Dusk had fallen in the pack that resided near the waterfall. It was an eerie evening; even the dull roar of the falls seemed muffled by the mists and shadows that draped the world into silence. One of the shadows' own was slipping along expertly, dodging easily about trees that it would seem he could not see, for his eyes were sealed shut. His great slate horns tore interfering branches from their homes - taught them a lesson..
The red eye upon his forehead seemed to quiver with nerves, the light that it gave shivering slightly. From the cold? But nay.. it was a warm evening, humid. Perhaps that unearthly shiver from that surreal red eye that loomed from the mist, escorted by a pair of heavy heart-shaped horns, perhaps it came from the anxiety of the sleeping souls within their dens that he could see even from here.
Death November had not socialized with another wolf in many weeks, not since the.. incident. He had only braved the chance of running into one in the hope that he may drink from the water that had entered his brains in staticky waves through his horns. He hadn't had a decent drink in some time, and the opportunity was overpowering even for his powerful will.
This decision.. I must come to regret it. Foolish! Foolish of me. What if one of them hears me? What if.. what if I were to turn my fangs upon them as well? I cannot! I have to fight that sort of urge.. with December and Nekoz it just.. my guard was down. I was afraid and angry and upset, and the scent of blood was in the air. It's all right. I won't hurt anybody.
The thought felt reassuring, though he wasn't quite positive how much of it was true.
The static is getting louder.. the waterfall must be near. Ah, yes, I can see the souls of the fish. That odd turquoise and brown mixture there must be them. Good.. well done.
The shadow king approached the pool hesitantly. While he could see the fish swimming near the center, he could not see the edge of the water, for water is an inanimate object that lacks a soul for him to see. As he edged forward, moving ever so slowly, something erupted in an explosion of static and twittering high pitches from one of the tops of the pale green souls all about him, the trees; looking up, the male caught sight of a massive flock of birds, glittery, showy yellow-whites in color. He did like birds; when they flew in flocks together in that way, they had more beautiful souls than any other creature he had ever seen. When the flock had finally faded into the darkness of his mind, crossed into some black abyss where he could not follow them, he turned his attentions back to edging ever closer to the pool. His front paw splashed loudly in the water after a few minutes and he leapt back, looking around wildly to be certain that none were approaching him. Slowly, carefully, he lowered his noseless muzzle into the water and began to drink.

Masina often slept very little anymore, though with the amount of sleep she did get, she was perfectly aware. She had so many thoughts about new wolves and old wolves that had come through the lands and smiled to herself. Her newest addition to the pack was very kind femora called Eden. She smiled at the thought of the kindness that the two had shared between each other.
She slowly padded down the side of the waterfalls edge from behind the great cascading waters. Each pawstep was carefully placed as she moved with ease down the thin ledge. She paused for a moment, gazing around the land around her and noticing a shadowy presence. She smiled again, wondering if it was another wolf that would need food and rest. She was always looking to help other wolves, which is what she did most of the time while looking after these lands for the previous alphas that had disappeared before.
She slowly padded down the rest of the ledge and padded toward the shadowed figure, her white pelt like a ghost in the night. The moonlight above caused the gold feathers on her wings to shine whenever one of the pearlescent rays graced her fur and feathers. She slowly approached the shadow figure and smiled, her icy blue eyes capturing the soft rays of the moonlight and causing them to glint with nothing but hope and kindness.
"Hello, stranger. My name is Masina, Betess of these lands. What brings you to the Fukai Waterfall at this late hour?" [/b] She smiled kindly, pausing a few meters away from the figure in order to not scare it or sound intimidating as she approached. [/blockquote]

His narrow head was still tilted to the water's surface when a glimmer of light cast a golden glare across the utter blackness of his mind. His dark red tongue, the color of blood, ceased to lap at the water, and his skull rose to around half of its regular height. Moving towards him was a soul, a wolf's soul, for it was sentient and filled with a varying number of emotions, and it shone a brilliant bronze, yellow and white. November remained stock still; perhaps, if he did not move, she would pass him by. He would just seem as a mirage, his horns as great branches. Perhaps it was the six red eyes, four upon his horns, one upon his face, and the one upon his chest. Perhaps their red glow was what gave him away. She moved towards him, unaware of the danger, unaware that before her was a beastly demon whose rows of silver dagger-fangs could cut through metal if they had to. Maybe she thought that he was one of those wolves he had heard of, the ones that had odd markings that could glow or flame or disappear. It was certain that she did not realize that he was seeing straight into the pit of her soul right now, for if she had, she surely would have faltered and fled his prying eye.
The soul stopped advancing, floating with that eerie light, prisms of bronze and white and yellow twisting and melding together and circling in a dance that any but November would find mesmerizing and beautiful. But he had seen too many a soul to find them lovely anymore. There were few souls that ever left an impression on him for a mark of raw beauty.
His head tilted slightly as the soul flickered; speaking. The horns tingled at their base, their message traversing into his brain with a faint static that always was present in the translation. Words were unintelligible to his horns; the horns translated into pictures and emotions, and he pieced them together with that powerful intuition that blindness and deafness had thrust upon him. Her name was Masina.. she was.. betess? The second in command. And this waterfall.. Fukai? Was that the correct word? Fukai.. waterfall.. she was asking what brought him here. He gazed at her soul, bristling mentally at her impertinence. What else would have brought him there other than a drink of water? How could she blame one who was blind, deaf and senseless for journeying into a land for a drink before he continued on? Though it had not, November had tricked himself into believing that he'd caught a tinge of malice in her words.
Remember December.
The male shook himself mentally, pushing the thoughts of attacking the betess that had been forming near the edges of his mind into the gutter. Foolish! Foolish of him. He attempted a smile at the female, a smile that she would be incapable of seeing for the blackness of his face and his lacking of lips to identify top from bottom. He opened his mouth to speak, twisting moonlight somehow cutting an incision through the fog just in time to glance off of his silver fangs exposed by his open jaws.
"A drink," he murmured simply. He thought a moment on her words before speaking again, more audibly this time. "I'm called Death November... Well, good evening to you, then, Masina." He had meant to turn and run - he was a quick runner - when he caught the aura of her soul. Half frozen in turning around, he glared straight into her soul, his head in fact seeming to stare down at her chest, trying to understand. Mercy? Kindness? Yes.. and hope, too. What made her feel so cheerful? There was nothing in the world to be glad for, particularly not for her. He'd seen the other souls here, even if from afar. They weren't alphas. She was a lone betess. Practically nothing for her to be the betess of.
So why did her soul smile at him?

Masina smiled at the wolf as he sat silent for a moment. When he spoke, she had to strain her ears to catch the first part of his words. Drinking was more than welcome, as was a place to sleep should he require rest. She figured she would offer to him the same hospitality that she offered every intelligible wolf and creature that passed through.
"It's nice to meet you, Death November. If there is anything you need, a place to sleep, food, nourishment, what have you, please let me know and I will help to provide it for you. If you should be looking for a pack, then you're more than welcome to stay in this one, but that would be no obligation to stay. You would be free to come and go as you please, should you take up this offer." [/b] She smiled again and nodded in respect to the wolf. She wondered if this wolf had been going through the lands in search of anything in particular or if he was just a lone wolf that happened to traverse through the lands out of everyday travel.[/blockquote] ((Please forgive the shortness of the post.... :/ ))

Eden awoke from her deep slumber, her droopy silver eyes wandering around the den. Masina was no where to be found. Worry immediately grasped at her heart as she was startled fully awake. The wolfess rose to her paws and began scenting Masina's resting area. Within moments, Eden picked up the most recent trail, which led out of the den. The worry clenching at her heart tightened, what had happened to her Betess?
Quickly, Eden padded out the entrance, nose in the air. She gracefully missed the waterfall, but the mist still wet her black fur. Not far off, Eden was able to see her Betess along with a stranger, a lone male wolf. At seeing Masina well and unharmed, the tension fled from her shoulders. Just in case, though, she decided to stay with Masina.
Slowly, Eden walked up to the two wolves, not wanting to startle the unknown male. The grass beneath her feet crunched slightly as she approached. "Good evening, loner. I am Eden, the newest member of the pack. Welcome to our lands." The wolfess smiled at the male, attempting to show encouragment. Eden brushed her shoulder against Masina's as she spoke. "Betess, you worried me. I thought something happened to you. You had left without a word or sound."
