being stuck in cold mud in the hot sun would make him sick. Wouldn't that be fun? He gritted his teeth and slid into a trot that was easier on his joints. The ache in his shoulders was a bit much so he settled into a slow walk before lifting his muzzle and giving a howl in response so they'd at least know he was getting there. Today the water drug his paws and the plants irritated him into snapping at them with flashing teeth and sizzling lime lightning. He let out a breath and forced his body faster as he spotted the shapes of two wolves in the distance. One was Lydia, but he couldn't tell if the other was a female and he was too tired to take it's scent.
He slowed again, tired but making sure he approach without making it apparent. He padded toward them, head high and tail erect, sending his gaze between the two. He let his gaze settle on the female - now he could see her - who had called him. He tilted his head in greeting before speaking. "Greetin's miss. Ye called?" he rumbled, his voice slightly choppy and the accent making his words a near impossible purr or sound. He didn't correct it, not really caring. And if his lime markings weren't as bright as normal, it wasn't going to be mentioned.
