His paw tapped impatiently against the rockface a few times before he made a conscious effort to stop it. His ears flicked, first backwards, then forwards again, listening for any signs of newcomers to enter his lands. Nothing. Giving a small sigh he pulled himself to his feet, shaking each foot as he applied weight to it, then finally shaking his tail to complete his stretch. He yawned loudly, showing rows of clean, white teeth. For some reason Zephyr felt a little more content each day.
Which was odd, given the recent rise in little niggly problems with his pack. Giving the land one last glance over, he turned from his usual spot atop the waterfalls, nose picking up the cool, clean scent of he spray as he padded away. Things seemed to be a lot calmer now, though he still had his little worries.
Whether or not he could ignore Harbingers 'training' was one such worry, and he didn't want to continue to place Obsidian and Zircon at risk. He hoped that matter would resolve itself soon. Eden was becoming very attached to the brute and he didn't want it to end in anyone getting hurt.
He also feared a little for little Puru, whom he hadn't seen since helping her that first day. No doubt Celestia and Masina were taking good care of her and his lovely Cindershock would never leave the pup's side. They had both taken an instant liking to the little one, it was plain to see. He gave a small smile to nobody at all, at the thought of his pack now, though still with its problems. It was to be expected, any ecosystem had it's problems that needed to be worked out and a pack of wolves was no different.
But now it felt less like just a bunch of wolves sticking togther for food, warmth and protection. Now it felt more like a family, and he would protect his family at whatever cost.
Whatever cost

Riptide had been out exploring his new home and still trying to figure out the last minor details on how the pack works. He raised his head up high and took in a deep breath through his nose trying to find the scent of prey. The wind carried squirrel, but it was a stale scent. He took in another breath and this time he smelled rabbit. 'Mmm,' He thought to himself while his stomach let out a small growl. 'just what I need, something to eat.'
Riptide inhaled again and this time the rabbit scent was stronger. He heard scuffling amongst the leaves in the bush a few yards in front of him. He crouched down, ready to pounce. He leaped and landed on top of the rabbit and with a quick swipe of his paw, he snapped it's neck and instantly killing his prey.
He carried his rabbit a few feet away from where he killed it and sat down and ate. Lucky for him it was tender and plump. 'I guess before I return to the pack I might as well catch some prey to put in the fresh-kill pile.' He thought to himself. Riptide finished up his food and swiped his tongue around his maw, wiping away the blood.
Riptide continued his walk. The wind blew carrying a different scent, it was Zephyr. "Finally I may just get a chance to officially meet the Alpha of the Pack." He mumbled to himself. He followed the scent and found Zephyr staring out into the woods almost seeming to be looking for something, or pondering a really deep thought.
Riptide cleared his throat. "Hello Zephyr." He said cheerfully hoping to get to know him better. "Is something bothering you?" He asked, even though Riptide thought he probably wouldn't reply to his question because, as mentioned before, Zephyr hasn't officially met him.

He worried needlessly, as this was his pack now and he had to look after it, though with the help of Cinder he felt he could do almost anything they put their minds to, as long as they did it together. Side by side. As one. He smiled at the thought, feeling the soft breeze ripple through his fur, when he stopped. The breeze brought a familiar scent up to his nostrils. Yet he had yet to meet the brute to which the scent belonged to.
Riptide. He turned gracefully, an open smile upon his face, his eyes full of warmth. He unfurled his wings a little, stretching them, as the feathers ached for him to take flight, but he resisted the urge for now. He looked at the other brute, showing his respect for a pack member with a delicate bow of his head.
"Hello Riptide, it's a pleasure to finally meet you. I feel a bit stupid having not yet met all of my packmembers. I think we should correct that soon" He said warmly, though he quieted down at the last few words, as if he were talking to himself.
Catching Riptides question, Zephyr looked up again, his eyes wide and a little surprised, as if he'd been caught poking his nose where he oughtn't.
"Huh? Oh.." He trailed off, padding away a little, his tail swishing absently behind him.
"Yes. I am a little bothered. To tell the truth I'm worried" He gave a soft laugh, amazed at how simple it was, and how quickly he came out with it.
"How odd. It feels much better now that I've said that. Riptide, friend, I hope you don't mind me using you to...vent my worries upon? I love Cinder dearly, yet I could never..." He stopped himself again, worried that he wasa rambling a little, after all he had only just met the other brute. Officially.
"Well, never mind that. How are you?" He asked suddenly, brightly, hoping the change of subject was not too plain, thgough in his heart he knew it clearly was.

Riptide gave his tail a little wag showing Zephyr that he was happy about officially meeting the Alpha of his pack. Remembering his manors, Riptide dipped his head in greeting. He listened to what Zephyr had to say, and responded. "Don't worry Zephyr, it's all good. I've been here longer that you and I still only know several of the wolves," Riptide let out a small laugh, and looked out inot the forest, then continued to talk with a slight change in tone. "but I do have to admit since you are the Alpha you should get to know your pack if you want them to respect you better in times of a battle, or just when give out orders."
Riptide looked back to Zephyr and he noticed that he had taken a few steps back like he had said something wrong. 'What did I say?' He thought to himself. Then it came back to him, 'Yup, I asked a little too much out of him at our first meeting.' Riptide thought worried. He spoke up "Sorry Zephyr I didn't mean to dig too deep." He said calming himself.
Riptide listened to the rest he had to say...then he spoke up when he was done. "It's ok," He trailed off bcause he couldn't think of anything else to say.
Riptide noticed his sudden change in subject and he resisted the feeling to ask Zephyr what he was worried about or to continue his story, because he didn't want to pester his Alpha. 'There must be something that's really bothering him.' He thought.
Riptide just went along with the sudden change and replied "I'm goog, thanks for asking."he replied cheerfully. Riptide thought quickly trying to get a conversation going.
He looked back out into the woods, remembering Zephyr shift his wings a little like he wanted to go for a fly. then turned back to Zephyr with a thought in mind. "Zephyr," he began "would you like to go for a fly?" He asked then remembering that he didn't have wings and quickly corrected himself."I mean go for a run...fly, thing." Riptide felt like a retard infront of the Alpha. 'Wow,' He thought to himslef 'this isn't a good first impression.' He accepted that he probably looked stupid when he said that and turned to Zephyr to wait for his reply

Zephyr smiled at Riptide's honest, yet not too prying reply. He felt more calm now that he had admitted to being worried, yet didn't feel as if he'd unloaded a massive burden upon the other brute.
He listened intently to what Riptide had to say, nodding in agreement when he suggested that he should meet his entire pack. It was certainly a good idea. He would like to meet everyone in the pack, it would be a great experience.
"Perhaps we should arrange a pack meet soon then. In order for everyone to get properly acquainted. What an idea" He mused lightly to himself, smiling. They could make a field day out of it. He and perhaps a few other brutes could hunt some prey, toss it into a large pile. And they could have a feast and play games, like a thriving pack. He knew their members were growing, and he had a good deal of wolves to take care of now. Time to start acting like the responsible wolf he was born to be.
He glanced up at Riptide, smiling in surprised happiness and warmth at the other brute's suggestion for a run. He wouldn't mind a chance to stretch his legs. His wings ached a little, but he needed to stretch his legs more and he could always beat his wings lightly to give him an extra little lift when running.
His paws twitched beneath him, kneading the dirt underneath the pads of his paws, and he nodded, deciding.
"That sounds like a great idea Riptide. Feeling the wind ripple through our fur. A great way to let off energy and worries" He gave the other wolf a devilish grin, a part of him wanted to race, as he always did, yet he was unsure as to whether or not Riptide would rather just a leisurely run.

Riptide listened to what the brute had to say about the pack meet and he held back the urge to shout. Wow, that sounds like a great idea! Instead he nodded and waited for his turn to speak. "Wow," He barked "that sounds like a plan that could work." Riptide let a smile brighten up his face.
He noticed the brutes paws kneading at the ground beneath him. 'Yup,' Riptide thought to himself. 'I can tell he wants to run.'
He let his tail wag when Zephyr had agreed to go for a run, but Riptide caught something cross the brutes face. 'Wow,' thought Riptide 'he doesn't just want to go for an easy run through the woods, Zephyr wants to race!'
He smirked, then instantly wiping it off his face hoping that the other brute hadn't noticed. 'Ok then,' Riptide continued to think. 'if it's a race he wants, it's a race he'll get!'
Riptide started to knead the ground just as Zephyr had done earlier. He started to get the urge to dart off into the forest. "Ok," Riptide finally spoke. "why don't we race instead. I think it sounds much more fun, and we could wear off some energy." Without waiting for Zephyr to reply Riptide darted into the woods, but he stopped and spun around. "Well," He barked excitedly. "what are you waiting for? Hedgehogs to fly?" He said in a playful manor "Lets go!" Riptide spun back around and darted off. "You'll never catch me!" He prompted.

Zephyr gave Riptide a grin that wiped all the weariness off his face. He felt so relieved that Riptide had suggested a run, and it'd be a great way to work off his stress. He smiled at the pure thought of it. Yet he did so want to race. He gave a cautious glance towards the other brute, trying to read what he wanted in his body language. Then he caugth the grin set in Riptide's muzzle, and his heart leapt even before he heard the other brute talk.
Riptide wanted to race! He could feel it, the brute's heartbeat had quickened, and his whole aura seemed urgent and ready to start. His spottings were soon rewarded right after Riptide finished talking, as he took off in a spurt of energy, leaving Zephyr looking surprised and joyously puzzled in the dust. The young alpha gave a happy hoot and tsarted off after Riptide, owling his challenge.
Yeah, this is the ticket, he thought madly to himself as he dodged between trees and ran under small spouts of water that wet his fur and ran little trails of liquid in his golden pelt. He threw his head back and laughed, his strong muscles and aching paw pads bringing him faster along, dipping his head to gain more speed, he was catching up with the brute although Riptide had a good few seconds of running ahead of him.
"Watch out you I'm right behind you!" He called out, giving Riptide a grin. This was definately the ticket. He felt so relaxed and carefree, like being a pup again. He smiled a small smile as his shoulders and hips working hard to keep his legs pumping.

Riptide was racing with the Alpha of the Fukai Waterfall pack, Zephyr, and right now he couldn't be happier. With the wind ruffling through his fur and the scent of Fall aproaching; for once he seemed intouch with nature, the birds chirping above his head, the leaves whistling in the breeze, and the crisp scent of his pack that Riptide has gotten accustomed to.
His moment with nature fadded away as a brute approached him. He almost forgot that he was racing with Zephyr. Riptide heard the brute call out and he noticed that the alpha was gaining on him. 'Oh no,' Riptide thought to himslef "I better kick it up a notch." He mumbled so quitely to himself that he almost didn't hear him talk. Riptide pushed himself on, and made sure that one paw fell inline after the other. He kept his eyes focused on the ground infront of him looking out for anyroots or rocks that could possibly trip him up. He turned his head around to take a quick look at the brute to see where he was. Riptide took his attention off running and didn't see the rock in front of him.
Riptide kept running still not taking any notice of the rock that he was bound to trip over. He must of had luck on his side, because he bounded right over the stone without even scraping his pad.
Riptide felt vistorious because he was still keeping his distance. "Oh crap!" He yelled, alnding with an umf. His face dug into the ground and his mouth filling with dirt. Yup, you may have guessed right Riptide had tripped over a rock. He picked himslef up and shook the dirt and dust from his pelt. "Well that was fun." He said sarcasticly, but loud enough for Zephyr to hear.

He grinned haphazardly as the wind whipped through his fur, his ears trailing behind him, his secondaries aching for release but he didn't care for flying, not at this precise moment. At this precise moment alll was forgotten except the pounding of his heart against his ribcage, and the thundering of his paws against the solid ground. His breath came in short, excited bursts, his tongue lolling out to stop him from getting too hot. He looked like an overgrown house dog he was so content and carefree.
His heart beat faster with every step he took to being closer to Riptide, and he actually whooped - a loud, barking thing - when he was almost at his flank. However when Riptide tripped, that also caught him off guard too. He skidded to a stop, looking back at his packmember with a little concern, but also with confusion over his face.
It seemed as if Riptide had cleared that last rock, but when he went to inspect it further, his back paw had just clipped the rock, sending him sprawling. He gave a soft chuckle, looking at Riptide with one ear up and one ear half down.
"Looks like you had a bit of a fall there" He stated, smiling at his stating the obvious so obviously.
"You alright Tide?" He queried, before doing a bit of a double take. That was odd, he laughed it off, kind of hoping Riptide wouldn't get offended. He would have to nickname everyone in the pack. It was Zephyr's way of familiarizing himself with other wolves. Give them a nickname. Riptide's was Tide. He smiled a little now. Perhaps he would be a better Alpha after all.

((So I hope I'm not confuzzling(confusing) you, but I'm changing my text a little. Orange+Bold= talking, Blue+italicized= thinking))
Riptide couldn't believe himself. He couldn't even go a few yards without tripping over something. Riptide spit the dirt out of his mouth trying to get every last bit. Even after his attempts he could still feel grit in his mouth. Riptide pricked his ears as he heard Zephyr come up behind him.
Riptide sat down and listened to what the Alpha had to say."I believe I did." He said in a playful voice. Riptide looked down at his hind paw to see, if any, damage he has caused. He also looked down because he was slightly embarrassed but that feeling went away as fast as it came. He looked back up when Zephyr started to speak again. "Yeah," he replied "I think I'm alright." He let another small smile come across his face. 'Wait' He thought to himself 'did he just call me Tide? Cool!'
Riptide took a quick moment to clean off his pelt then turned back to the brute standing in front of him. "Well let's continue this race." He said with a competition-like edge. "And let's hope this time I don't trip over anything" He smiled and let out laughter. " I'm surprised you didn't catch up with me, even thought I did get a head start." Riptide was starting to mess around with Zephyr. "Those wings of yours are going to have to do better to keep up with me. I may not have wings, but these legs get me places" Riptide boasted. "Fast" He added on. Yet again Riptide turned and darted off, leaving Zephyr in the dust.

Zephyr gave Riptide a warm smile as a stab of relief brought his pulse back down to the normal level. He was ok. Perfectly fine in fact, except having just eaten a bad dirt sandwich. He smiled at his inward joke, but quickly quelled the smile before Riptide saw it and thought he was making fun of him. Just before Riptide ran off, Zephyr gave him one last look over as if to triple check that the other brute was fine. It wpould never hurt to make sure, yet he didn't want to seem overcautious. Still, he knew it was his responsibility if anyone got hurt, and though Masina was good at healing, recently she had had other things on her mind and he hadn't wanted to disturb her.
Then Riptide took off again before Zephyr could think of a smarmy comment to his jibes, leaving him just standing there, his jaw hanging open in surprise like some doped up animal. He didn't want to get left in the dust this time, so he bounded forwards again even though he was alreayd behind, he would not hold back on Riptide this time.
He grinned, huffing a little as his paws worked hard to build up speed. Already he saw that he was catching up to Riptide, and he whooped with excitement before putting on another burst of speed that would place his shoulders in line with Riptide's back legs. He snapped at them playfully, his paws drumming against the forest floor all the while a stupid happy-go-lucky grin plastered across his face.
((No worries about it ^^))
