LOOKS
Calder, he who is of the sea… At first glance, it appears this masculine male wolf was inappropriately named. Large in size and even greater in physical strength, he appears to have a body type that would sink like a stone should he paws ever touch water. His skeleton, though normal for a wolf in terms of shape, is heavily wrapped in a toned layer of muscle that has probably seen more war than any of us would like to comprehend. Covered in a long and incredibly thick coat of fur, it can be difficult to see at a distance, but ripples to life as Calder moves to and fro, powerful enough to shove even his impressive pelt aside when in action. His whole figure is dominated primarily by strength, with a stocky sort of appearance and an overall heavy-set feel, more like a boulder or mountain than a flowing stream, particularly when compared to other individuals.
But looks can be deceiving. Calder’s incredibly heavy pelt thickens his frame in appearance only, his trademark mane of long black-tipped guard hairs gives his body a massively front heavy look, when really, it is nothing of the sort. His body screams balance beneath all of that deceptive fur and, though it is undeniable that physical power is his prominent skill set, he is far from incapable of other things. His stamina is also impressive, his rib cage large and deep, filled with a powerful heart and a good set of lungs for long days full of running and wandering. His speed is heavily compromised by his sheer size and weight, of course, but since most of his supposed “size” is just fur, he often surprises others with a level of speed and agility unexpected. Unexpected but less than impressive…
What Calder lacks in agility, he makes up for in his appearance. Tall, powerful, strong, he is everything a male wolf should be physically. He is a towering brute, with shoulders over 30 inches off of the ground and 115 lbs of mass to his name. His paws are large, tipped in short, black claws, and as previously mentioned, he has a monster of a coat. His fur is long for a wolf, thickest around his neck, shoulders and under belly, with noticeable feathering on the backs of all four of his legs. For the most part, it is colored a brilliant shade of warm gold, the shade of the sun’s reflection on the surface of the ocean at dusk, with flecks of a darker brown and some black thrown in for good measure. His underside, most of his legs, chest and his face are all dusted with a soft, gentle cream color that, in the brightest of lights, looks almost white. It creates a trademark streak of light fur that crosses his shoulders horizontally, over his back up one side and down the other, resting right beside a strip of dark fur in shocking contrast. The top of his head and the tips of his ears share this dark shade brilliantly, giving his face a very stern, hard look, appropriate for his mindset.
To finish off his unforgettable appearance, Calder sports a pair of bright blue eyes. Though of a color normally associated with the coldness of ice and winter, something about them screams warmth and comfort, like that of a father or loving guardian: strong, brave, dependable… and of the element: water.
ELEMENT
Water (manipulation), meaning he cannot create water on his own, only manipulate it from a specified source within his environment. Ideally, this would be a pond, river or lake of some sort. However, almost every living creature on this earth sports a large collection of water so, in a pinch, Calder can draw water from his body or the bodies of others willing to contribute. This, as you can imagine, is highly dangerous, risking dehydration, increased blood pressure and organ failure if and when too much liquid is drawn from the body’s vital areas. As such, Calder relies on this tactic as little as possible and simply prefers to be around large bodies of water, which can manipulate and control in order to do his bidding. He can gather large quantities of water (if rather limited by the size of the source) into a ball or a wave and send it crashing down on an opponent with a force comparable to being hit by a large truck. Or he can be gentle, turning water into a soothing mist to clean injuries or wash blood from fur. He is very skilled with his water craft, but uses it sparingly despite that. Not only is it incredibly draining for him to use in excess, but it can have adverse effects on the environment (if he took tall of the water out of a river, all of the wish would die, for example) and can act as a very unfair advantage in the face of certain opponents. He prefers to win his battles honorably.
PERSONALITY
As strong and noble as he appears, Calder is a character that seems to command respect without speaking a word or issuing any orders. Upon first impression, he seems very laid-back and nonchalant, almost to the point of being uncaring, uncompassionate, even cold like a winter breeze. He does not force others into doing what he feels is best for them, does not dominate nor attempt to control, and is almost unbelievably respectful of the wishes, will and desires of others, be them friend, foe or total stranger. He is honorable, respectful, always keeping his word and never criticizing, insulting or otherwise being obnoxious. He is very… chivalrous, lenient, to the point of absurdity.
Though he claims to care for all members of all species, whenever he is approached by one with a problem, his attitude becomes almost aloof, as though he is uninterested, and his advice can be confusing, fleeting even, as he leaves a lot of it open ended, preferring to allow others to interpret the world as opposed to forcing his own ideals unto them. But, as you can imagine, this can easily be interpreted as not caring and Calder’s mysterious, often puzzling demeanor means that he does not correct the mistakes of others. If they wish to believe that he is a heartless bastard, then he simply allows this. If they wish to fight about it, he’ll do so as well, with as much of his might as he feels is warranted and all of the respect he can give. By contrast, if they find him appealing as a friend or mate or male of a particular rank, he again will not argue, he will not fuss. He is, by far, the most agreeable follower you will ever come across.
Agreeable, but not confused. Though he is laid-back, relaxed and enjoys a good nap in the sun just as any wolf would, Calder is no male to take lightly. He respects all others, lets them pave their own path and simply prefers to step out of their way, but he is not in any way a push over. Whenever his beliefs are challenged or his morals feel that wrong is about to come forth, his passive demeanor takes a back seat to his chivalry and righteousness. He does not sway what he believes, and would sooner blow off a cocky, overbearing character than he would be willing to bend to their whim. He does not make any attempts to control others, so he expects the same thing in return, and does not approve of, listen to, nor tolerate (to the point of actually fighting) anyone with a desire to demean, disrespect, or otherwise use other individuals against their will. He will commonly step in during pack disputes if one member is being too commanding of another, standing up for those who need protection, and is notoriously defensive of females, pups and the elderly to the point of sheer selflessness.
Though this sounds like the ideal male for any pack, it’s unfortunate that such steadfast passiveness comes with a hefty lack of humor and an overall very serious, very boring demeanor. It is said that Calder doesn’t even know what play is. To him, a nap is his “play time”. He rarely even sleeps for longs periods outside of said naps, often too busy keeping a watchful eye on things throughout the night… which, as you can imagine, makes him highly uninteresting to younger, more energetic characters.
EYES
An almost shocking shade of cobalt blue, light like the sky but deep as the earth.
WINGS

HISTORY
Calder’s history is a long and tiring one that is largely unknown by anyone outside of his own consciousness due to his mysterious nature. Some say he was born the prince of a massive pack in a land to the north, set to inherit all of his father’s territory, power, and respect but a massive storm whisked him away while he was still young. Others claim that he was a warrior in a pack far away and was here on a recon mission but was left behind due to his passive behavior. Even more claim that he does not age and was living in these lands for all time.
But these are rumors and nothing more.
Calder is no more or less than your average five year old wolf. His puppyhood was uneventful, his parents were particularly old to be the bearers of pups and were quick to set him straight upon the “old ways” of respect and chivalry. His father in particular loved his mother like the moon and sun love the sky, and was always telling Calder to “mind your mother”, constantly reinforcing respect and love for females and lesser beings. Though Calder did not find himself particularly fond of his parents, he did as he was told until he felt he was old enough to make his own decisions… which, when he was younger, could not come soon enough.
As all pups do, he felt oppressed, controlled by his parents, so the moment he got the chance, he was quick to make a mess of things. The day he turned one year old, some of his packmates took him out for his first hunt and, rather than take it seriously and try his best to play his part in the hunt, Calder merely relished in the feeling of being free. He did nothing that he was told to do, running about, barking, chasing animals wildly as opposed to actively helping with the hunt, sabotaging every attempt at obtaining food and forcing his pack to starve for the night. Needless to say, this did not make him very popular. The alpha of his pack was quick to put his paw down, but, convinced that he was free of all limitations and instruction, a year-old Calder instead chose to ignore his alpha’s instructions and ran away from his pack and his homeland. He felt like he could conquer the world if he was simply allowed to do things his way, so, selfishly, he took off, without a word of warning or a look back behind him.
He spent the following month or so, just trying to live and conquer the world the way he always dreamed he would. But “conquering the world”, as he used to put it back then, is ten times easier when you can hunt and feed yourself. So, almost immediately faced with death and ultimately defeat, Calder sucked in his pride and sought out a different way of achieving his goals. He attempted to teach himself to hunt, but that ended in numerous failures. He spent some time scavenging off of other animals and off of, though he’s ashamed to admit it, humans. But he knew that a life of theft was no way to truly live. However, he did, eventually, have the fortune of crossing paths with a young female named Litonka who, captivated by his foolishness more than his appearance, allowed him to join her and her small band of wolves. They were normal wolves, not of a fantasy variety like Calder was, so when it was discovered that he had powers, he was revered to a higher degree than he was before. Not worshipped but… he was most certainly of value to them at that point. Though normal wolves themselves, Litonka and the others in her group were all relatives of fantasy wolves, with extensive knowledge and interest in the magic Calder held within him. They managed to teach him, if slightly haphazardly, what they could about his powers and what he could do with them, as well as teaching him how to hunt and care for himself. All of this in return for acting as their protector and guardian… and ultimately, as Litonka’s loving male companion. The two never mated, so Calder never called her his “mate” but they had plans to do so one spring maybe a year or so ago.
But Litonka met with an unfortunate end that Calder refuses to speak of. It is suggested that he left the band of wolves that day and never returned to them, leaving them nothing but the body of his beloved.
He speaks little of this or any of the events of his past, slightly ashamed that he abandoned his family, even more ashamed of other things. So his past is largely unknown, from the perspective of other wolves. Even those who ask rarely get much of an answer.
