Sudden sunlight broke brightly through the thick covering of the mountain clouds. The light seemed to carry golden mists within its life, glowing and shimmering as a heavenly form might. The trees seemed to lean toward the light to soak up its purity and to feel its warmth, but the sight could just be an illusion. Where the light graced the land was the peak of the tallest mountain in the range. A chuckle arose from the mist, the trees shook with its high-spirited tone as if they shared it.
”I call to you, Lucid. I call to you Mira.” The hearty chuckle echoed from the mountain peak, illuminated gold again. ”Mira…Lucid…I call to you.” If a face could be put to the voice, it surely would be smiling; smiling with warmth and joy, smiling with health and with knowing. If a face could be put to the voice…it would be unlike any seen before…

Lucid paused in his meal as he looked to the golden light that had graced his terrain. He slowly stood, leaving his meal forgotten as he padded out of his den and flew to the highest mountaintop to speak with whatever had called his name. He looked around, his glowing gold eyes put to shame from the golden light that graced the lands.
"I have come. What is it that brings you to the mortal realm?" he said as he bowed to the ground, though not as much as he probably should. His pride was there, as always, but it was respectful enough. He held his wings to the ground as well in part of his bow to level out the pride he held and looked to the source of the light in quiet bewilderment and wondering.

From the source, from the heavens high above, the light brought the solid form of a great beast. Faster than any mortal could blink a great dragon flew down and perched upon the mountain peak before the black alpha. Its great form so heavy that the entirity of the mountain shook, all the way down to its base. The dragon's front claws gripped into the solid stone, causing them to crack beneath Lucid's paws. The beast's great tail curled around the very mountain, winding down as the mountain widened. Though the form of the dragon was great enough to block out the sky entirely from where Lucid was stood, the light did not falter, in fact, it grew in its brilliance. The dragon's very form was completely gold, shimmering and shiny, sending reflected gold light onto the valleys and forests far below. A reptilian rumble rolled through the dragon's golden throat, large as the mighty trunks of the ancient pines. The voice spoke again, coming from the great beast, though its snout, which was large enough to swallow ten Lucid's whole, remained still.
"Oh, how I've known you have done that before, and how you will do that so many times again."
The reptilian rumble came once more. "Tell me Lucid, though I know your answer..." The dragon lowered his head down to Lucid's body so that Lucid may look directly into his eyes, eyes larger than Lucid's skull. "Tell my why you see fit to not give as much respect as you might."

Lucid suppressed a scoff as the dragon spoke of his respectful posture. Lucid was being respectful and, if this were any other being, would have allowed his anger to get the best of him.. all things considered, he calmed his inner fire and spoke in a calm, nearly emotionless voice.
"I give you all the respect that any ancestor would deserve. I see that, though I am nothing in comparison to your greatness, I am an important part of these lands and think I hold some respect to myself in that aspect. Would my pack be what it is if I were not it's leader? This, great one, is why I hold some of the respect that you might think you deserve." It was known that his words weren't meant to be rude in any way, but with Lucid, nearly everything he said was either meant to sound that way or was accidentally sounding that way.. it was not his fault that his words came out the way they did. Lucid thought a moment before adding to his words. "As you should very well know, it is in my nature to act in such a manner... it is part of who I am. If you believe and wish me to show you more respect, than let me know, and I shall do so, though one might look at a request such as that as a negative request." He flicked his tails through his unconscious habit and waited for the guardian to speak again.[/blockquote]

The great dragon's snout curved upward in a wide smile, his eyes showing the truth of it through their shimmering glow.
"I will introduce myself, much as I have countless times..." The great dragon's neck rose to the sky only to lower again, this time in sync with its great body and golden wings; lowering into a bow, the dragon folded his wings to the sides of the mountain in a mimic of what Lucid had done with his own. From the dragon's still mouth, he spoke again. "I, dear Lucid, Lucid of the mountain pack, introduce myself as Aures Un." Whether Lucid had perceive it or not, Aures Un had done what he intended to, what he had done before and would do again. He had caused Lucid to speak, speak to the world of his motives. No evil lay within the alpha's being, only essence of who he was. Aures Un's eyes smiled with knowing, knowing of the past, the future, the now that he longed to share with the world. Knowing that all were the same.

((Lol, good point... I guess my muse disappeared for a moment... xP)) Lucid looked at the guardian as he turned and bowed to him. This added to his pride and his arroagance, though it didn't show as the ancestor did this. It was an inward knowledge and he smirked inside his dark heart as he nodded kindly to the guardian.
"So you agree with me, do you? I respect you more now that you have shown me respect as what could only be called as an equal, though I know you are far more important to the cosmos than what I am. My importance only relies in my past, myself, and my pack... whatever the future holds is only for my actions to decide." He smirked as he said this and flicked his tails. "Now, what brings you to the mortal realm, as I asked before? Surely it would be within the power of a great being such as yourself to divulge your reasonings for such a meeting?" Lucid was always at a thirst for knowledge.. knowledge was power to him and he hungered for it with each word he spoke.[/blockquote]

The great dragon's form rose to the skies once Lucid acknowledged his introduction, smiling still radiating from his snout. Before Aures would answer the question, the question of his presence. He first must instill knowledge to Lucid, though he knew it would do nothing, it still must be done. Aures smiled inwardly as he saw the future happened before his eyes, as it always was.
"Of course, my son, there is reasoning for your calling, but first you must hear this- as you have seen a guardian bow to you as an equal, you must hear so you may know that you, too, can bow to others as your equals."
Words echoed to Aures Un. We are all the same. "And now that I have said what must be said, I will continue." He chuckled deeply. "I call to you for this reason, the alphas of the packlands have grown far to distant from one another." His smile brightened as his snout remained still despite his great voice. "A meeting is called, one upon the circle of the sacred ones, for all to learn from one another once again. And as I have had the experience to meet you forever Lucid, you shall see me for the second instance upon the sacred circle. For this, you have been called."

Lucid nodded to the dragon as he spoke, acknowledging his words, but not necessarily taking them to heart. Lucid waited, patiently as the dragon took his time answering his question, and was glad to have the dragon finish his speech and tell him his calling. Lucid figured it had been for such a thing, for things such as this haven't happened but once, but he still was respectful enough to wait for the dragon to say his piece and finish his words.
"Very well. Thank you for your presence. When should such a meeting as this take place? Surely you know of the time and place? I like these meetings... it allows me to get to know the other packs and their leaders more effectively." The dragon would know what this meant, and Lucid had an inkling that he would, but he didn't acknowledge that as he waited for the dragon to reply to his query again.[/blockquote]

Aures Un's smile flickered with light.
"Ah, but remember dear Lucid, that though the weakness of others is what you may seek, the matter has not changed that as I have bowed to you, you have also bowed to me."
Dear Lucid would never take words to heart, but Aures Un knew that they must be said, they must be placed to where he may speak them again when needed. The dragon tail far below, resting on the mountainside flicked slightly, sending shimmering light into differing directions. "The gathering will be called by myself, but before we all can meet like we all have previously," He chuckled with his words, snout unmoving. "I must finish speaking with the others right now, so that we might be graced by their own presence." Aures Un beamed down to Lucid, though he saw the butcher of his parents before his golden eyes. "You must listen, dear Lucid, you must hear my call to you from the circle of the sacreds. That is when you may come, that is when you may bow to the others."

Lucid listened to the dragon, and thought about the idea of bowing to others within the sacred circle. A guardian had requested him of this and it would take much contemplation to wonder if he should heed the request or stay by his ways. What would the consequences be? What rewards would he reap? Which was better for his own personal gain?
"One question, oh great one... should only the leaders of the packlands attend this meeting? Or should any pack member be able to tag along as well, if deemed worthy, so to speak, by the alpha in charge?" He flicked his tails as he looked at the great dragon's face. He wondered to himself what might happen if he didn't heed the words of this dragon, but quickly wiped the thoughts from his mind as he waited for the response of the golden one.[/blockquote]

Aures Un beamed, lowering his great skull to Lucid's height once more, sending streams of golden reflection dancing to Lucid's black form.
"My dear Lucid, when ever has it been told that only alphas are permitted upon the gatherings. When I call, I will call to all who wish to join, I will call to all who wish to speak, who wish to bow to one another."
His great neck arched, great golden-feathered wings spreading, shining light onto the entire perimeter of Lucid's lands. "My dear Lucid...we are all the same." The golden form faded gently into the light, leaving behind only a solitary golden feather before Lucid's feet.

Lucid nodded before the great dragon disappeared and looked down at his feet at the golden feather that had been left behind. He wondered if it meant anything or if he had just dreamed everything. Was the feather there to show it wasn't a dream? What was he supposed to do with it? Did it have any special properties? Questions reeled through Lucid's mind as he pondered.
He picked up the feather in his maw and tucked it into his fur for carrying as he padded slowly away from the spot, staring down from the mountaintop and gazing over all the lands of Aelyn... he could see the waterfalls, the marshlands, the forest and the rest of his terrain. He flicked his tails at how vast the lands were and at how beautiful it was to be able to be on top of it all and looking down on it all as if he were a god or something. To see the lands from the highest point of Aelyn, from ocean shore to ocean shore... it was exhilarating.

((since Lucid's already here...)) It was nothing. And if he knew the metaphor, Crow would say that flying was a 'piece of cake'. The muscles of his wings propelled him forward with great speed, but also little effort, while his heat, the heat that he himself could create, brought him high or low with so much as a little concentration. And although he savored every breath, he delighted at the pull of the wind against every single feather, and every single fur, it was nothing as he had expected. It was much more glorious, but also not as exerting as Crow would have expected. He remembered as a pup, Father returning from a flight...Crow swore he could feel Father's great heart pumping through the air though he was feet from him. That was the instance that Crow invented the idea of training his wings. If Father, as mighty as he was, could become winded from flying, then Crow best prepare all that was possible before he even attempted it. But unlike he had witnessed Father, Crow was relaxed. His lungs did not heave, his heart did not pound, it was as if he had only taken a leisurely walk. Perhaps the fact that it was Crow's mind that created most of the effort dealing with flight that allowed it to come so easily. Crow was exuberant by the thought.
His large claws created clouds of dust at his feet as he landed. Father was already there, but that didn't matter. Crow bowed in deep respect, pinning his ears back humbly, tails laid low; the only feature of his bow that could be considered out of place was the fact that he held his great wings, equal to Father's, straight out to their sides, showing him their might.
Crow held his breath, no knowing his Father's reaction. He kept his head and form low, knowing to let Father speak first.

Lucid flicked his tails as the last of the golden aura disappeared. He turned his great face toward the direction of an oncoming wolf, only to find his son, Crow, flying toward him. He was intrigued, but nothing more. So he could fly. Good job, congrats. It was nothing big and nothing all that praiseworthy in his eyes, for he only sought to praise the one whom would be his heir. The others really didn't matter to him for that reason.. they only mattered that they were a part of his pack and one of them could be his future heir.. until he found out which, however, he would need to at least act a little fatherly toward his pups.
"So you flew? Good job." He didn't say much and really didn't give off his mood whatsoever. For all Crow knew, his father was indifferent and not feeling anything, completely closed... or something different, either or, Lucid wasn't about to waste time on praise when it was merely just that... a waste of time. Lucid looked to his first born son and waited for his reaction or him to speak. Lucid had nothing much to say, like he ever did, when talking to any member of his pack, unless it was barking an order or scolding.[/blockquote]

His eyes shot open wide, though Lucid wouldn't see through his dipped bangs. He wasn't good enough...Crow fought through the icy dagger that tore through his heart and managed to speak without stutters.
"Yes...and I was curious to whether..." He searched his mind frantically for a statement, and excuse, anything that might spark Father's interest! "...curious to whether you'd grant me an errand that perhaps no other might accomplish...without flight, that is." His tone was solid and steady, no faltering in his words, but his mind was broken, searching every single corner of his memories for some hint, or some clue to gain Father's praise.
A small thought flickered but dimmed before Crow could grasp it. Was he fighting for his inheritance...or for his father's love?

Lucid looked at his son and flicked his tails in response. He really had no children before this and was not really a family person, all things considered. Not even Mira knew of his past... no, only his only surviving kin, Masina, knew of what had happened and what he had done. This is why he showed no affection or praise toward Crow, he was not one to give it and never received it much as a pup himself. Perhaps that is why he was who he was today, though that could only be left up him and whatever beings should decide he look more into this, if he even thought it necessary, which was slim to none.
He flicked his tails again and turned his golden glowing eyes directly toward his eldest son. "What makes you think I would have such a task?" He raised an eyebrow and sat calmly, his great wings folded gently to his sides. He wouldn't just easily give Crow something to do... he would have to earn it, just like all of his pups would have to earn everything.[/blockquote]

He held his pose, held it still, but his mind was frantically searching, digging and flipping through something, anything to say. Crow hadn't considered the fact he'd need Father's approval...to get his approval... His nose twitched beneath his white bangs with his nerves. What was he to say? 'Sorry, dad, just thought the fact that I'm your son would place me in the category' ? Crow wasn't one to give lip...at least not to Father, Tola was free game as far as lip and attitude went, but not Father. Crow tilted his gaze only slightly, looking with his solid blue eyes into Lucid's solid yellow.
"I would assume that you have duties that you yourself would perfer to pass onto someone else, maybe duties that an alpha could get a subordinate to accomplish, freeing up his time." The urge to sway or swish his tail was strong, but Crow held it still, nothing of his presence would be seen as disrespectful, he would make sure of it. Even his tone was calm and low, cautiously suggesting Lucid's obvious dominance. "A task like that, I'm sure you'd have. Even if it is only patrolling the borders or carrying a message to another..." His gaze lowered again into his previous bow. "I would be more than willing to take responsibility for it, Father."

Lucid stood tall and looked down upon his son. There were a few things that Lucid had meant to do that he could test his son with. That, and the tasks he had in mind could alert the other packs, potentially, to his growing numbers and his packs strength. He grinned, his elongated canines shining brightly. He turned his glowing yellow eyes toward Crow's blue ones and spoke.
"Well, if you're looking to prove yourself, I have just the task for you. You of course know of the other packs surrounding these areas... spy on them.. find out their strengths and weaknesses. Should you get caught, I did not send you and you are there of your own free will and this conversation never happened between us. Get to know the other packs, but also patrol our borders. Should a situation turn hostile, howl your mightiest howl, and I will bring the pack to you. But only in dire emergencies that you cannot handle for yourself. I want to know everything I can of everyone in these lands... find out what you can." Lucid flicked his tails and looked to his son in a continuous fashion without altering or wavering in his posture. Lucid figured he could put his son to this sort of test and that this would be a perfect task for him to keep him busy. "Think you can handle this? Secrecy is of utmost importance. If you even think about betraying your pack.... your father... Even the fact that you're my son will not save you from my wrath. Do you understand?" He growled slightly to show his threat was genuine. He waited for his son to reply.[/blockquote]

He absorbed every word, memorizing every comma or period Father used in his speech. Only when his instructions stopped, did Crow dare to look up into Father’s solid eyes with his own. It was then, only then, that he noticed the golden feather, shimmering in the sunset’s blaze, that Father held in his possession. His deep blue eyes flashed with its reflected light as he looked directly at it. Only with a quick blink did he snap his attention back to where it should be.
”Yes Father, I accept without a doubt. All commands will be completed as instructed and they will well exceed your expectations, I promise you…” Crow paused, his professional demeanor softening slightly. ”…as your son, I promise you…Father.” His blue eyes looked Lucid over vividly, begging, pleading for any sign or recognition that he was indeed his father’s son.

Lucid nodded and listened as his son spoke to him like a true adult and a true pack member. He watched as his son glanced toward the golden feather that he held within his possession and duly noted it, never taking his eyes from his son's eyes.
"We shall see. Words are just words until acted upon. Once you have completed your mission, only then will I be able to trust you with more than just that. Realize this, should this have been any random pack member, I would not have entrusted such a task to them... you are different though... my blood runs through your veins, my blood that is the blood of a leader and of power. This is your chance to prove yourself and prove your power to me and to uphold my bloodline. Do you understand the importance of such a task?" He looked his son up and down. He had much of Lucid's size, though not the muscle like Lucid had. This was one of the things that Lucid was disappointed about, wanting one of his sons to take his place. Crow had the size, but did not look as if he had the power... unlike Tola, who though female, was obviously strong. Lucid flicked his tails and waited for his son to reply. Whether or not his son succeeded mattered on whether or not Lucid had any other agenda's that were not yet played out. [/blockquote] ((Minor Writers Block... o-O))
