Synopsis Of Thread: The death of Alphess Chevara rings through the lands as loners Ivy and Allorah enter the Marshlands. Due to the heavy weather they are stuck together under a tree, and cooperate into finding a small meal of rabbits for the pair of them. |
Small, delicate brown paws tread this small patch of trees and underbrush. Wildflowers of all colors and shapes grew here, speckling the lush greenery with blinding yellow, red, purple and blue- to name a few of the vibrant colors. The normally pretty brown coat of the she-wolf seemed dull and ugly compared to the flowers, but her eyes sparkled with such life that the brave, small wolf seemed to fit right in. She gingerly took a small plant in her mouth, snapping it from it's roots, and set it at her paws. She reached up into the air, rearing on her hind legs to snap a large leaf from the tree. She dropped to the ground with only a slight crackle in the leaves. Placing the flower onto the leaf, she softly mushed the leaves into a pulp, licking the leaf so that she could mix it into a nice salve. She took pride in her work, she truly did. Staring at the yellow paste with kindness she dipped her head to thank the earth for providing her with this wonderful patch of herbs and such. She would have made more- she knew how useful the mixtures would be for those she met. Although she could heal them, she knew that some wounds took time to heal even with her gift. This would surely help them if she met someone who was seriously hurt. She collected some small berries from a bush and some cobwebs, and smiled. That would do. She nudged the leaf into a small package, and scratched off some of the bark from a tree until she could gather some oozing, sticky blood from it. She batted at it with her paw and limped to the leaf, and slipped the syrup onto the leaf and curled the other half onto patch of sticky goo. She smiled at the small package, and sat down next to it. She could rest for now. She wanted to join a pack soon. She hoped to bring them her gift, presenting herself and her powers with utter respect. She would try to prove herself worthy despite her size. She knew the lands well now, and she was proud to say she knew each of the many packs. She had no opinion on who's pack to attempt to join, and decided that whoever found her first would get the chance. She knew some wolf had been searching the pack lands for wolves to join their pack. Surely whoever they were would find her eventually. Although, she wasn't in a rush. She liked being a loner, it was easy and she was used to it now. Staring boredly at the sky as the sun shone boldly, she noticed the grey clouds rolling it. It might rain soon, and from the crackle in the distance, she was sure it would be a fierce storm. Picking up her small package, she surveyed the surrounding area. If there was any shelter within a moments trot, she couldn't see it. Her tree spot was probably the safest place for a while around, most of the no pack lands was plains, after all. She moved over to the maple tree she had torn up, and settled down next to it. Perhaps others would come here in search of shelter. She would love company. She really would...

A howl echoes across the lands, shrill and pained... sounding almost forced.
Die, foul creature. No longer will you live as I use the last of my life energy to take you out and rid you from the packlands to harm no others again. With this dying howl, I sentence you to death! With this howl, I condemn myself to death.
It was unmistakable... Chevara, Alphess of the Marshlands, had fought her last fight... had taken her last thrill. Chevara was dead... or soon to be, and her howl told the story of her final battle. What was she fighting? Was it the creature that attacked the lands? Or something else? The creature hadn't been seen for some time, but that didn't mean it wasn't around.
What did Chevara give her life for? No one would know but it would be a thought on every wolf's mind.... especially the Alpha's.
The lands of Aelyn seemed cursed.. two deaths... unexplained disappearances... what was to happen next? Thoughts and speculations arise as tides turn and thoughts become provoked.
What was to happen next?

Ivy's brown ears pricked, and her pelt prickled with worry. She looked to the packlands that belonged Chevara. It was so far from her, that even if she raced as fast as she could, she could not make it in time to save the wolf. She was probably dead already. She dipped her head, sending out a small prayer to the Alpha who would never have a chance to have this female in her pack. Perhaps she would go to the Marshlands to give them her aid for a while. Surely they would need help, with their alpha missing.
But not now. She would travel by next sunrise, surely if she left now she would only be caught in the rain. Saddened by the howl, she raised her head and howled to the wolf who she had never met before, grieving for the loss in the Marshlands. She showed only respect for the Alpha's of this land, and her howl, though soft and only heard by those listening, hung only to send luck to the Alpha's spirit.
She let the wordless, grieving howl slowly fade, and she let her head hang as the rain started to sprinkle down on the air. Yes... Good luck to her pack and her spirit. I must see to it that they are well tomorrow.

Allorah was trotting in Kumori Plains. The sky was starting to get dark, and it was getting chilly.. These were the times she'd love to have a pack that she could keep warm with other wolves. However, Allorah still needed to check out all of the territories so she could find the pack that was perfect for her. It would take a long time, but it would be worth it.
She stopped in her tracks when she saw another wolf taking cover under a tree. It was brown, and stood out among the wildflowers. Great, another loner. Hopefully this loner isn't hostile.. We'll have to see how she acts to me.. She seems quiet, but just because she's quiet doesn't mean she'll be friendly to me. A chilling howl echoed through the storm. For a few moments, the only sound to be heard was the winds blowing toward Allorah. The other wolf let out a long howl that hung in the air for a while, and slowly faded away. Rain drops began to fall on Allorah's fur. The whole sky was now dark with clouds. Allorah lay down, and put her head between her white paws.

For a long moment, the young Ivy did not move, did not speak. She caught the scent of another wolf, but when she did not approach her, and instead took to staying a bit away, she did not move either. She watched as the rainfall came, bring wetness to the earth and speckling the other wolf with the sky’s tears. She smiled sadly and wagged her tail, standing up from her dry spot. She looked across the land until her green eyes landed on a wolf. She was grey, white, brown and creamy, looking very normal for a wolf. Which actually seemed unusual. But she dipped her head low as she moved to the other she-wolf.
“Excuse me,” she called softly. “Surely you don’t want to get soaked, do you? Please, there’s room for more than a single wolf under that tree right there.” Her green eyes closed and opened, and she lowered her head more as she stopped close to the other wolf. Her nose was getting pelted with rain, and her coat was slowly getting quite, quite wet. It was that kind of downpour that normally would have come and gone fast, but the wind seemed to have stopped for a moment, as if plopping it down on the two wolves.

Allorah was about to jump up and threaten the wolf to stay secure, but would it really be necessary? The wolf didn't look hostile. But.. still.. I can always fight back, but.. Allorah was pretty indecisive at the moment.
I guess I can trust her.. but I'll be watching, of course. If she does anything funny.. Allorah looked at her. "Thank you. I would love to try to stay dry during this storm. I have a feeling it will only rain harder." Allorah dipped her head with thanks, and padded under a the tree that the brown wolf must have been talking about. She kept plenty of room for the other wolf. After all, she was the one who was nice enough to share a spot with me. A few drops still fell on Allorah's pelt. It was no longer as bad as it was when she was not under the tree, however. Allorah felt cold, and for a moment she wished she could control the weather, and turn this cold day into a clear, sunny day. However, she'd have to deal with this storm, and another wolf.
Allorah eyed the wolf, still tense, ready to spring at any aggressive movement from the wolf.

The brown fae trotted back to her spot next to the small bundle of leaves, her tail low as it brushed the ground. She sat down, keeping her head low and her ears up in an nonthreatening was. Her green eyes were bright, and she let a grin cross her small, delicate features. Her tail moved back and forth in a soft wag.
"It's a pretty nasty storm. I haven't seen a storm this bad in a while," she commented in a hushed tone, tilting her head to the side as she watched the grass being pushed down under the downpour. "My name is Ivy. Maybe once the storm lets up, we could go on a hunt together? Some nice warm food would be great for a wet pelt," she suggested shortly, blinking once and flicking her ear as a thunder clap sounded not too far off.

Allorah smiled, and relaxed. She was still alert, however. "Hello Ivy.. my name is Allorah." She said quietly. "What are the herbs and leaves there for?" Allorah asked Ivy, staring at them with her blue eyes. The leaves were dry, proving this tree was good shelter. She blinked, and slowly made her way to lay down. Then she put her head on her paws, and watched the lightning, and listened to the rolls of distant thunder. "A hunting trip would be great. I've only eaten small prey and carrion for almost my whole time here.. I'd love some fresh meat.." Allorah sighed, eyes staring up at Ivy. A flash of lightning lit up the sky, shortly followed by very loud thunder. "It's unlikely the storm will let up soon. I think it's coming straight our way, and this storm's only going to get worse." Allorah again, sighed.

The young brown wolf nodded shortly. "Just for some minor wounds, infections, stuff like that. I was planning on..." She trailed off, letting her thoughts float around for a moment. A wolf who had noticed the actual purpose of a bundle of leaves as herbs. She actually was very observant. She knew very well the storm was only getting worse, and probably wasn't going to do anything but crash down around them for a long time... And the other grey wolf fae had also figured this out. It was actually quite nice to have someone who was just as bright and observant as her.
It was also quite nice to have a wolf that agreed with her. Warm food- no wolf could deny that of course, but a new, strange wolf just prancing up and saying 'maybe we should hunt' normally didn't take off this well. She wagged her tail more, and sat down.
"Yes, unfortunately the weather isn't our friend today," she said in a soft voice, dipping her head as she turned her eyes to look over the land again. "But it can't be bad forever, right? And when the sky does change, we shall have a wonderful hunt I'm sure."

"Healing?" Allorah said, casting her gaze back over at the leaves. "I know a few things about herbs. Not a ton, but I still know a few things." Allorah twitched her fur in a attempt to get some water off her fur without standing up. "I hope the sun will come back out. I can't stand rain.. What I hate the most about rain is when there's downpours and thunder storms like this. However, I find that if you can manage to ignore the rain and thunder, it can be a good hunting technique for some prey that didn't take cover. You can get very close to the prey, as they can only hear the thunder, and can't smell much over the rain, and then you can kill them. But I enjoy hunting in sunny weather, rather than the cold rain." Lightning flashed again, this time closely followed by thunder.
"Now the storm's very close.. Maybe if it gets windy the wind will blow it away quickly."

"Let's just hope lightning doesn't hit this tree," Ivy whispered under her breath. It would be a horrible thing if their only shelter burst into flames. One of them could get hurt, if not them both. She hoped the wind would blow the storm away, but then again she didn't want to send this nasty weather somewhere else where it could do just as much damage for other wolves.
She was glad to have a companion now, they gotten along smoothly so far, and that was all that mattered. Maybe together they could go out in search for a pack. She wondered distantly if this loner wanted to join a pack, or enjoyed being a loner. Perhaps... Perhaps this wolf didn't mind either way. The female didn't know what to say, didn't know what would be best to stay at a moment like this. She was starting to like the silence anyway. She remembered that her brother would hate getting wet. He hated water. She smiled.
She jumped as light flashed through her vision- her pelt stood on end and the thunder was deafening as lightening smashed down only a good hundred wolves away. She shivered, and growled loudly, "This is too bad of a storm for my liking..."

"I hate storms.." Allorah sighed. There wasn't much to do when there was a storm going on. The wind was whipping in Allorah's direction. The wind was never her friend. She was getting cold from the mix between the rain and the wind. Even more so, rain was starting to pour under the tree. Allorah shivered in the cold. "I can't imagine how horrible it must be out there in the open." Allorah looked up, and lightning blinded her vision.
"That was very close.. soon the storm will be right above us." She said, loud enough to be heard over the pelting rain, wind, and thunder. "This storm better stop soon.." Allorah growled under her breath. "I hope once it gets here, it won't spend too long before blowing our to the ocean..." She muttered.

"Yes..." The brown wolf dipped her head, pawing her herbs under her so they would be sheltered better, now that the storm was blowing and the rain was soaking both of them even under their tree. She sighed, shivering. It was so... strange. Never before had she been in a storm this horrible. It... was kind of depressing.

A large bolt of lightning flashed. Allorah quickly, and sharply, whimpered as it hit a tree only a few wolf lengths away. The tree did not catch on fire, but rather it remained standing. "Hopefully this storm will blow over.." Allorah whispered to herself. The wind blew faster, unforgiving, soaking the two wolves under the trees. Allorah shivered, hoping the storm would go by faster. She was very nervous that a lightning bolt would strike this tree, not only ruining their shelter, but also, the tree may fall on her.. or worse..
Allorah stood up and shook herself off, trying to get most of the water off of her very thick coat. She grunted, very badly wanting to do something. Allorah stared at Ivy, making sure that the brown wolf didn't do anything strange. Allorah slowly slid back down, and watched the pouring rain, and Ivy.

Ivy shuttered, her pelt soaked. She made no movement to shake the water from her fur though, as her dry underbelly protected the small herbs under her. She would die before she let her physical blessings get wet. They would get to the Marshlands if she had any say in it. They would need help, she was quiet sure that the fae's pack would need all the help they could get. She lowered her head, her fur dripping as much as the clouds about her. She was quite cold now, but surely it would pass.
Another flash of lightning, and a murmur from her friend. She wished that her tree would have kept them more dry, but the harsh wind made it impossible to hide from, unless they were in a very thick forest or in a cave of some sort... She stared out into nothingness, the rain cutting off her vision after some wolf-lengths. She glanced at her friend, who was eying her- still suspicious, apparently. Ivy looked back down to her paws, letting out a soft sigh.
What had made this wolf so... watchful of others? It was good to be aware, but she seemed so... Hmn... It made the she-wolf sad to see others so guarded, it really did. She felt the rain soften on her pelt, and she glanced back to Allorah. It was going to stop soon. Lighting flashed behind them now, the danger mostly over, and soon enough the rain stopped. She barked softly to get attention from the other wolf, before standing up again.
"Hunt?" She picked up the leafy package, trotting to the base of the tree and digging a small hole quickly, brushing away the drenched grass. She set the herbs at the base of the tree in the damp earth. She smiled softly. She glanced over her shoulder, and grinned brightly, awaiting her companion's answer.

The rain was slowing, and the wind was blowing down. "Yeah.. we should.. I am kind of hungry.." Allorah continued to eye Ivy. "You can go first." Allorah stood up, and stretched, letting her paws slide down on the grass, until her tail was very high in the air. She yawned, revealing rows of sharp teeth. Then Allorah walked back wards, and she was even on all fours again. The sun was almost shining, but the two wolves were still getting hit by a little bit of rain. Allorah shook out her fur. "Hopefully we can pick up some kind of scent of food. I'm so hungry I'd eat really old carrion.."

"That doesn't sound all that good to me," replied Ivy with a flash of a smile as she trotted away from her herbs and shook the water from her pelt. She yawned loud and wide, all her canines showing, along with her purple-pink tongue, and her eyes shut. She closed her mouth with a snap, and then growled in a playful tone and shook her head- as if she had snapped down on a rabbit right their and then.
She opened one eye towards Allorah, and nodded. "Let's try to aim for something a bit tastier, eh?" Her eye sparkled with delight, then she looked away, opening her other eye, and bolted forward, her mouth wide open to help her catch a scent, any scent. Food, prey would be good... She hadn't run like this since yesterday, and it felt good to stretch her paws and push her muscles out.

Allorah was almost startled at the speed Ivy took off at. She quickly ran after her, kicking up some cold mud behind her.
The flowers and tall grass were wet, and at the occasional bare spot, the ground was filled with mud. Allorah's white paws quickly turned the color brown, and little bits of mud splashed on her pelt, making her filthy. Allorah ignored it, and caught up with Ivy. I love the weather after it rains.. Allorah thought, the drizzle of rain washing off some of the mud. However, once her pelt seemed to be clean, Allorah's front paws kicked mud right back on her.
Soon she caught up to Ivy. She was panting, but she still had energy left. "I love the weather.." She panted. "After a downpour.." She told Ivy between pants.
The sun was coming out of the storm clouds more and more. Which was great, besides the fact that the mud would harden on Allorah's fur, and she'd have to wash herself off, and deal with being soaked for a white.

”It means that change is coming,” Ivy mused in a happy tone, her tail wagging. ”What do you think we can get to eat around here… I doubt we can take down a herd of anything alone… But I really wish I could-“ She was cut off by a blaze of preyscent, and skidded to a stop, his eyes blazing around. A rabbit wasn’t far off, sniffing curiously- probably just out of it’s den.
Ivy bolted forward- but she already knew she would be too late- the rabbit had already noticed them… Allorah would get it easily before her. She branched off to the left, barking a short warning to the other wolf so she would know that the rabbit would try to bolt right to avoid them.

Allorah's attention snapped to the rabbit. She ran as fast as she could before the rabbit, getting down low enough that the rabbit couldn't go under her, but just high enough for her to get up quick enough to try to block it off again. The rabbit was light gray, almost like the color of Allorah's back with the sun shining on it. The rabbit managed to veer to the left, trying to get away. As long as this rabbit stays in my sight, it won't be going anywhere besides my stomach! Allorah vowed. Though really, she wasn't sure she could catch it. The rabbit had speed, and there was no longer an element of surprise to catch the rabbit with. Hopefully this rabbit is worth all the energy I'm putting into it... Allorah sighed under her breath. She dashed to the side as fast as she could, hoping she could confuse the rabbit enough to bounce it back to Ivy. If it went straight into one of their jaws, and Allorah would enjoy the second small meal of the day.
